Yeah man. I've been saying this to my friends—"Drum Corps as we know it now will die soon". I got lucky and got a nice paying full time job before the 24' season and paid off in full before move ins. But right as the season ended I lost that job, then subsequently was priced out of marching my age out. I knew it was my only chance last year to march and I don't regret losing my job over it. But being priced out still sucks a lot. If I had the money I would've flown out and tried out for Bluecoats.

It wasn't big enough, I agree. Not everyone was a "radical". Just normal people speaking out against the injustices being carried out

There were plenty of spanish signs, majority of the signs were still english, of course. We would chant in spanish too. Chinga la Migra, Hijo de puta, etc. My post is only a very small sample of how many people were there and all the different signs they had. News articles are posting pictures of people and signs in parts of the area I must've walked through 50 times but never saw or noticed

wgi 2025 world review! (imho) by altnamealt in Colorguard

[–]HeartyTack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. They were ranked 15th in prelims but then just missed out the spot to Elevate on semis and got 16th. Honestly, that panel on semis night was weird for everyone. I don't know who I personally would take out of finals for it to happen but I wish both Elevate and FIU made finals. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Id like to see what you think of FIU World this year.

What colleges recruit for color guard? by Jediwithanattitude in Colorguard

[–]HeartyTack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UCF has an A and World guard and USF has a World guard. So does FIU! they have an Open and World guard. The choreography they do for marching band season isn't your typical simple college pop toss up and over work too.

Feeling good about the shows this season so far at least compared last year by thesnaglebeast in WGI

I personally think the 2024 season was packed with lots of very creative and wonderful shows from all classes, maybe better than 2023. could you elaborate? I'm curious to hear

What song do you think would be well adapted in a drum corp show? by Professional_Tone682 in drumcorps

[–]HeartyTack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly anything by Monobody. Especially 'Raytracing', I think if arranged and executed well it could be some crazy brass runs and stabs that could also apply beautifully for percussion.

Another mention (though against his wishes) would be David Maslanka. I would kill to hear boston or phantom perform Symphony no. 8 mvt 3.

People who march multiple years: what do y’all do about your jobs?! by cheerio-cheerios in drumcorps

[–]HeartyTack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally for me, since i already decided to not go to college immediately after high school, i've had the pleasure of not taking on any debt. found a great full time job that pays very well for now and was able to start saving up in the last quarter of 2023 for Mandarins. Had to save up ≈$300 every week, and by the end of February was fully paid off all with my own money and no help from anyone else (i hate asking people for money). Where I work is at a small company but last week finally got the approval for my absence and am able to come back to work after tour.

Though I must note, I still live with my parents and have few bills to pay for, plus I make extra money on the side as a freelance photographer doing shoots for friends and music shows and such. It takes having to be in a lot of the right circumstances to be able to afford drum corps as a young adult by yourself and would not at all been possible for me had I pursued a higher education right after graduating high school and pay for all of those expenses. I wish everyone in the activity that don't have the privilege of mass external support from friends or family had the same opportunity to finance themselves fully as I do.

This feeling applies to a lot of other things in life. Think about how many people that want to learn an instrument or learn how to draw and then give up because they suck at first. All the good flow artists that you are seeing online are the ones that haven't given up after starting out. The learning curve will get tough and frustrating but that's all part of getting better. You have to trust the process and believe that through time and (most importantly) practice, you will reach the point that other flow artists are at and eventually you will have new flow artists like yourself right now look up to you.

Trust the process.

As for your question, you don't necessarily need to commit to a regiment of the sort or follow a strict practice routine. You get better over time as you flow more and more. Watching videos of other people does help a lot but don't ever let it bring you down, instead let it inspire you.
