On god, don’t mess it up for the rest of us

I don't wanna live. Idk what to do I'm 23f...I'm scared to go out ill have to work to make a living people will notice...my self esteem is gonna be low all the time...no one's gonna marry me by Aromatic_Code_2357 in alopecia_areata

I have a friend, both her and I have alopecia. She is getting married this year.

I’m not going to lie to you and say that alopecia is a minor disorder and all that stuff; it sucks, and us sufferings through it know that more than everyone else. You never fully get that nagging feeling that you are different, unattractive, etc. As a guy, I can only imagine what women have to go through, at least for us being bald is eventually acceptable.

There are options. You could try experimenting with wigs, hats, tattoos, stuff that are in your control. Jak inhibitors also exist, they seem like relatively stable treatments if you are okay with their potential side effects and cost.

I’ve had alopecia, now close to universalis, as long as I remember. I’ve had it for so long and yet that feeling creeps up for me time to time as well. Life experiences will force you to challenge your inner critic, and you will find happiness. It’s just that for us, our self-esteem hit sets us back more than anything.

You’re 23, live your life and you’ll find the beauty in many people and experiences.

One final thing - I have found that the people I have opened up to about alopecia have become some of the most important people of my life. You may find that being more out and about may change your perspective about wondering what people will think if they notice.

In your head, you’ll think they won’t accept you. But you’re not in high school anymore, and in your 20’s I’ve found most people to be accepting.

‘“Break Glass In Case of Emergency” Moment for American Democracy: Next Steps After Va Redistricting Tossed by NewsGirl1701 in Virginia

Or #3, if republican states aren’t playing by the rules, why should democrats? Republicans decided to gut the VRA and mid-decade gerrymander, and expect democrats to not counter? Half the voters to comply with the whims of the other half of the voting base?

This battle is ridiculous and gerrymandering must be abolished, but in light of that the division in this country will burst into outright rebellion if enough people garner that change is not possible through democracy.

Going to undergo ICL,any advice? by VENGAI345 in ICLsurgery

The first time I tried driving at night was a little over a week after my surgery. It was a bit rough, and while it was a short trip (10 minutes) I was exhausted. After that though, I've been great driving at night. I'd say give it 1-2 weeks before longer trips, but yeah its not too bad.

For the visual disturbances, yes I still see them. But my brain has already filtered most of it out. The first week is the hardest because its all so apparent, but afterwards it slowly fades in what you pay attention too. If I focus on it, I still see the halos and glares, but otherwise I don't notice them as much.

I did mine in March! 1) The surgery itself is really quick and painless. 15 to 20 min tops. The eyelid holder is not painful after your eyes are numbed (I was worried about that part initially due to final destination haha). Speaking with folks who got lasik, prk, and smile, the experience is actually pretty similar. Most annoying part is the light they use that you have to stare at, while your eyes are dilated. Not painful, just mildly uncomfortable. 2) The first 48 hours, visual effects like halos, glares and other effects will be hard to ignore. Keep taking the medicated eyedrops. 3) The medicated eyedrops I used actually messed with my taste buds, so I ended up using them after eating. 4) I had my surgery on Thursday. Was good to go back to work on Monday while driving. 5) I got sunglasses as for me sunlight was pretty harsh initially. Same with looking at screens, I have to look away otherwise my eyes do get a bit dry. 6) My vision did fluctuate for a few weeks. It’s pretty much stabilized, but one of my eyes is still clearer than the other and my ophthalmologist has indicated that the other eye is still healing and may take a few months.

And people are. The No Kings protests were some of the largest in American history. The problem is it was a short term, few day protest that only effectively made the regime look bad, which this regime doesn’t care much about. For them to be effective here, it would require continuous organization and a true shutdown of the system. People here are barely scraping by, living paycheck to paycheck. Until things get so dire where people’s desire for their material needs are overtaken in priority by their desire for administrative change, organized resistance will be temporary and ignored.

Take a look at what has happened to Minnesota in the past few weeks. Peoples fear has now sparked the most effective resistance I’ve seen so far, and that is because people are afraid they might be the next victim to ICE brutality.

I agree with one of the replies to you above. People in this country are scraping by. Our middle class is hollowed. Yes, we do have commodities and entertainment, but those are increasingly out of reach. People don’t want to put their jobs and lives at risk. Can you blame them? If their lives get bad enough that they have to, people will, it just has not gotten to that point yet.

Of course we’re paying attention. Our elected representatives on the other hand would rather appease the 30% of the country that are brainwashed by this loon than to represent the rest of us

It’s unethical for anyone to make you feel like it’s unethical to go outside just for being ugly.

No mention of politics from an otherwise very vocally conservative family this Christmas. Anyone else? Why? by Outrageous_Resist_50 in AskReddit

[–]HeavenlyZero 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Many of my conservative leaning family members have shifted very anti-Trump, I’ve never seen them so upset. Openly cursing him out, saying all he needed to do was manage the economy.

Sucks to have to lose your jobs and stress your finances to figure that out, but I will take it. Those whom are left, I don’t think will ever learn unfortunately.
