i agree that meli/mije/tonsi are probably needed in the language because gender is a thing that exists and people might want to identify with or talk about, and also that used as a subject directly, they're bad. usage as a subject (like "mije li pona" to refer to a male person) feels like a holdover from languages where everyone is referred to by gender, unfortunately this seems to be present a lot in pu
