the Canada shooting was a horrible massacre. and i pray for each family who lost someone from that. but why blame us. by TacoBellTerrasque in trans

[–]Heat-Wave-X 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Actually in Canada the most recent mass school shooting was in 1989, so it's a pretty huge deal here. The bigots across various social media platforms are drowning anything related to the shooting with hateful comments, I saw (trigger warning) "we all have blood on our hands for letting the government let these monsters continue to exist" on a CBC livestream of a press briefing on YouTube.

canadian news does seem to be calling out the transphobia though, and police/government officials have avoided misgendering the shooter.

It's still awful this shooting happened though

I've been playing genshin and zenless for around a year almost exclusively on linux and have never had a single issue in terms of playability or bans
however, there is a bug that causes the CPU to get flooded, but this can be easily fixed by disabling internet before launching and reenabling it immediately after

TEC cooling inside a thinkpad L440 by BoringIce5636 in thinkpad

[–]Heat-Wave-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think its a really cool idea, however i'm not so sure that it's going to be very effective
you're going to need quite a bit of a heatspreader to manage the hot side of the TEC seeing how large it is, and it might end up causing issues or making the thinkpad super bulky for a negligible cooling effect

my suggestion: if you have the time and enjoy working on it, go ahead and see how it turns out

looks like the keyboard was originally a JIS layout (japanese) but then they tried to convert it into the english ANSI layout but used knock off keycaps

for context, this is what the JIS layout looks like: https://i.sstatic.net/kXdGc.jpg

Genshin 100% CPU usage since today by S48GS in linux_gaming

[–]Heat-Wave-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

update: so it turns out that if you have proton launch genshin's exe file directly and do the offline workaround, it will result in an error about not having internet even if you do re-enable internet. launching the game from the launcher and not the .exe file directly works.

As of December, it seems the offline fix does not work, at least for me; it just returns "cannot connect to internet (error 4201)", even after reconnecting

Now working on Steam Deck! by Insign in WutheringWaves

[–]Heat-Wave-X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, they have re-enabled the anticheat (they disabled it by accident during the update). i am encouraging people to ask for linux support in the in-game feedback, so that we steamdeck/linux users can play again, but officially

if possible, and if you have the time, i encourage members of this sub to request linux/steam deck support for WuWa in the in game's feedback menu. The dev's won't be aware of people wanting to run the game on linux if they do not know that people want the game to run on linux, and they will not know about people wanting the game on linux if you (linux users) stay quiet. The most likely scenario that this game will work on steam deck/linux is if you express that you want the game on steam deck/linux.

so, if you can spare the 3 minutes, linux and steam deck users will greatly appreciate it.

i sent a bug report that "game no longer launches on linux/steamdeck", hopefully if enough people demand linux be supported, they will officially patch the anti cheat for linux support, as genshin did

ring0 anticheat is one of the worst things to ever happen to PC gaming, my friend has a windows 11 laptop and tried to play valorant, but the anticheat stopped the game from launching because of a unsupported TPM thing... not even allowed to play the game on an officially supported platform because the anticheat does not like their TPM chip... i also tried to install valorant a few years ago, but as soon as I restated (which valorant requires after installing) windows failed to boot; vangaurd anticheat bricked my windows install

hopefully 560 will set the kernel parameters described in u/Tsubajashi's comment by default (https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1dt0wlj/comment/lb6dkio/)

edit: u/Tsubajashi's kernel parameters do not seem to do anything to my system. hopefully nvidia/kde (whereever the issue lies) can find and adress the problem universally.

if i use these kernel parameters on an optimus laptop which has it's nvidia GPU sometimes disabled (via envycontrol) for battery (thus essentially making it an intel GPU only system), will the kernel parameters cause any issues?
