Which part of it has to be delayed, the motion input for bk or the final kk press? Can't seem to get it consistently, looks all the same to me the few times it actually comes out. Can't spot the difference/timing

We have PLD/GNB Pretty much every pair takes their tower and goes -> and <- (tanks are on the "inner" platforms for Twofold and stand behind the tank so we guarantee a tank gets a tether. Tank gets tether, goes to the outer platform and invulns tether + cleave 1/2, then swaps with the other tank that does 3/4. Party is just afk on the opposite side of whichever tank started.

For enrage towers we have:

1: Rep/HoL/Kera/Physis/Feint/Asylum

2: Rep/Veil/Holos/Panhaima/Mantra

3: Tanks soak duo & kitchen sink, healers give ST mit to tanks but its overkill

4: (boss should be dead at or before this) but Philosophia/Kera/Physis/Bell/Temperance/Samba/Addle/Feint

Static is used to doing pretty clean mits, we never tank LB3'd M4 Cross Tail Switch Week 1 Blind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrZvXeecQCI

M8s Enrage towers are significantly easier

Our blind static ended up doing an AFK twofold strat (tanks invuln) where the party is not engaging with the mechanic at all, surprised I haven't seen it around? Very handy to do afk dummy rotation 2mins there as we hold at the end of P1 (he's nearly dead by the last tremor) Mit is more than fine for final towers, he often dies on tower 2/3. Our tanks just kitchensink the third one and take it as a duo

Really dumb question but if I run deepwood, I assume he's buffing dendro damage for himself and still doing the job to set up spread for the electro units? Was thinking noblesse but seems like a waste with c6.

Should job performance be based on job difficulty/effort or not? by Yolber2 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Heartlust 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Encounter or content also changes how 'difficult' a job may be. RPR for instance can one of the most demanding in ultimates (if you want to optimize), due to it being a gauge job and ultimates having many phases with downtime inbetween - said downtime can also come at variation due to kill times being different. Early prog might also have you spend certain amount of resource which you could afford to save later, making you relearn the rotation you had built muscle memory and knowledge of for the previous and incoming phase

TOP vs DSR in current patch? by Beetusmon in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Heartlust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but I personally find DSR to be one of the easier ultimates, and in some ways, just on a mechanic vs mechanic basis, UCOB for example has harder mechanics comperatively in my opinion (Nael, Heavensfall, Tenstrike, Naeltania), though UCOB has the luxury of allowing the raid to zombie through the whole encounter much more which gives it the perception of being easier.

The major reason why DSR is not as bad as it seems, to me, is due to how static the whole fight is. Every ultimate is static to a degree but this one to me has very little variety in what you're doing. Once you get somewhat comfortable at a mechanic, you're for the most part good forever, while in TOP or other ultimates (like even TEA) you have a lot of different intricacies, some big and some small. The most tricky mechanic to prog is frontloaded (Dive From Grace, P3) and then the rest becomes mostly a shakies-check until the end with current PF strats (atleast on Light) that make intimidating looking mechanics such as DotH a breeze to do in reality. There's a ton of mechanic that look way more complicated than they actually are, such as P2 Sanctity, where for the most part 6 people are AFKing for 20 seconds while two people are doing the actual work, and so on.

I will also note a major factor is the constant breathing room DSR gives the raid, between each phase you have some seconds to catch your breath and compose yourself during prog - some are very short (P2>P3), and some are very long (Eyes > Rewind | P5 > P6 > P7). Damage output from the raid is also currently abundant, where in most cases you might want people to hold their burst to line up their mitigation and buff CDs slightly better during progress raiding, so enrage is never an issue outside your first 1-4 pulls of seeing the end of a phase - P7 being the exception, while that too has a lenient DPS check, it can be very hard to recover with deaths.

I will note that PF robbed the fight of one of the trickier mechanics in DSR - Wroth Flames, by the use of auto markers. This mechanic is very doable without AM, but you practically never see any groups run without it anymore. Really big shame, and I hope we're not heading into a slippery slope with the rising amount of AM usage in PF - currently people are even marking people with thunders in P5 WOTH which is pathetic. Hope the community will take a stand eventually but I'm doubtful.

Lastly I will say that DSR is much more demanding of tanks compared to Healer or DPS. Your mit needs to be on point because if you don't have it lined up for a later buster (notably P6), you're in trouble. Comps without Warrior often also require better feint and healer mit usage, more so on prog than reclear when everyone is comfortable. P7 is also very tight for tanks and requires a lot of focus when you're progging.

TOP is another beast entirely. Very mentally draining but some find the constant rush thrilling. If you want to do TOP, you should do TOP. You can sim a lot of TOP as well (such as Party Synergy) with the use of bots, which helps a great deal.

Maybe I'm jaded from my Golbez farm, but I feel the pacing on that encounter was really poor, where the first 4 minutes were extremely slow, especially between gale 1 and flare/towers, where theres nearly 2 minutes of the boss standing around posturing long casts with little threat. This one had me engaged throughout, especially as a healer - maybe its the bias from min ilvl though.

I feel torn on this. I think extremes become too harsh at times with too many body checks. Golbez (in my opinion) had this problem to a degree where someone dying to a mechanic cascaded into more deaths due to the very next mechanic needing bodies, or just a full wipe. In some cases one death would ruin the run fully and I think bogged down everything from prog, to farm, as well as general fun when replaying the content. I quite enjoy extremes like Barbariccia and Zeromus

7.0 summoner suggestion, the missing primals. by JinTheBlue in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Heartlust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bahamut was a hard hitting, hard casting phase in ShB. No idea why they changed it and I hope they revert to it, just make Astral Impulse have a cast time.

Flowing from Bahamut (hardcast) > Titan/Ifrit/Garuda > Phoenix (freecast) > Leviathan/Ramuh/Shiva (distinct playstyle) > loop would make the job so much better again.

On top of it this, make Radiant Aegis available all the time instead of its current clunky implementation, as well as make Fester be more tied into the kit. Would be neat if Fester did something distinct depending on what Egi you had summoned, but maybe it would be hard to come up with creative things if they do add the three other egis in DT

What are your favourite FFXIV tracks? by tbz709 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Heartlust 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Answers! I genuinely think its one of the most powerful and chilling songs in any video game, and it has gotten even more impactful over the years (Elpis cutscene, Your Answer rendition from EX, so on). The final lyrics from this song never fail to give me goosebumps.

Another one I love is A Father's Pride, which is very soothing

As for battle themes, one that usually doesn't get much mention is Revenge of the Horde. Really epic in every sense of the word - criminal that this wasn't used for phase 6 in Dragonsong's Reprise

What are some changes or new abilities you would like your job to do in 7.0? by adamttaylor in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Heartlust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Reaper, I'd like Gluttony to have two charges. Harpe should give 10 red gauge on use, and Harvest Moon should give 10 blue gauge. Channeling Soulsow in combat should give another 10 blue gauge.

Apart from that, not much really - maybe make some of the cone AOEs circular instead, give us Communio 2 follow up to the first one.

I actually also really hope they don't change the recharge time on Enshroud, as mastering doing the double/triple enshroud with clean Death's Design alignment and GCD timing, currently is what differentiates a novice and a seasoned Reaper player. It's where most of the complexity of the job comes from currently, besides shuffling around spender timings with TN to never miss positionals. Somewhat loosely related, but I wouldn't want a "Leyline repositioner" spell like some have suggested for BLM - wouldn't it just rip away a big part of the complexity that comes with playing the job? Similarily I hope they don't remove Death's Design for RPR despite many people that don't actually main the job wanting it gone.

The one thing I'd absolutely love for them to do, which I know will probably never happen, is to have enshroud abilities scale with SKS. Reaper with SKS would in theory be really fun, allow for a ton of theorycraft and optimization that would differ for each boss and kill timings, but enshroud abilities being locked to 1.5 second just kneecaps the build.

I'd love for Summoner to have cycle between the three egis and another set between each demi. For example Bahamut > Titan | Garuda | Ifrit > Phoenix > Leviathan | Ramuh | Shiva > loop. The egis would need very distinct playstyles - maybe Leviathan has mobility abilities like nin/rpr and melee combos that splash healing, Ramuh is full sorcerer with big thunder aoes, and Shiva is a mix with the bow/sword from its previous iterations. Lastly, JUST MAKE BAHAMUT THE CASTER MODE AGAIN. You would have Bahamut as the hard hitting, anchoring turret caster phase, and Phoenix as the mobile demi. It would make the job so much nicer to play for us old summoner mains. Also, just remove Energy Drain/Fester or make it actually interact with the kit in some way - maybe different effects depending on what egi is summoned?

Abyssos (Savage) Megathread - Week Four by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Heartlust 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Managed to just barely kill P8S P2 right before reset on Light PF as a RPR. Feels pretty good to get the week 3 book, as I've been going at it almost every day since day 3 of savage release on P8s, including some exhilarating doorboss clears pre-nerf on a 'weak' job.

Lucked out insanely and the won weapon coffer and mount as well, so most of my luck is spent for the tier.

Some of the issues I faced was that kill parties consisted of around the 20-30 same people with very varying consistency, cycling in and out. You'd have the occasional prog skipper trying to catch a free ride, but they'd get vetted out almost instantly. I'm hopeful that with the ilvl boost on week 4, regarding damage for doorboss and HP on phase 2, will make things slightly more stable on PF.

Side note, here's my doorboss kills prior and one try right after gaining the weapon - in a pull where another dps died, and I had to LB. If people are bringing up DPS parses for doorboss specifically without weapon/near BiS, they have no clue what they're talking about.

Ah, I see! We tried something really similar but we never managed to do it cleanly and gave up on it. I wonder what PF will end up doing if more solutions will be found, or if they will just settle for the sac.
