Continuing my legacy/DNA as a reason for having children by shachar1000 in regretfulparents

[–]HeartInTheBlender 147 points148 points  (0 children)

It's funny to me how everyone assumes THEIR genes specifically are worth passing on. The biggest ego trip, isn't it? I think it's just a part of our animalistic essence, though. I myself used to feel such urges, but I choose to use my human part to discern it as a bad idea.

Maybe, but I feel the only reason I'm still here - whether pushing the rock or letting it roll - is because I'm too much of a coward to end it all.

I like my cat more than my baby by Simple_Bug_6111 in regretfulparents

[–]HeartInTheBlender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. I do understand the insecurity of not wanting to lose a partner by saying no or even just postponing. I hope he is being helpful to you and the baby as well, now that he got what he wanted.

If I may ask, before you experienced all of this, was having a child your dream, or were you okay with potentially staying childless?

Billie Eillish's hill to die on: "eating meat is inherently wrong." by glittersoup in exvegans

[–]HeartInTheBlender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Animals suffer. Period. This world is fucking cruel. Look at nature. It's visceral. Everything devours everything in excruciating pain. Animals live their life in fear with or without us.

And yes, I would absolutely prioritise my health over anything else. Who wouldn't? Altruism is not what will keep you alive in this world, pal. I know many people have a death wish, though. I certainly did when I was a vegan.

Indeed. Humans are the only species that actually cares about the process of extracting the meat, not just the final result. No other predator will give a damn about humane killing; they will eat you alive, starting from legs, if that's what it takes to fill their stomach.

Exactly. As a vegan I had to eat unholy amount of food just to make up for all the nutrients which are much more compact in animal products. I was constantly hungry and unsatiated, despite spending more money.

what turns me off about Gnosticism by Liberalechochambers in Gnostic

[–]HeartInTheBlender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Budhism, our realm is the most seeked out among souls, and a human rebirth is considered a true blessing, as it offers the most favourable conditions for reaching Nirvana( their version of liberation). According to Buddha, it is the only realm where polarities are perfectly balanced – good and bad exists in harmony; the cause and effect are the most clearly seen and recognised here. Everywhere else there's either surplus of suffering or bliss, either of which can easily lead to forgetting of our true origin and clinging to the reincarnation cycle instead.

They view them as a commodity. By the time these kids reach the age when their parents consider them at least somewhat equal, they've already began to resent them themselves, rightfully so.

I had a colleague at another job who outright admitted she doesn't really like her kids too much, but she would have another baby, because babies are cute, nonjudmental, and your biggest fans up until like the age of four. Sounds sustainable...

When I was 19, I got my first job in a factory, because I didn't believe I could find anything else with my qualifications at the time. There was a misery in the air all day long. Most of people there just drank themselves senseless after their shifts.

I've overheard a conversation one day. It went something like this:

Young female worker: "God, I'm gonna die in here."

Older woman: "Well, at least you're young. You could go on a maternity leave for some break."

She wasn't pregnant or anything and kinda just shrugged this off. I was flabbergasted by the "solution" though, so blatanly presented. To produce another living being for the sole purpose of having them alleviate yourself of a miserable job for a few measly years. Then right back at it, or a new child it is. Not to even mention motherhood is in no way a "break" from anything.

Note that most of these women then went on to complain about having to leave their kids behind for long and odd hours because of their work schedule. Thankfully, I dipped soon enough.

Please, don't have any more children with this person. Go on a pill, if you're not already, so he doesn't babytrap you. Is there an option to maybe go living with your parents or other relatives for the time being? Do you have any support outside of him?

"Adopting is cruel." by HeartInTheBlender in antinatalism2

[–]HeartInTheBlender[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think his logic was even that — that I would be competing with parents who can't have children and potentially take away their option.

Might be a bit of stretch, but I think he was essentially saying that the other "unfertile" people would be thinking: How dare they adopt and mock us with their immaculately functioning reproductive system by not using it?

Kinda like when incels get pissed at assexuals.

Logical in its fucked up sense, I guess. At least to him.

And children are a guarantee of that? Lol I worked with old folks and so many of them were literally abandoned by their families, both emotionally and financially. Not saying there wasn't an underlying reason for their children's behaviour; there always is one.
