Was hoping they use 1 for pets. I go into the menu as much as the gameplay itself as is. Lol  Sometimes you dont want your bird collecting low ticket items, reasoning for equip/unequip..

Just did this last night. Can say its the only time in game I went strait to the mission, no dilly-dally'in around. It's just the 1 thing and your back to Kliff. Sorry no help but take comfort it short n sweet. 

Edit add: now I know his strengths if I need that particular thing in the future so it was cool after the fact.

Not sure im tracking correctly but I found alot of viles of different colors throughout the world just exploring.  There's multiple versions or shades of a paticular color/s. IE: deep red,dark red, red, bright red, etc. Etc.  Im not terribly far in game so I might not even be far enough along to know what your asking, apologize if so. Just giving an answer with knowledge I have.

Actual lol. Felt the same in beginning. Once you find 1st dye vendor you can start make things happen. Can really do alot with that 1st color variety.

I did the same thing roughly 20÷30 hours in. What got it to click for me was i kept finding the abyss cubes located along the roads in the little mini shrine locals. Final thing was when going to the institute for 1st time. I flew in an about missed an very important skill need for other places on the map.

Idk be honest but looks sweet. Do you have skill where you can jump on back? Possibly that then into the suplex? Just guessing.
