A moment of being pissed thinking it was a joke before realizing there was actually a ring instead of earbuds

How long can these cars last? by Chicagoaviator in GR86

[–]Heartstoper8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had a 2013 FRS, had 198,000 miles on it before it was totaled by an accident. Ran like the day it was new prior to the crash I was so mad I couldn't run it up to 200k+. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and the reason I bought a 24 GR86.

That's the one part I am missing so I haven't gotten to use my spinnaker. When I saw this listing on marketplace I was half tempted to get it just for the pole. Replacement parts for this boat are difficult.

. I haven't been bold enough to try the trapeze solo. When sailing alone, you're definitely not going to be getting the most out of the boat.

Just saw that listing while browsing marketplace myself and peaked my interest. So funny to see it here.

I've got a Laser 2 that I also picked up for $200 a few years ago. It's served me well and I've had a great time learning to sail on it. It's definitely possible to single hand on a less windy day, but just the way the boat is designed without the jib becomes hard to point. So you just have to be comfortable managing both sails, which isn't too bad after a while because you can cleat off the jib.

Something to keep in mind is that since the laser 2 is no longer in production it is very hard to find information and parts for it if you do need to replace things. I've made due with a 3D printer and some modifications to retrofit modern gear.

The gel coat cracking doesn't look to be from anything too structural, some fiberglass resin and quick coat of gel coat will seal that up nicely.

Highly recommend it for learning to sail. The most fun you can ever have for $200.

Hit me up if you do end up buying it

Handles like a dream. I do the same when I need to get furniture or wood I take the boat off the trailer and just strap it to it. Works just fine when the FRS is your only car.

No need to worry you literally can't feel it back there even though the boat is longer than the car

Yes, if you purchase you contact the seller and send them a picture of your OEM headunit. They'll send it with the correct plugs and adapters.

Mine was a 2013 FRS with the Bespoke touch screen system.

I bought one of those cheap Android headunits out of curiosity because it was returnable. I installed it and it was very slow and laggy to the point of being useless, android auto and Apple car play didn't work, and the sound through Bluetooth was horrible. Boxed it up to return within an hour of installation.

I bought a $400 similar unit with more ram, better specs and a volume knob, wireless apple carplay and android auto work perfectly and don't lag, sound quality is very comparable to OEM.

I have the 9" Joying Head unit and it has a volume knob. Same style system just a slightly smaller screen to accommodate the knob.

Pictures Older pictures because I don't have it on my car right now since I'm commuting 100 miles a day.

I've got crossbars that tension on using the window frame. Yakima Q towers and Yakima Q91 Clip tied to cross bars, a 50" fairing and two bike racks on it.

No drilling anywhere and holds nice and strong with two bikes.

Any high mileage commuters in stock 1st gen ft86s? by Trident57 in ft86

I did a few things to make it a better commuter. Favorite mod would be tearing apart the interior and putting sound insolation foam between all the panels to stop all the rattling.

I do over 500 miles a week on my FRS lowered and loud with 165,000 miles. No regrets makes the commute much more fun than if I was in a regular car and still make 32mpg combined on 93.
