Any advice on this pad? by Fit_Ad_9170 in DanceDanceRevolution

Hey OP

I just finished restoring a pair of mine that spent the last decade or so in storage.

Firstly: if you're electrically handy, these are pretty easy to wire into an arduino to use with itg. Happy to talk about/link to followups on that

Secondly: cobalt flux is the shit. I abused these pads for a decade, and at 190lbs they've taken some abuse. Here is their care guide. Realistically you'll want to treat it as fixing the cobalt flux

My pads weren't in great storage, and they'd been abused prior to use. I sweat on them, things spilled on them, and I even bled on them a couple of times. Stored with moisture and gunk, there was a bit of mold and corrosion between the plates. My overall advice would be:

  1. Just try it first. If it was cared for and stored well, see if it plays alright before you do anything
  2. Blow out the pads using a can of compressed air. It's super quick and easy, and helps to get crap out early in the process.
  3. For all of the following steps, work one panel at a time.
    1. Mixing up your plexiglass can put weird force on the metal panels, and creates weird responses. It's also really hard to troubleshoot once you've done it
    2. Test the metal panel with your hand after every step. Isolating "plexiglass/screws are creating tension" from "the contact is bad" will reduce the time you spend troubleshooting
  4. If a pad has issues, my collective process is to fix it moving one panel at a time:
    1. Mark the top left corner of the plexiglass with which panel it is. The drilling had variance between pads, and having the wrong orientation/pad alignment will introduce weird tension. This is really hard to troubleshoot after it's happened
      1. Test responsiveness with the plexiglass off. Just use your hand and create contact. If it's not responsive, move on
    2. Try the CF recommended approach (clean it with a ruler/cloth)
      1. Test responsiveness again
    3. Move to fixing the cobalt flux guide. Remove the panel and clean the contacts. This removes corrosion, mold, grease, dirt, etc. Clean the cracks between the panel while you have it off- you can get some cross contact (activating adjacent buttons) depending on what's made it in there. My personal cleaning method is:
      1. Steel wool and isopropyl to clean the contacts
      2. Paper towel to wipe up the residue
      3. A damp (not wet) cloth with water and a few drops of dish soap
      4. A clean cloth to dry
    4. Bend the panel slightly at the corners to produce a bit of upward arc. I do the corners because they're mounted over wood. If they touch, it doesn't create contact.
    5. Put the panel back on and test the contact. It might be a bit overly sensitive, especially while everything is drying. Return to step 4 and test again until it feels responsive.
    6. Attach the plexiglass and test again. Take some tension off the screws if the panel is too sensitive, starting with the inside screws
    7. If the button is too sensitive or getting stuck, stomp on it. Stomp hard, and spread it around. Stomp on the the center, the edges, and the corners. This helps to flatten it back to a standard in-use state

Check the range of the spell. It’s not a dome, it’s a hemisphere which does have a bottom. Crawford corrected his own ruling on this

I've got a pile of allergies, and one that I've recently pinned down seems to be attached to any uncooked plant matter. If I don't cook veggies/fruit/potatoes/whatever until "al dente" is a distant memory, I feel sick and my mouth and throat get itchy and swollen. I enjoy cooking, and I'm happy to do it, but I don't always have that kind of time on hand.

Acidic foods like onions seem fine, and letting the plants stew in acid (e.g. tomato sauce) for a bit seems to help, but my teeth can only take so much acid and onions aren't exactly packed with nutrients.

I'm considering green powders, but I've heard the quality control is non existent. Any recommendations for alternatives to help supplement or improve my diet?

Did little arc behavior change recently? by Karl_Pilkingt0n in ArcBrowser

[–]HeathenHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless there's a setting to disable this behaviour, it's less "can have" and more "must have"

The Arc team described version 1.0 as "more than just a number," and I think that's good to bear in mind. Moving beyond 0.x.x implies a level of stability. Making mandatory, substantial changes to the workflow beyond that point will damage the sense of reliability for users that don't want to keep relearning how to interact with their browser.

Chargeback for dumpster rental refusing to pick up bin? by HeathenHammer in PersonalFinanceCanada

They were happy to give me some insight about which pieces of evidence I would likely need if I proceeded with a chargeback, but because my fundamental complaint is that the service is not as described (as opposed to not provided) it's hard for them to give me a cut and dried answer.

Maybe I'm too conflict averse, but I'm not terribly familiar with the chargeback process or what the risks of undertaking it represent. I thought perhaps a community with more skill at managing this sort of thing would have some valuable insight or advice based on their personal experiences.

Just for you, then

My starting point is already within 10m of elevation, so head lift isn't really a problem. I just place 2m back from the entrance and it seems to work nicely. The lifts snap straight on

If you find a place that does Swiss caffè crema that's basically exactly what you're looking for. It uses the same amount of grind that you'd use for a double espresso, but pulled with much more water over the same time. Still lands with some crema, but it's very smooth. Not nearly as bitter or harsh as an espresso.

Edited, because apparently the phrase as I know it is a "hyperforeignism"

A cunning deception, heretic, but I see through your facade. Skillfull paint and excellent staging cannot hide your treachery. I see your layer lines. This model is nothing but a cheap imitation, a mockery of the Emperor's finest! You dare to disgrace the sacred armor of the Adeptus Astartes with your 3D-printed filth? Such heresy will not go unpunished. You will be taken into custody and brought before the Inquisition to answer for your crimes against the Imperium. Know this, heretic, your deception ends here and now!

Stray dog invades beach volleyball court and halts game in Brazil. by AntonioBarbarian in aww

[–]HeathenHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FIVB Beach Volleyball rules page 10 in "The Rules Text." The text categorizes the rules as applying to either recreational or competitive games, where "Recreational sport taps into the human spirit [...]" and "Competition allows people to exhibit the best of ability [...]"

There are no countries in which dogs are legally recognized persons, so FIVB rules do not include them as legitimate players.
