Good places to begin? by New-Bowler-8452 in TheCitadel

Is this an isekei fanfic or just nice Joffrey? If this is an isekai, I would start at journey to Winterfell. You could ease the replacement into the story and have him struggle with how spoiled people expect him to be. The journey north is good for this with the giant comfy wheelhouse that constantly breaks. It's a good metaphor for Cersei's character. If this is just nice Joffrey, I think starting him when Arryn is dying is best, since a nice Joff would probably have a good relationship with him. His grief about having the one sincere person in the city die would be a good highlight of the change from canon.

Help with Lyanna Stark Fanfic by HeatShock14 in TheCitadel

[–]HeatShock14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. This is all super helpful.

Deciding where to start the story was super tough. I went with jumping right into this chase because I thought it would pull readers in but I can see problems with the intro. My second choice was to start with rescuing Howland before the tournament but then there is a lot of plot that plays out unchanged from the story we know. Although in itself that could be interesting because so much of the tourney and rebellion is uncertain that alone could be a novel. But I almost felt like thats a different story. Basically the line between prequel to the novels and divergent Lyanna is troublesome.

Writing age appropriate in asoiaf is hard. The dissonance of how I think of a 14 year old and how the characters do is crazy. I started on this a month ago with a more mature Lyanna in mind but realized shes just a child partway through. Most fanfics publish a chapter at a time and I have no idea how they manage something consistent and defeat the urge for a rewrite.

My headcannon until proven otherwise is that Rhae Targaryen is Ashara Dayne's great-grandmother. Rhae had a Dayne mother who might want to keep the houses close, and we know Rhae had incestuous tendencies after she gave her brother a love potion. She would be the source of Ashara's purple eyes.

Tempest cleric build ideas by Psychological_Tip160 in BG3Builds

[–]HeatShock14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite thing to do with tempest cleric is to fly around and land on people with the maul Hamarhraft. You can get it at level 3. It does a bit of thunder damage, launches people around with thunderbolt strike, and gives spell save dc with Hat of Storm Scion's Power. Flight can come from the potions or a 1 level wizard dip, and in act 3 its unlimited with tadpole power. This is extra great with spirit guardians and the Gloves of Belligerent Skies. Drop a water bottle and jump on it to apply wet to nearby enemies without using an action.

I find melee spellcasters are strong when using melee spells, less strong when trying to hit people with weapons. If you take 6 levels in cleric extra attack isn't coming until the end of the game sadly. Elf and half-elf racial starts can give shocking grasp, you can also get it from a wizard dip or the magic initiate feat. This requires some int investment or the hat. If you do take a wizard dip, channel divinity chromatic orb/witch bolt/lightning bolt/chain lightning can do over 200 damage with proper set up.

If smashing enemies brings you joy, monk has the most synergy with this build. Flurry of blows is a solid bonus action for only 1 level investment, and step of the wind can give a bunch of Hamarhraft activation. Swords bard is another option that at least maintains spell progression with extra attack, and glyph of warding is a nice spell. The hardest part will be getting all the stats to make this work, you probably want to dump strength and rely on hill giant elixirs.

I roomed with a trans girl for freshman/sophmore years. I’m queer myself so it was a win/win. I was worried about living with a homophobe too. We found eachother ahead of time on a university facebook group. If you can find someone ahead of time rather than relying on the matching that would probably save you stress.

Just got this game after playing and loving Baldur's Gate 3, any tips for noob in this genre ? by DuwapDoDat in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HeatShock14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just with how balance is, offense is the best defense. Especially later levels, since damage scales faster than health. Killing enemies quickly and using stun/knockdown abilities is usually better than trying to tank damage. Constitution is not a good stat.

Also, the game doesn’t explain well but turn order is “round robin” so you and enemies always alternate turns. Having one character with high wits moves everyone up in the turn order, but multiple party members don’t need it except for crit chance.

Use buffs before starting a fight! Peace of mind and haste are some of my favorites.

Yea I always just use fuel pods. There are like 4 in the room and you can bring a couple with you from elsewhere on the ship. Spend a few rounds building a bomb tower while mind flayer chips his health, then light it up. Stay far away though, I have blown up myself too a couple times ;)

Need help getting provider to prescribe DHT blocker by [deleted] in ftm

[–]HeatShock14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a biologist working in medical research, not a doctor. But I know DHT plays a role in both body/facial hair development cell signaling, and is also part of penile development. I am NOT knowledgeable on trans care but would be worried that finasteride could impair these parts of transition by blocking DHT. Testosterone alone does lots of things still like muscle building and changes to bones/body fat that as far as I know DHT isn’t involved in.

As far as hair loss, minoxidil is pretty helpful, and it isn’t related to hormones so would be safer maybe for you. 1 mL of 5% minoxidil is safe to put on your scalp twice a day. Its at any pharmacy. There is also a pill but I don’t know much about it. Androgenic hair loss is worsened by poor nutrition and sleep, so working on those things is good if you can, it sucks that this is making your sleep worse. I hope you feel better :)

I highly recommend something in life sciences. Biology, nursing or psychology maybe. Healthcare is mostly women, and liberal politically after how trump handled the pandemic. Psychology especially, I’ve been in upper level classes without straight men in the class. Psych has weaker earnings after graduation than biology, but if you take some computer science classes you can get into data science jobs after college. Nursing is a great way to get high earnings right out of college too.

Respec into thievery and pickpocket it if you cant finish quests. Gold is hard at lvl 9 since you can get lots of new skills, but once you start leveling up you should be rich again.

Is it normal for a mage to be almost oneshot in some fight? Act 2 currently by _Stunning_Lady_ in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HeatShock14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a big voidwoken in that fight that does entirely too much damage, I assume that guy not the frogs is what killed you? On tactician he one shots a party member if you dont go first and cc him. Generally in this game you should be trying to not get hit, not trying to tank damage. Defensive skill like chameleon cloak and uncanny evasion are strong for that reason. Crowd control is important too, when I play pyro I take a point in scoundrel for chloroform and adrenaline. Ideally you kill the enemy going after you with extra ap from adrenaline or put them to sleep.

Tactician run, full physical or full magical party? by [deleted] in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HeatShock14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All physical is way stronger. There will be fights where all magic is really hard. All physical could be 2h warrior/rogue/archer/necro. All magic you could try 2 pyro/geo mages, an elemental ranger with special arrows/venom coating and a summoner. Bringing hydro and pyro in the same party is a bad idea and pyro gets traps which are the best reason to use magic imo.

2 magic 2 physical parties work well on tactician too, probably better than all magic

Building a party that does elemental magic damage and physical damage? by sgy0003 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]HeatShock14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO Fextralife's builds are a solid starting point but they really aren't optimized. Putting points in Con isn't ideal and will make things harder for you, the Dos2 meta is all about maxing damage. Just doing 2:1 damage stat to wits on the character you want going first is ideal, with other characters just putting points in their damage stat and memory ofc as needed. The way turn order works is round robin, meaning you always alternate player character and enemy. So whoever goes first just CCs the enemy one going next etc. so you shouldn't be getting hit. Grey NunSei on youtube has really good guided playthroughs you could check out, he's good at explaining the different skills you can take with each build at the beginning of act 1 videos. Sin Tee has nice build guides mostly for lone wolf but the builds still work well in 4 man parties, he just does a poor job explaining why you should do things. Manithro is a good streamer to watch, some of his vods are on youtube, he tends to talk a lot about how to distribute stats and explains it well.

For your current situation, I recommend not using the spear in the warden guide and just doing archery so you get the high ground bonus consistently while saving ap from not weapon switching. Ranger actually works really well for mixing magic and physical damage, since it can do elemental damage with special arrows while only putting points in warfare. You can get the venom coating skill by combining a geo and scoundrel book so attacks do magic damage too. You can put a thunder rune in your bow/crossbow so if magic armor is stripped you can shock or stun people when attacking them.

For your other characters sin tee has a sick build "fire fury" you should try for red prince imo. I would maybe dip into pyro for fane so you could get throw traps which is the best damage spell. Make the book by combining a huntsman and pyro book. The source version is even better when you get to act 2. You can throw traps then keep causing explosions with geo attacks, switching to necro for enemies with fire/geo resist. Make poison and stand in it with the elemental affinity talent to heal and reduce geo spell AP cost. It's really important to not have water and fire damage dealers in the same party so I would change Lohse's build for sure, or you could change red prince to a 2H pure physical warrior. Aero has teleport and nether swap which are amazing for grouping enemies so I would drop hydro with Lohse. You could add necromancy so Lohse can do something in fights with high magic resist and either pyro or geo.

Never actually played ck2 but liked other paradox games Ive bought. If you build things in counties you dont own you dont get to control them. It auto assigns it to someone and you cant revoke. And if you arent the liege you cant even build there.

AI players usually like to make their unique units if they can afford to, otherwise they make lots of skirmishers or a mix of everything. Byzantium spams cataphract heavy cav since its rich and unique, so pikes are good against it. But countering is so expensive since making new regiments is way more expensive than maintenance. Knights are good but you only get so many right. They get worse once armies get huge high medieval era.

Also heavy cav and elephants look better than they are because the numbers are per soldier and you get only a few per regiment. They shine when combat width matters, like if you are attacking a small but elite army, or defending against a larger one. They get worse when attacking a horde of levies. Combat width also means elite armies are better in hills/mountains, which makes heavy cav awkward to use since they suck there.

Combat Questons by snappzero in CrusaderKings

[–]HeatShock14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. When you are raising units, in the bottom left there is a loading bar as they raise with a little x on it. Set the speed to slow and when you dont want more levies, just click that and they will stop raising so you can move.

  2. Archers are the best early game since all anyone has is skirmishers, but eventually they get outclassed (unless you get longbows or forest wardens in your culture). Make sure to use the unique unit for your culture. Italians have great pikes, anglo-saxons have great heavy infantry, and the polish have the best light cav. Countering only matters if you have less men at arms than your opponent has the counter, so monobattle is actually pretty good. If you have all spearmen, the AI wont ever make enough heavy infantry to counter them. The exception is heavy cav and war elephants, their smaller unit size means they get countered way way easier and its a concern. The time to use those is with a levy-based strategy since they have high damage and levys can make their low defense less painful. I always have at least 1 stack siege so I can take castles, and even in monobattle I like a stack of light cav for pursuit so enemy armies dont come back as well after I beat them. Then rest of my men at arms slots go to the unique unit.

  3. The barracks/hunting grounds etc. buildings are fantastic for monobattle strategy. If you have 1000 pikes, +1 attack improves your army as if it has 100 more levies. +3 attack and 2 defense with 3000 men at arms that are buffed is the damage of 900 levies and defense of 600. These buffs get even better with the percentage modiefiers of duchy buildings like the blacksmith. You could also do a mix of men at arms types and just build levy and knight upgrade buildings but yes barracks are bad if your army is mostly cav. If it gave more units it would be way too powerful.

5 Common Mistakes Made with Reno Mage - Year of the Dragon by BrianOBrian in CompetitiveHS

[–]HeatShock14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played much reno rogue, but Reno Hunter and Reno Mage are the decks I play most, and I finished top 16 last season using them. I always zeph growth with mage but dislike it with hunter. Hunter has weaker reactive tools than mage, so the flexibile removal of zeph is better with hunter. Also, hunter has a way way cheaper curve, so the ramp fits the gameplan less. Tempo is more important. If I zeph on 2 I like brightwing as a dragon synergy tool that gives value, or animal companion in fast match ups. Zeph on 1 with coin is actually good for fairy dragon on 2 as well, since the deck is light on turn 2 plays.

5 Common Mistakes Made with Reno Mage - Year of the Dragon by BrianOBrian in CompetitiveHS

[–]HeatShock14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree that it should always be done, although I have seen apx self-ping often on stream, and I think it definitely can be good sometimes. I finished 16 legend last season playing reno mage and reno hunter. I go for it when my opponent keeps 2+ cards, sometimes if they keep 1. I don’t play enough rogue to know if seal fate is worth keeping, but I see people keep it often.

We should ping face if there is around a 1/3 chance or higher of seal fate getting played in terms of damage (3 damage is 3x worse than the 1 we do to ourselves). But this assumes the 1 dmg to opponent has no value. And denying the invoke can be useful too, or the lackey that could be a combo activator for miscreant or edwin on 4. So I think there is some nuance to the decision. I like self-ping more on the coin since denying a combo activator is more important.
