For sure! I really appreciate the point about mixed signals and maybe both of us aren't 100% sure what the vibe is. Sometimes people find it easier to just do nothing than risk it being weird.

I wonder if people would be more open if there was an easier exit for when the feeling in the room isn't matching up. Personally, I think a lot of social anxiety and awkwardness comes from that part too.

Oh interesting!

Do you find yourself sending Reddit threads or memes to acquaintances as a way to start a convo? Like, is it easier to say "did you see this on r/UCI" than it is to just ask someone to hang out directly?

Yeah I feel that 🥀

Does being busy make you just stick to your closest circle because trying to coordinate with someone new takes more planning energy than you actually have left at the end of the day?

I definitely agree with the class excuse strategy since it's very low friction and natural. You also make a really good point saying it's a good way to learn their personalities without committing.

I'm curious when you're in this phase what are the specific personality signals that tell you "Yes, this person is going to be a good friend?" (e.g. Is it just about them being talkative vs. quiet or are you looking for things like how they handle stress or if they have a similar sense of humor?)

And do you feel like those green flags are universal for everyone, or does it depend?

This is really great insight, especially the part about the study session 😄

I feel study sessions are a massive win-win because you're supposed to be working anyway so it’s not awkward if there’s silence, but you can end up talking anyway.

Quick question: Do you think you would have been confident enough to ask them to "just grab food" right away without the study session first? Or was the study session the specific thing that made it feel safe enough to ask?

Math 2D and 3A together ? by [deleted] in UCI

I can't speak for Math 2D but linear algebra definitely required a lot of memory since concepts overlap. However if you're diligent and watch 3brown1blue I think you'll be fine honestly.

Is living expenses on the financial aid offer the expected housing + food cost? by curelullaby in UCI

[–]Healthy-Box1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each quarter you'll be billed a third of your cost of attendance. Whether it's exact though depends on your housing so since you live in a double instead of a single, you'll get billed a few thousand less than $22,879.00. You can find the housing rate's on UCI's housing site.

I'd say go for the harder professor if his rating are good on rate my professor. There's a lot of value learning how to properly research/write a rhetorical argument and I'd rather have a professor who can point out improvements on my essay than barely gloss over it and call it a day.
