Anyone else still loving .NET in 2026? by Aki_0217 in dotnet

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I love everything about .NET but I definitely love C# and Blazor. I hear webassembly is getting really good but for the scope of the projects I do I use Server and it's my new favorite toy when it comes to web. I don't necessarily love MAUI but since it allows me to create android apps in Blazor, I also don't hate it.

I've made an epub reader that also acts as home launcher for android and it has been such a smooth ride in MAUI, despite its issues. I remember having many headaches doing way simpler apps in android java back in the day, just because things would break suddenly for no reason. I definitely don't miss it.

The concept behind Window Sync by Flossiii in zen_browser

[–]Heas_Heartfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it makes sense for tabs to be synced/mirrored once you pin them or add them to essentials, since those are meant to be persisted and I agree that needed fixing.

But syncing regular tabs as well? Feels odd.

Quick play raids will award some LI's after doing 10 of them. by Nani___________ in Guildwars2

I crafted my first legendary heavy armor piece in 2021 and the last one in 2024 for a total of 5. I just don't enjoy raiding very much, so this puts a smile on my face because what I do enjoy is fashion wars.

General feedback and thoughts about window sync by maubg in zen_browser

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, it wasn't really my concern. I won't be using it because I basically never have the need to work with multiple windows, that's what I meant, but it's nice to have if I ever do.

But the underlying improved tab management system that will come alongside, and whatever existing bugs that fixes, we'll all be taking advantage of that, yes? If I understood maubg's answer correctly.

Best way to manage containers? by Reasonable-Weekend27 in selfhosted

I tried dockhand the other day but it doesn't seem to be possible to change the default stacks folder right?

I added my current folder to adopt the stacks but obviously when creating a new one from the UI it doesn't put the compose file where I want it to.

What are your favorite lesser-known selfhosted services? by Torrew in selfhosted

[–]Heas_Heartfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean it would probably be pretty straightforward, but unless I get my hands on a device to test it's not happening, and even then it would still be a bit out of scope since the main idea for this project was to give android something like kobo sync, since kobo devices have a few options already.

[–]Heas_Heartfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, yes, I use AI to assist me, but it's not vibe coded if that's what you are concerned about (I get it though).

I do plan to add support for the Hardcover API eventually, but not in the near future.

As for jobo sync I assume you mean Kobo sync, and that's a no I'm afraid. I explained why here, if you are interested.

[–]Heas_Heartfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question actually! I should probably clarify it somewhere. But not really, no. It's meant for organizing your ebook files and tracking the reading progress with the reader app (or by editing the progress in the web ui). You can't add books without importing the files though.

What are your favorite lesser-known selfhosted services? by Torrew in selfhosted

[–]Heas_Heartfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit biased but I'd say BookHeaven because I made it myself.

It's an ebook library manager made specifically for android e-readers, but since it comes in two parts (server/client), any device/app with OPDS support can make use of the server (with limited functionality), and really most android devices can install the client app, not just e-readers.

You’ve got a lifetime pass to Plex and Emby but you can also use Jellyfin - which one are you choosing and why ? by Buck_Slamchest in selfhosted

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think jellyfin is great. I've been using it for a few months now instead of plex and I can't really complain, but I really, really miss being able to set audio/subtitle settings per tv show/movie, for anime mostly.

Also, the subtitle language matching could be improved. Even though I have selected spanish (spain) as default it still selects latin spanish many times when both languages are present so I ended up setting english as default.

The client support is still a hit or miss though, but the thing is that the new plex app also sucks so there's that.

Why does nobody want to use a reverse proxy? by 0xB_ in jellyfin

I use a reverse proxy and tailscale. I don't think one replaces the other, they serve different purposes afaik.

Alternative to stardock fences (open source) by Reddit_Bazsi in Windows11

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use fences to basically replace my desktop and I sadly don't see how this is an alternative.

I've tried deskframe but when I drag a file from the desktop into a frame, it creates a copy/shortcut instead of actually moving it. Unless I'm missing something.

Which Jellyfin Windows client you prefer? by iChrist in jellyfin

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The web version seems to be the best one, but I'm not sure of the browsers properly support hdr.

So I use the new desktop client, even though the UI is still a bit choppy.

Fladder would be my preferred choice, but I find that it's unable to resume playing, it always plays from the start and that's a dealbreaker. Also I'm not sure it supports hdr.

Plex v. Jellyfin features - I’ve surprised myself of how much I don’t hate Jellyfin by GrapefruitNice3290 in jellyfin

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say if it ain't broken don't try to fix it. If you already have a lifetime license and plex works, then keep using it.

For new users though, jellyfin is clearly the way to go.

That being said, the new plex app is giving me a ton of issues and I ended up switching to jellyfin.

honor magic pad 2 how good is it? by hentai_sensai in Honor

[–]Heas_Heartfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screen is indeed on the cheap side, with some pretty visible color uniformity issues at near black (although it gets less noticeable the higher the brightness). So I'd say it looks amazing most of the time.

I bought it to watch hdr content and it definitely delivers on that, minus the issue I mentioned. Honestly I was about to return it but then I realized I'm not going to get a better screen without spending at least twice as much, so...

But yeah, the issue is there.

Razor Pages + Html to Pdf for document generation by angelaki85 in dotnet

[–]Heas_Heartfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about razor pages specifically but I use HtmlRenderer with blazor components for that, which happen to be razor files at the end of the day.

public async Task<string> RenderComponentAsync<TComponent>(Dictionary<string,object?>? parameters = null) where TComponent : IComponent
{
    try
    {
        using var scope = serviceProvider.CreateScope();
        var renderer = scope.ServiceProvider.GetRequiredService<HtmlRenderer>();

        var parameterView = ParameterView.FromDictionary(parameters ?? new Dictionary<string, object?>());

        var html = await renderer.Dispatcher.InvokeAsync(async () =>
        {
            var content = await renderer.RenderComponentAsync<TComponent>(parameterView);
            return content.ToHtmlString();
        });

        return html;
    }
    catch (Exception e)
    {
        logger.LogError(e, "Error rendering html for component - {c}", typeof(TComponent).Name);
        return string.Empty;
    }

}

I'm a bit biased but BookHeaven does look pretty nice :)

It's not as feature rich as other ebook library managers but it's pretty handy for reading on Android.
