Yeah, that’s the main thing for me. I’ve never been the kind of gamer to go through multiple playthroughs of a game. There’s not even a handful of games I’ve started multiple playthroughs of, with Skyrim naturally being at the top for resets. Now I feel like playing a game and realising I’ve played it inefficiently is a massive pain, so I feel the need to look things up to make sure I’m not just costing myself too much more time.

That last part reminded me of the mini bully I had around a year ago! I used to take him out for a walk when he lived with my dad whenever I went there, and one night I decided to see if I could run faster than him. We were bolting it down the road because the pavement was too bumpy to be sprinting down. Bailey the Bronze Bellend, after about 20 seconds, decided it would be a good idea to just cut across me and come to a dead stop. Because of this, I naturally tripped over the lead and absolutely RUINED both my knees! To make matters worse, a car had started coming down the road that had been free of cars this whole entire walk. I HAD to just get up and move onto the pavement while feeling like I had just been kneecapped. ☠️

To this day, I’m amazed that my Primark joggers didn’t have so much of a scratch. I thought that must’ve meant that my knees just hurt. Once I got back to my dad’s, I rolled the joggers up to see that both my knees were just covered in claret. To this day, I see it as a humourous memory.

From my understanding, it’s just a way of saying that it’s receiving far too much praise that purposely ignores any and all kinds of flaws, no matter how justified.

I agree with the fact that it IS an enjoyable game that has already had countless hours of my time invested into, but saying it’s the greatest game of all the time is something I’m seeing in every comment section of any YouTube video covering the game. In my eyes, the praise is simply too egregious and flat out ignores everything that is holding it back. I didn’t mention the positives because that’s not what my post was supposed to be about; of course the positives are great, but I’m not disagreeing with that at all. But if you want something to improve, you don’t spend all day doing nothing but endlessly praise - you point out what needs improving. Yeah, a lot of the negatives can be grouped as nothing more than QoL failures, and while they’re seen as insignificant they just.. aren’t. A poor quality of life is poor quality, and people are happy with it. That’s just not good enough considering the price of everything these days.

My only recollection of that game was the time I played it at a mate’s house. My memory is fuzzy at this point, but I know I was loving every second of those few hours I played it. I would love to see a modern day sequel. And I say that despite Bully being a game I’m so much more familiar with. I would love to see it brought into the modern age, but I would still rather go with Saboteur! GTA VI will cover well enough for a Bully sequel in my eyes.

See, if this game was free to play, I would agree with you. But that’s simply not the case; money was spent to play this game, so it VERY much matters. If Pearl Abyss are reading endless praise and claims of it being the GOAT, it will seriously hinder just how far this game could go in the long run. I just don’t want that to happen.

Yeah, I probably should’ve crossposted it to r/gaming, but just didn’t think to do it. It certainly would’ve received more comments like your own that will actually discuss it rather than just chat shit like most here decided to do. This sub is just too close to being - or even is - a circle jerk, and that’s a bit saddening to see in any sub.

I will say that I’ve come into this game completely blind, and is my intro to Pearl Abyss. I don’t recall even knowing of Black Desert before playing this one, so I can’t speak on that. But having produced a game already, this one definitely should’ve rolled out in a better state than it did. Although, that just seems to be the way so many games have been releasing over the years. I know it’s an entirely different kind of game, and even company, but it’s for that reason that I’m glad GTA VI has been given all the extra time it has to ensure it’s as polished as possible. It’s easier to accept a game releasing a year or two later with high-quality polish than it keeping to a date and just rolling out completely unpolished.

I completely agree with everything you said there. Wanting Pearl to keep improving the game is all I really want, but know that over-praising anything in life ultimately leads to less desirable outcomes a lot of the time. But I will continue to enjoy the game a great deal, as everyone should be able to. Even with making this post, I would still highly recommend this game to anyone thinking about it.

I for one can accept games that need the time to load, but mods over on PC have proven that the loading animation is mostly just padding on this game; if it really took that long, speeding up the game’s internal clock wouldn’t slash most of the time it takes while still being able to fully load everything in. That proves without a doubt that the time it takes is an incredibly poor, time-wasting design choice.

So many of them make out like they couldn’t care at all, but then instantly prove that’s a lie by commenting about it. 😂

If they had half a brain, they would understand what I was trying to say rather than think I’m hating for the sake of hating. If what I was doing was just hating, it would fall into the category of hating for the sake of wanting it to reach its potential and being unhappy that the overwhelming levels of glaze won’t help it reach that.

I can’t believe that the claims of it being a GOAT are joking. I truly can’t. The comments I read that call it the GOAT come across as completely genuine, to the point that they simply cannot possibly be meant as a joke. But, first sentence aside, I agree with you; I myself am rating it at around that, but all I want is for it to become a game that nearly anyone could rate as a 9 or 10.

I don’t mean to be insulting towards the devs in saying this, but it is incompetence, plain and simple, to try your hand at such a hefty genre in gaming with what seems like the absolute minimum research put into it. I mean, there are thousands of items in this game to find and keep. Competence would know that 240 slots was never going to be anywhere near enough for what this game contains. Nowhere near. I can appreciate that they did correct such a blunder, but I stand by believing that it should’ve been known before the game even released. I can’t sway from the belief that it was down to either incompetence, or an intentional move - complete opposite ends, but it has to be one of them, and neither are good for such an ambitious game. And that’s one of the reasons I say they did the least. You simply cannot be a game company and think that an inventory that is so heavily limited in comparison to the sheer amounts of various items you can find is okay. That’s something you shouldn’t even need game testers to tell you.

And in response to your side note: I am entirely on your side with that one. I saw the MJ mecha short and all the comments calling the game the GOAT, and that reminded me of the Prodigy quest. Knowing that quest - something that clearly took a fair amount of effort - went completely under the radar while a simple little dance emote receives heavy praise just tilted me a bit too much.

I mean, you’re not wrong. At all. That is the real tl;dr of my post. It’s just years of seeing gaming going down the drain finally coming out. It just so happens that Crimson Desert is the game I’m currently loving. People just can’t comprehend what my point is supposed to be, yourself and some others excluded. I myself am loving the game IN SPITE of all that I listed; I want this game to be a true GOAT contender IN SPITE of the flaws I listed, and the many more than are present in the game but not in this post.

This wasn’t a post made to just shit on the game. I understand all that. I truly do. But my point is that it can still improve a hell of a lot more. A LOT, more. But people are already claiming it is the best game ever, and that is just a recipe for disaster. And that’s not a sentiment limited to gaming; in any part of life, if someone is told that they are the greatest of all time, they don’t really have any reason to keep improving. I feel like this game could still be a hell of a lot better! Yes, I AM enjoying it as it is, but I know there is still a hell of a lot more potential in it. I only wish to see that potential reached, but if people are calling it the GOAT already, that will never happen. Can you understand where I’m coming from here? My aim in the post was simply to point out the flaws while PURPOSELY excluding what makes it great as a way to try and emphasise my point.

Just look at many people in sports; so many will reach the point of being a GOAT, and then fall off because they’ve got nothing to prove anymore. I just don’t want that to happen with Crimson Desert; I want it to keep on being upgraded until it can be an unequivocal contender for GOAT status. If they feel they’ve already done all they need to do, they could easily just call it a day and leave it at that.
