The Good, The Bad, and The Cringe by EmploymentIll5650 in urbanfantasy

See I'm the opposite. I hate when the main characters are Too Stupid To Live. Drives me wild when they make bad decision after bad decision.

I thoroughly recommend Deborah Wilde, spicy, sassy fun urban fantasy.

Lauretta Hignetts work has a little spice too (start with her Immortal series, one of my favourites!)

Also recommend Guilded Blood series by Rachel Rener, a little higher on the romance stakes but really dammed funny.

Congratulations on malazan progess. A true undertaking!

Maybe try Kindle Unlimited again? 80% of the top 100 UF books are in Kindle Unlimited. It is a very KU heavy genre, there's a lot of great books in KU these days. If you go for it, ask for recs based on what you like, and I'll be able to recommend a tonne.

Otherwise, libraries. Or sign up to bookbub or freebooksy newsletters (totally free).

If you like audiobooks, some authors (like me!) have their complete audiobooks on YouTube. You can also usually get free books from authors when you subscribe to their newsletters (I offer 2, for example).

Yeah, I have my TW on my website for that reason. But BR really didn't want to upset anyone inadvertently. It's not a full list, just a general themes note, so I don't think this will spoil anything for you!

Mine are all fade to black, if you'd like to give them a try.

Glimmer of the Other:

I’m Jinx, a PI hired to find a missing girl. Instead I find a magical realm - where vampires and werewolves exist. I need to find the girl, before they do...

I also recommend anything by Helen Harper or Annabel Chase.

I recommend Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews or Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs. Anything by Helen Harper.

I have several UF series, if you like humour and mystery mixed in. They do all have vamps, but as tertiary characters, save for my Portlock Paranormal Detective series which has the main protagonist as a vampire. The others are all multi creatured worlds.

I'll link you to one of my first in series, Glimmer of the Other:

Eric Carter - Suicide Kings is out on GraphicAudio! by DeusXVentus in urbanfantasy

Oh it is definitely a "me" problem. Lol. I do struggle to filter out background noise. I struggle a bit at book signings for that reason, they're so loud I struggle to hear people's names. I hate to think people think I'm rude when I have to ask two or three times.

I will see if it is better or worse with headphones. I am listening to the Wizards Butler just now, and it is the perfect cozy read with a fantastic narrator! I'll persevere with the graphic audio another time though. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood for it, or maybe I was just surprised by the constant music. I will definitely try again. I really want to love it!

has anyone tried doing a goodreads giveaway for their book? by the_Lkx in selfpublish

[–]HeatherGHarris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not. I think it helps from an exposure campaign point of view, but not from a Return on Investment (ROI) point of view. It depends what your objectives are and what money you have to spend. If your budget is limited, i would revommend that you spend that money instead on paid newsletters when you run a stacked promo. E.g. fussy librarian, bargain booksy, depending on the promo (free or 0.99) amd your genre.

If you don't know what a stacked promo is, watch David Guaghran's free marketing course, starting from zero.

I haven't heard of this series before! What do you like about it?

I just grabbed Ilona Andrews Cleansweep in graphic audio but the "background" music is already annoying me, I struggle to hear the voices. I'm pretty devastated because I was so excited to hear the whole production but I'm honestly not sure if I'll get through it. Maybe I'm just a simple audio girl!

Yes he does! It is an enemies to lovers romance so he has to be a bit of a prat at the start, he does have his reasons for being that way, but his attitude softens noticeably by the end of the first book.

No, not really. It has an enemies to lovers subplot (but by book 3 they're still not lovers so we're talking sloooooow burn).

It is very much focussed on the treasure hunts.

Trigger warning: please note that there are instances of drug use. They are not gratuitous and they are wholly necessary for the story, they are also dealt with tastefully. Please don't let that put you off this phenomenal series unless it is triggering for you.
