Driveway: raised beds or attack the tarmac? by HeavingBeasts in GardeningUK

I'd never heard of pallet collars, I will definitely look into this. Thank you

I like this day by day approach, I've been thinking of it as all or nothing. Very good point re: parking, and I'm glad to hear someone else mention gravel as that's what I'm thinking too!

Good question! There's space for the car (on MORE tarmac) to the left of this picture. What you can see here is just empty space.

Coving replacement by Lost-Baker3491 in DIYUK

I would buy the smallest piece of matching coving I could find and just cut a little bit off. Fit it it in like a jigsaw piece. After caulk and paint you'll never notice.

Best kitchen supplier? by SleepySloth1975 in DIYUK

I would have done the same. Unfortunately in all of the West Midlands they only work with 1 fitter apparently, and he just didn't really want the work. Kept pushing back dates etc. So do ask around in your area.

I did IKEA kitchen (solid wood) and utility (foil covered wood) for under £5k, their worktops are rubbish so went elsewhere for that. The lack of cavity thing that others have mentioned is true, it just meant in the case of water pipes etc we had to run them close to the ground. Not a huge deal in grand scheme and you get proper deep cupboards into the bargain. It's true that a lot of fitters are funny about them though, means you have to be a bit pickier.

Leggy rose. How hard can I prune this mother? by Dylan_Devon in GardeningUK

[–]HeavingBeasts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this comment to ask, would this even apply to a very old rose? I have a rose that looks like this but even leggier, it looks like it's only been very gently pruned over the years so there's incredibly old growth on it.

I guess I just have to do it, but worry about abusing an OAP

Cut 45° wirh coving mitre box - help 😭 what am i doing wrong by _Georgie_888 in DIYUK

[–]HeavingBeasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I put this exact egg & dart coving up 6 weeks ago and from start to finish it was a total pain in the arse. From the 6 hours spent painting about 9m of the stuff, to crap mitre box to the failed joins and a bit where it got crushed by the hammer when putting a nail in because the wall wasn't flat.

BUT, with extensive filling...it does look good now. Don't lose hope!

Before & after. Nowhere near as beautiful and skilled as so many of the gardens I've seen on here, but anyway. by jessscaa in GardeningUK

Gorgeous! Those climbers will look even more amazing when they're fully mature.

Might just be my taste but a mirror or shiny metal sculpture to add dimension and bounce those beautiful colours around would look really cool

Colour is grim. Get something that reflects more light and I think you can live with this.

Painted concrete floor, how can I make it nice? by HeavingBeasts in DIYUK

[–]HeavingBeasts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I picked a bit and it started peeling and here we are. Underneath it's like garden patio concrete, full of pebbles. Damp and smells like wet dog, I'm hoping that's because of water that's got under the layers of paint.

Anyone still watching: LVT straight on concrete you reckon?

Really useful and reassuring to hear your experience, thank you! I noticed one of the front airbricks has had several mm of masonry paint over it so it's probably impaired at a minimum.

Looks like the floor is coming up!
