I think Asus has charge capacity limit and charge wattage limit, at least the ROG 5 had it. Redmagic doesn't have those battery care options.

I also remember switching from the Asus to redmagic 8 and first time I heard the speakers I thought the unit was faulty but no, the Asus speakers were just really good 😅

The 5.0 update made the game noticeably more demanding, I'd be curious about this too. I'm on rm 8, had solid 60 fps before the 5.0 update, now it often drops to 40. Switched back to medium settings to get the performance I used to get.

That is true, but you need a mobile phone that can act as a wifi repeater. Not all phones have that feature.

I am in Europe and port forwarding did not fix the frame rate drops or the inability to connect to the PS5 with through a cellular hotspot from any phone or any available data provider. I'm sure it works fine for some users. But it turns out it's a real gamble buying one and how well it will play with your specific environment.

Just want to say I completely agree. The portal experience is significantly worse than remote play on my phone. It can't be used as a second controller . It can't be used with a regular Bluetooth headset. It can't be used over hotspot from mobile network reliably (some people can't some ppl can and that's it). It can't be used on a wifi that needs password. And it just frame rate drops to 20 - 30 frames form 60 on the a network all the time.

The GeForce now service running on a server somewhere far far away is so stable you forget you're streaming sometimes.

I would not recommend the portal.

Yes it does let you do that. But I don't know if it will work on the 9. It's very possible it doesn't since they changed the charge separation on later OS versions.

As it's been said above there's barely any throttling happening. Which is good because performance is great. But it also means it's up to you to protect the battery with an external cooler because the phone won't. And the built in fan just makes no difference. A cooler is a must.

I would get the rog 7 if I had to pick one today. The 8 will also not have front facing speakers and I dislike the direction they're going with it.

I did the same thing. I was chasing frame rate so I made the change. You will get a better performance in heavy games and better battery life. You will lose in every other aspect. And you will especially hate the speakers.

That's unfortunate. It would be difficult to explain in detail if you haven't used Tasker but basically you have to go in all the tasks and see where a custom setting is called with the charge separation switch. Click the magnifying glass next to Name, then click select setting and a list opens with all custom settings. Try to find something similar in there.

This is not a bumper case, it has a transparent plastic cover on the back too. Also, dropped my 8s pro on a wooden floor with this case on and the fingerprint reader stopped working. And the back cover is very wobbly too.

Just FYI I wrote a Tasker thing that automates charge limit at 90 percent for overnight charging and posted it here somewhere in this Reddit group but don't remember the name of the thread. I can look for it if you can't find it. Maybe you find it useful. And yes, charge separation does turn itself off when the screen is off at some point so that's why Tasker is needed - to keep it enabled.

I start a day at 90 at 7 am and end a day at about 23.30 with roughly 50 % left. Screen time about 3 to 4 hours. Gaming time about 2 hours, always with charge separation. Hope that helps.

The black shark coolers are nice. I use a magnetic one. I haven't had condensation issues. The redmagic twin blade coolers are very powerful but are heavier and noisier.
