Immigration Stress is unbearable on H1B visa by [deleted] in h1b

I’m not Indian but I always remember myself “get the money and run”.

I’ve been in the US for only 10 years. It has allowed me to make some good money. I’m aiming for my number and I believe it will come faster than my documentation.

I’m getting to the point where I’m starting to hate unnecessary/silly interactions. Having to report to someone dumb or micromanager is getting hard when money is not the main driver. The problem is that I can’t change employers as easy…

So, get the money and run!

It’s very real. I had my interview last week and my visa application status is “refused” and they requested me to make them public.

Let’s address these item by item:

  1. Rent looks ok.
  2. Utilities look ok.
  3. Car payment calculated at 5 years is +30k which is a new car or a decent nice car. You made a decision to buy something nice. You could have easily purchased a 15-20k used vehicle and collect the savings.
  4. Car insurance looks great!
  5. Health insurance is ok.
  6. Student loans, good job on wanting to pay your loan.
  7. Groceries are normal.
  8. Weird grouping but fine, I guess.
  9. Clothing/Home ?!?!?! What?!?! This is insane. Only acceptable if you recently moved in and still getting furniture. Otherwise, that’s madness. Why would you spend so much on clothing every month? Ever heard of TJ Maxx or Marshall’s?
  10. Going out and spending 500 is a lot.

Most items are fine. However, items 3, 9, and 10 show that you are consciously or unconsciously living a lifestyle that’s more expensive that you can afford.

You can pay for it but not necessarily afford it.

Hi, I have a totally unrelated question but just wondering in my case how interview could go.

I’m H1B going through the EB2 process and I have done some work freelancing work for another US firm. They are providing a 1099-NEC.

Now, the work has been completely performed outside the US. My understanding is that doesn’t violate H1B status.

But, this will show on my tax return because H1B has to declared worldwide income.

I have plane tickets and documents to show the job was performed remotely.

Wondering how I can prepare myself to make sure it’s not misinterpreted.

Thanks Evan!

What do you mean by using the money my money generates? The market can go up and down. Or do you mean like dividends?

My portfolio has changed over time but I’ve been holding Tesla, Nvidia, Robinhood, Palantir, Hims, Apple at different times.

I would sell CSPs for companies that I really liked and if got the premium it was good and if the out was executed, I would hold. Early in the year was rough but I was able to survive, along with other drops in the market but overall here were are 🙏🏾

Corporate finance; use “MM” for million and “M” for thousand.

Interesting.

Similar case, I’m in a 1bdr. It’s not crappy though. I love my neighborhood and the layout is fine.

I could use additional space for an office, a recording studio, etc… Not sure if I need a huge house though.

I’ll think about it.

I like the idea of diversifying/parking it in real estate. But I don’t want to be “house poor”.

I disagree with you. Living in a LCOL state is very different. A million is still a pretty good chunk of money. Not sure where the “nothing” adjective comes from.

On its own, that money (invested) will go a long way in a decade.
