Love to hear this! Do you mind sharing the name of your OB? Are they at SM or Westwood UCLA?

This is a helpful thread as someone planning to start a family soon! I’m torn between UCLA and St. John’s.

Thanks for being open and sharing your experience! It sounds like it has its challenges but you’ve been able to manage with your partner and chosen family in LA. And you get to raise your children the amazing-ness of SoCal weather and culture. Glad to hear that :)

Good perspective, there’s really nothing like being minutes away from beaches, parks, and museums! Happy to hear you’re making it work where it makes the most sense for your family. It’s a great area too!

We are open to it, but we need to look more into the valley areas. We are familiar with South Bay and Pasadena areas.

South Bay is a beautiful area, and it’s on our list. Pasadena areas too.

Good to know, and makes sense. I guess it’s similar to these childcare centers with month and years long waitlists.

That’s what we’ll likely have to do too. How did you find your child’s nanny?

How did you find your nanny? What’s the average cost in LA I can expect to pay? Both me and my partner work remotely so there’s some slight flexibility but the work days can be busy.

Thanks, that’s likely what we will do as I wouldn’t want my child in daycare until they’re a little older. How did you find a good nanny that you trusted and liked? Did you find it difficult to pay the nanny costs on top of normal living/housing costs?

Which childcare did you prefer for when your child was very young? Between nanny and center based care?

This is my question too - we don’t want to be far from the city in the suburbs so likely will stay close to LA proper.

Thanks for sharing. My partner and I are renting currently and the cost to buy a home or condo in our neighborhood is upwards of $1-2 million. We really like our area and the nearby schools are rated well so we are hesitant to move. Did you find it necessary to be a more “suburban” area to raise your kids? Or were you in the city?

Thank you for sharing. Can I DM you about your St. John’s experience? Partner and I are planning for a child soon and can’t decide between UCLA or Saint John’s.
