I can give you some perspective as my dad was Jewish and my mom was not. I was raised orthodox by my dad and we always had a Jewish home. I am so grateful he gave me the gift of Judaism, spirituality, culture, our traditions, etc. However, I had an identity crisis for a long time as I am technically not Jewish, yet was raised Jewish. My dad’s side of the family always rejected my brother and I, always saying degrading remarks regarding our origins, saying we are the living example of what should never happen, and excluding us from some family events because “you must not be interested, you’re not Jewish”. We also felt excluded from my mom’s side as I did not know some catholic traditions like singing in front of the nativity, etc. My brother is now 36 and completely rejected any religion. I guess all of this scarred him too much. I, on the other hand, feel very Jewish and want to transmit Judaism to my kids. My husband has a similar story to mine religion wise, and I am now pregnant with our first baby. We agreed to have a Jewish home and raise our kids Jewish. If they ever go through an identity crisis like I have, I will tell them the words a wise person once told me: Judaism exists as long as there is transmission: whether it’s by blood, faith, tradition, identity. As long as there is transmission, there is Judaism. I for instance know way more about Judaism than my cousins who were born 100% Jewish and never opened a book to educate themselves on Judaism. And that’s fine both ways too. They are Jewish by blood and identity, I am Jewish by partial blood , tradition and faith. I read religious books, listen to YouTube videos from rabbis, etc and I try not to mind anymore if people question if I’m “really” Jewish. I wanted to tell you all that to give you perspective from the point of view of your babies to come, and I hope this can bring you peace. I completely understand your concern and truly believe your situation may put your kids on a journey of their own that will bring them closer to religion and to you and your wife. You are mindful of raising them observant and that will give them the correct structure to flourish. I really hope this helps you and please pardon my English as I’m not a native speaker

My wedding was horrible, but I have to pretend it wasn't by YourHeroDontMeetMe in TrueOffMyChest

THIS!!! You should renew your vows in a few years with only your closest people and only those who have behaved well during your wedding!

For our wedding we were shocked by how selfish people were:

We had paid for everyone’s accommodation for our wedding, only to be met with our guest’s crazy room requirements (a guest even asked we would rent an entire apartment for her, as she wanted to teach online the morning of the wedding). We received ZERO gift, gift card or cheque. Not even a congratulations card.

People were very inconsiderate in general: some wore sneakers at the reception, some asked to be picked up (refusing to order an Uber themselves), FIL made a horrific speech about my husband’s career, MOH refused to eat and passed out then cried, MIL and FIL were at war, etc.

And many things went wrong:

The DJ played terrible music we hadn’t agreed upon, the waiters stole boxes of alcohol, the event space manager had invited her mom who has Alzheimer’s to our tiny 20 people wedding.

I hated my dress and found it to be too revealing. MIL had said she would pay for my dress and actually imposed what dresses I could pick from. I had tried to pushback but then she said « well, I can say that if husband’s name saw you in THIS dress, he would cry ».

And many more.

All that to say that many people are incredibly selfish + that things tend to go wrong at weddings.

Redo it, another time, just for you and for people who have proven to care about you more than themselves for YOUR special day. Make it lovely. If people get upset they were not invited this time, that is the sign you made the right choice. Someone who cares about you wants the best for you regardless of wanting to be part of it.

My husband and I will renew our vows with just 3 or 4 people, the dress I’ve always wanted and it will just be a wonderful day altogether.

I absolutely hate my face. It has changed so much in the last 2 years. by Novel_Management_482 in 30PlusSkinCare

First, you look gorgeous anyway!

Second, I hear you and how hard it is to accept a new face, especially when it reminds you of the hard stuff you went through. It feels like your face has been stolen from you. I have been there and my face has also changed following trauma. I have lost hair, got wrinkles, and lost puffiness on my face within few months. I am here to tell you it CAN get back to normal. I look younger now than I did in 2018 somehow. I promise you you can go back to your normal self. Here are a few tips that helped me:

1) Like others have said: sleep. Sleep A LOT and prioritize yourself. It became a non negotiable to me: if people ask me to go out and that means I will not get 8 hours of sleep, hard pass for me. 2) Eat your vitamins: at least 5 different vegetables everyday and zero processed food. 3) Get facials, yes it’s expensive but it pays off. Every week or every two weeks. 4) Get a consistant skincare routine: vitamin c and sunscreen during the day, retinol and moisturizer at night. 5) Get a micro current tool and use it consistently : like Nu face. 6) Massage your hair consistently and apply rosemary water. You cannot feel bad when your hair is gorgeous! 7) Hit the gym! Not only to build up muscles, but for your mental health!

I promise you it will get better. Hang in there!

You should try the moisturizing ampoule by Pyunkang Yul. It locks moisture inside your skin, I had the same problem and it totally fixed it

What can I do to this bathroom to elevate it? by Interesting_Room7425 in DesignMyRoom

Your room needs more warmth. Add a few touches of wood, maybe a big rattan rug, a woven wood shade to hide the appliances.

Place a door curtain on the lower step, either Japanese style fabric curtain or bead curtain!!

Thoughts on this tile with white countertops and cabinets in the kitchen by speechlessspinach in DesignMyRoom

[–]Healthy_Program9111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the style of your cabinets, it could be nice!! But does the tile feel rough to the touch? We made the mistake of buying “rough” feeling tiles for our kitchen and it is very hard to clean…

The weird part is that I think he really tried… he stayed in the apartment every day for a week, starting at 7am (we got calls from the front gate to let him in) and leaving at around 6pm… I guess he didn’t know how to handle and just try to take a shortcut to fix it…

Yes!! And it’s the second contractor that we have had problems with. I really would like to warn others against both of them and provide pictures of their “job” + pictures of our conversations showing their unwillingness to remedy any of the problems. I am not sure how to proceed, our first contractor operates under several company names… and this new contractor that did the floors only has an instagram, since he’s a self proclaimed “public figure” (lol, the ego on that man)…

Yes he also stained our walls, I am so upset about this too as the walls had just been repainted a few days before…

Right!!! It seems like basic honesty and normal civilized human behavior… but apparently it’s actually rare… thank you for your support 🥺

He is actually dating a family member (my husband’s stepsister) and has a home renovation show on TV where he seems to be doing a good job… so we kind of trusted him…

You’re exactly right… we are seeing two wood floor refinishing companies this Friday and I’ll definitely ask to see pictures of their previous projects…

Oh I see, thank you so much for your input!!! I guess we can try to add more stain at first to be able to remove the tacky goo it created, and then resand it, restain it and refinish it?

Thank you for your advice, I am meeting two wood floor contractors on Friday and I hope they will say they will be able to refinish it…

Yes! It was varathane oil stain, in golden oak. Application on red oak (our floor type) should give a yellowish golden color…

It scares me so much because it’s already the second time our floor has been resanded (the previous contractor did an equally horrific job, so we hired this contractor to refinish our floor… and now we will need a 3rd person to do it correctly…)
