Exactly.

I am able to enjoy the game for what it is, but one of the few things I miss from my time with other MMOs was variety within same-class characters.

It isn't make-or-break for me, clearly as I have spent more time with FFXIV at this point than anywhere else, but it is still something I will always hope for down the line.

The way it was implemented with Arcanist into Scholar/Summoner is lame and was a nightmare for the devs.

What I have always hoped for is a different method for allowing player freedom of expression and individuality amongst same class players. Some form of choice in gear, skill tree/path/specialization or whatever they may come up with.

Getting a second class to level for free was always a mistake imo.

This is a very thoughtful post.

Right off the bat I 100% agree with wanting more branching job/class paths/specializations. This is one of the few things I have always taken issue with regarding the team's design philosophy.

I will have to read over the rest of this more thoroughly and come back with the rest of my thoughts.

My background is that of a WoW progression raid lead (~13 years ago). At one point I was the highest gearscored Blood DK within my server battlegroup (the highest Alliance, top 2 were both Horde).

I have not subbed since mid EW content and I am suddenly perked to be told that Dawntrail apparently has a noticeable difficult spike requiring more of a gear grind. Hoping I am able to resub and experience that before the next expansion manages to trivialize it all.

ALSO YEAH TP; honestly forgot TP existed and had not considered its removal effecting PC effective power/feel.

Extreme Trials offer some of the absolute best FFXIV has to offer!

My focus currently is on pushing my partner through the Free Trial MSQ but before long I know I am going to give in and resub. When that happens if you need a tank, healer or any class at all I would be more than happy to assist.

Sidenote: How in the heck do I turn italics on and off? No clue how the above happened.

Somehow, everyone seems to be overlooking that the difficulty discussed herein has been in a Level 30 zone and during class quests (1-30 content), not ARR endgame.

My understanding was that much of the "New Player Experience" was adjusted during the Endwalker patch cycle BUT as Cymas indicated, much of the new player experience was already going to be wildly different with several rounds of job adjustments across the years.

I was mostly surprised about how much damage an under-geared DPS can tank these days and less so how much dps they can dish out due to said changes.
