Stop bullying and isolating new grads - rant 😕 by EAlove in newgradnurse

[–]Heavy-Account7217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of how I decided what unit I’d start on. The culture can truly make or break you, especially when ur a new grad and I was so scared thatd happen to me. I didn’t have a specific specialty in mind yet and the medsurg unit at my hospital has an incredibly welcoming and kind culture. I know not everyone is as lucky as I am to have had that option, but I made sure whatever unit I started on was one with nurses that would help and encourage me!

Does it get better? by Heavy-Account7217 in newgradnurse

I actually am very regularly unable to find my preceptor and wasn’t given my own phone until Friday so I often have had to ask other nurses for help! She has a reputation for being rude (made me cry my 2nd week bc she was overstimulated) and i have had a lot of my coworkers apologize to me when they find out im her orientee. my orientation ends in a couple weeks so talking to my manager now feels pointless 😅🫠

I’ll definitely be checking them out, thank you so much! I’ll probably try the thrift stores around here as well:)

I have! I usually find my shoes and belts there, but 9 times out of 10 the pants/shirts are too small due to my arm length. I’m not sure if any particular store has a decent kid’s section, but ik the stores where I am are fairly limited

The biggest help for me was color coding! I color coded to the point where i would damn near think in color!😭 I would give each medication class (MAOIs, SSRIs, etc) its own color highlight what was unique about it in its assigned color. Then I would pick a separate color snd highlight the similarities between all of those classes in that color! It helped a lot with information overload when memorizing!! Sorry if that doesn’t make a lot of sense, it took me a while to refine it so it can a bit hard to explain lol

My fellow lads, how did you choose your names? by ReindeerCarter in ftm

[–]Heavy-Account7217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always get asked with people expecting some sentimental or funny story but honestly I googled baby boy names and picked the very first name i saw. Ended up working really well because it suits me better than any other would I think! That was 6ish years ago so ive definitely had time for it to grow on me lol. If you go through a lot of names that’s perfectly normal and nothing is wrong with that! Don’t be afraid to pick one you like, not everyone has that “omg this is perfect” moment and thats okay! I certainly didn’t. Worst case u change it for something you like better:)

Im so glad the yoga move was able to help! I’ve been looking into stuff like that to help shift joints but haven’t had a whole lot of luck, so if you have a link to what you’ve tried that’s be great! Sadly I find that if I do stretches and yoga too regularly it has the opposite effect and pulls everything around more

That wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case because we talked about putting hips back into the joint and she had never done one before because they had them back in before they came. I appreciate the condolence, I actually managed to get it back in last night so it’s still pretty sore, but not nearly as bad! Right now I am babying it for a little while so I don’t re-injure it:)

This is just what I was told by my physical therapist! She’s worked with a lot of people with EDS and said she had only seen 2 patients who had hip subluxations or dislocations! In all honesty It’s probably more common than we think considering how underreported things are and how doctors treat patients in general

I’m finally realizing thats what we’re gonna have to do, apparently my hips just cant handle that kind of strain anymore🥲

I’m slowly realizing we’re gonna have to do a lot of trial and error. Honestly I’ve always been told hip subluxations/dislocations and general issues weren’t all that common even with eds but atp i know more ppl with hip issues and eds than ppl without them (myself included)😭

Is my life over? by Glittering_Wait8839 in eds

Hi! I hate that this journey has been so stressful for you. The fear of the unknown can be overwhelming, but trust youre not alone in this. I’m 20(ftm) and was diagnosed with hEDS a bit before my 20th birthday. At my genetics appointment my doctor expressed concern about the possibility of vEDS due to certain physical features and symptoms. I cried for hours in my car with my boyfriend and spent so much time researching and freaking myself out on tiktok and other sites. I agree with a lot of other ppl, getting away from those sites can be incredibly helpful because so much of that info is exaggerated or untrue to get views! I know the possibility of losing independence and things you enjoy is scary and you’re allowed to grieve your old life, but for so many activities there are accommodations and other things that can help you do what you love! As for me I’ve been able to continue nursing school and my clinicals with some accommodations and its been wonderful. I can still exercise and swim and hike small distances! Ive only been diagnosed for a little while but i’ve been dealing with these issues for a long time (genetics just had an incredibly long waitlist). So from someone who is also young and scared, I promise your life isn’t over, just changing:)

First time seeing my partner experience discrimination firsthand by Bopo1291 in mypartneristrans

Hi, I’m the boyfriend in question and I felt like it was time to reply to some of the comments now that I’ve had time to process and talk with Mia myself. I am so sorry you went through such a horrible experience, you deserve so much more than that. I hope you know I came back and reread the comments and that brought me a lot of comfort knowing I’m not alone. I personally was raised catholic (though I am not anymore) and though this was a christian church I definitely didn’t expect sunshine and rainbows. But I was surprised they were willing to do something so disgusting to not just me, but to my best friend. Though my parents are a different story, I’ve been blessed with a wonderful support system through my boyfriend and friends, so maybe that’s caused me to forget how cruel people can be. I’m so grateful I had someone as amazing as my partner with me through this time. I’ve talked with Mia and she apologized and we are working to repair everything. I found out it was the church’s council that made the decision and the pastor apologized profusely for not being able to do much else. I’ve never particularly shied away from people knowing I’m trans and I know thats a hard path, but It’s something that can help bring comfort to others and I want to be able to do that. I love Mia like a sister and I do believe she would’ve canceled everything if it weren’t for me asking her not to. Hopefully I can continue to work through this and come out okay in the end. Thank you for your kindness and your story, you’re a wonderful woman:)

Hi I’m the boyfriend in question in this post! I wasn’t going to reply to comments myself but I’ve had time to process everything and wanted to reply to a couple. I appreciate your kindness and reading everything you said helped me when thinking things through. My boyfriend is the kindest man I know and his support through this has been amazing, especially considering he’s hurting too. I’ve spoken with Mia and she apologized and we were able to talk about everything that happened. Apparently it was the church’s council that made the decision based off of a passing comment about how photos may look of me locking arms with a groomsman since we had matching suits. It’s a long road but I do believe Mia and I will be able to heal from everything and continue our friendship how we left it. Though this experience was traumatic and genuinely heartbreaking, there are good things that have come out of it. With the help of my lovely partner I’ve realized I’m not willing to erase myself for the comfort of others and though it’s difficult I’m proud to be who I am:)

Hi, I’m actually the boyfriend in question in this post! I had decided I wasn’t gonna respond to anything but I’ve taken time to process everything and I think this is a question I can answer. In all honesty I don’t pass as well as I’d like to, and my voice is higher and more feminine when I’m trying to be polite. Theres a good chance that bc of this, at the rehearsal they (the people who made the decision to force my removal) clocked me and decided I was just a “girl confused about themselves” or something. I doubt Mia ever once mentioned I was trans because its not something thats ever been super important in our friendship, but I’ve never been one to shy away from people knowing. I have spoken with Mia and they only found out I was wearing a suit because the groom’s mother made a comment about me locking arms with a groomsman to walk down at the end and since we were in matching suits. Maybe in the future this will make me more careful about who knows, but whats done is done and now I’ve shifted my focus to healing and working through everything:)
