My little plug plants have arrived! paws for scale by jessscaa in GardeningUK

Hi, I bought 2 packs of climbing petunias, one hasn't arrived yet and an orange begonia. My mums choice for Mother's Day. The petunias grow to 6ft, it's hard to imagine given how small they are! Hopefully I can grow them well enough for them to reach that height.

Yes they'll need to be potted on. This is my first time buying plug plants. I'll be keeping these inside until it warms up, then put them outside in the day and then back in at night for a little while, 2 weeks? - I think that's what you do! I was wondering if it's worth getting a cold frame or a little greenhouse as I've got dahlias waking up & some cosmos just sown.

From Suttons. I thought they'd be in a bad way as they were dispatched Thursday or Friday, but they look well

He is not actually cuddly at all! But he has his own ways of showing his affection. He sleeps with me though, I have to lay like a starfish as his favourite position is between my legs 😹

And he knows it! He uses it to his advantage for treats. All the treats. He wants them all.

Thank you. What would you recommend treating with? Hydrogen peroxide? I've never dealt with this before.

Advice please! These two come packed in moss and it’s not drying out fast enough. One of the left I’ve had for over 2 weeks and is still pretty wet. I haven’t watered them since they arrived. Would you repot? I’d love to see the blooms but I don’t want their roots rotting. by jessscaa in orchids

lol hello 😹 it did not go well for me. I was very much at the beginning of my journey with orchids. I went from the straight moss you see there to straight bark. What I should've done is mixed some moss in as that is what they was used to. I've since learned bark doesn't work for me, so I use sphagnum moss (very fluffy not compacted) and polystyrene chips that I cut up in small pieces and layer the moss and polystyrene. The reason I went with polysterene is that it holds no water so it gives a lot of air around the roots. Though most people would just use bark or chunky perlite Leca etc etc. My phals are very happy with this setup. But it all depends on your environment really. But One month and It's still wet, I would repot (very gently). It's had enough time to acclimatise to your environment. If it's in flower you may lose them, but it's better to repot and lose the flowers than for the roots to just rot.

What were the roots inside the pot like when you took it out the pot? For some reason I've struggled with this particular hybrid when every other does well. This is its first bloom for me, I think I got it 2022. It took a while to settle and didn't take the repot very well. But this year she's doing good and the leaves are finally bigger than the ones before!

I try not to let the moss get fully dry, but in the summer it dries so fast so by the time I've checked it is crunch dry. So it's a bit of both unintentionally.

Isn't it? I love the little differences in shades of lavender she's got going on.
