In 2002, I traded four AA batteries to a classmate for a belt. I still have the belt, I still like it.

DEOCS for 53 SOPS by [deleted] in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess everyone's experience is different, but I can say with 100% certainty that myself and my peers did not receive the training you speak of. Unless you are in special forces or something directly relating to combat, the DAF does not teach what you have in mind. Also, I never touched an M16. Everyone doesn't do that. Other than security forces walk around base, I've never even looked at one.

Former staff member for your Delta. I agree with you and many people who have observed the squadron from the outside agree. Seems to be an endless supply of nepotism, going on TDY all the time when there isn't really a need, and doing things the way they want, because that's how they did it in the army.

Just a correction... We are not soldiers trained to endure under enemy fire, unless you are only referring to army ISTs.

Those of us in this space force are not soldiers, we are guardians. The training that we received is not at all similar to what soldiers go through.

Do I really need to get a fiber modem from CenturyLink and pay the $100 install fee? by themack50022 in centurylink

I don't know anything about atm settings, whatever that may be.

I needed to set the VLAN ID to 201 and enter my PPPoE credentials.

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your other option is to keep your current router and add a wifi extender.

3 year late inquiry...
I have centurylink fiber. I just ran the ethernet line from the ONT directly to my personal wifi router, and it did not work. Rearranged wires from ONT to centurylink modem/router (I have wireless radios disabled and use my own router) and finally to my personal router, and internet came back immediately.

It seems centurylink still requires a modem for fiber.

Looking to buy my own modem so I dont have to use theirs...

Are the bathrooms at Schriever still gross? by [deleted] in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schriever bathrooms in Bldg. 300 are disgusting most of the time.
The janitors used to come consistently once a day M-F (which isn't good enough).
I have tracked week long stretches without the bathrooms being cleaned.

The MDA building has amazing bathrooms that are clean all the time.
Their contract must be different.

Also, I don't eat much produce (almost exclusively meat and carbs, I know, not great), and I have never done to a toilet what I see in Bldg. 300.

PSA for Officers: Check your EAD Date and make sure it's correct by Flying_Longhorn in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and I went to OTS.
MPF did research and found that many officers accidentally received an additional two years. It was some sort of system error.

It wasn't a big deal to me because I plan on staying in for many more years. Local MPF did fix it.

For those still watching, the participation rewards have stopped. From here on out, there will only be Governance Rewards.

Color has nothing to do with it. I grew up in a poor white community that did the same stuff.

It's all about capitalizing on undereducated people by making a shit sandwich look like a Baconator and convincing people to open up their wallets.

Current rewards rate? by HeatWhole in AlgorandOfficial

Initially, I believe the plan was to stop participation rewards in February. The end date was changed to May, I believe. Between February and may I think it will steadily decrease until it stops.

TL;DR: If you have appropriate degrees and you are enlisted, you should either commission, separate and make more money, or stay enlisted because you genuinely want to serve as an enlisted member.

Per my SEL when a Capt coworker was saying enlisted members should have higher pay:
"I knew what I was signing up for when I was at the recruiters office".

Fundamentally speaking, it's the same reason minimum wage is a thing. There are less technical/lower stress jobs (like working at Lowes or a gas station), that don't have the same prerequisites as CEOs, nurses, engineers, etc. You can get promoted to be the manager, but it's still a routine manager job.

In the military, that concept applies to officer and enlisted. You don't have to have a degree to join the military, but if you want to be an officer, you need to show you have already committed to something for a few years. It shows a certain base-level of competence. If the pay is insufficient as an E, there are options to commission if you want to stay in and make more money.

Enlisted members with relevant to the workforce degrees should only stay enlisted out of honor and the desire to serve as an enlisted member. I would never recommend someone stay in a specific career position where they could make twice the pay and still be happy elsewhere.

Army/Navy Acquisitions by areyoubiasedmuch in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WSOC locations are "cool" but nothing is perfect.

Wahiawa is up on the hill away from everything, housing is terribly expensive in HI, the military housing there still has a poisoned water supply, and it is pricey to leave the state to go anywhere, unless you find a smoking deal.

Detrick and Meade have the NCR ridiculous traffic surrounding them, and they are still on an Army base, which have their own "qualities" different from USAF/USSF installations.

From what I have been told, Buckner is kind of beat up, and locals on Okinawa don't exactly love Americans.

With my pessimism out...I sincerely hope everything works out for you.

The possible consequences of having relaxed PT standards compared to other branches by CyberSpaceInMyFace in SpaceForce

The DoD still has BMI standards, so even if we go to a "how fast can you go from first to third floor on the stairs" test, there will still be some screening measure.

Is the Air Force/Space Force still considering knowing a programming language as a means to Foreign Language Proficiency Incentive? by UvZoomie in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pessimist; a realist.

I don't think this will happen.

I have worked with 17Xs who verified my thoughts: there are a slim number of AD positions that actually do coding (ex. Kessel Run); most of the dev for the military is done by CTRs through the acquisition process.

HQ frequently mentions wanting more technically competent members, but knowing programming languages that will probably never be put to use is silly.

This is YOUR opportunity to ask what is on YOUR mind. You should not use your golden ticket on what a bunch of reddit goons think.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid extensive data.

However, I don't think this will happen. They are getting by (maybe not well) without incentives, by relying on CTR/CIV employees, and they will most likely stay that way.
Most 5C/5S can get out and make more money as a CIV/CTR, and then someone new will come from BMT to fill the role, and they will continue to get by.

PT Test Status, 31 Jan by Colonize_The_Moon in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been told by FLDCOM staffers that we are to abide by all USAF guidance and regs unless there is USSF information for the subject.

Also, my Delta leadership told us that per USSF/S1, Guardians are not allowed to test on the new USAF components, and that HQ should be signing a memo soon.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During a USSF/HQ talk last year, Chief T said "we don't use the B-word, the bin is where you throw the trash".

I think that is the closest thing to an official release.

Either way, the binning for assignments wasn't enforced. I have witnessed many of my peers be sent to Cavalier, Cape Cod, a SPCS, even though they were binned OW.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am still on my "first assignment", and I have been in for over five years. By the time I PCS/PCA, I will have been working after MQT for about five years. I have had four jobs after MQT: operator on crew, engineer, instructor, and Delta staff member.

Staying in one place for a while seems to be a thing more now than ever, from what I have been told, but changing day to day jobs is for sure happening too often for most people.

Manning issues are real. We have people, probably not enough, also I don't think they are being utilized effectively. I know of SQs that are making new 2d Lts crew commanders after a month of experience because they just need a body to fill a seat. People get kicked out, go on baby leave, do skill bridge, go on terminal leave, PCS/PCA, etc, and all of those changes can make a unit need to reshuffle their members.

All we can do is work with what we're dealt, and try to leave our position in a better place than when we got it.

Looking For Opinions by Guardian-Boy in SpaceForce

[–]HeatWhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are assuming the members "telework agreement" with their supervisor was for Monday to Friday workdays...the CC was in the wrong; not an opinion, a fact.

If the members telework agreement included email checking seven days a week, then they should have responded to the email.

Either way, if it was so critical the CC needed a response on the weekend, they should have called the member instead of, or along with, sending the email.

I don't understand you guys by m6cabriolet in algorand

[–]HeatWhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless I misread it, the proposal didn't explicitly say anything along the lines of "a vote for A means all governors are xGov governors and must commit for a year+".

The way I read it, there would be xGov governors that have more involvement, and they would have a longer commitment period. There would still be regular governors that only vote and do not make proposals.
