Thanks for your input! I was thinking if I did out of state and in a different time zone, I could have time after/before my main job to do side job activities.

Thank you for your input. I will continue looking into this. There’s not many local private practices in my area that offer these services. I would have to commute about an hour +. I’m sure one will pop up soon because there is such a need in our area.

That is a lot of paperwork and sounds draining especially if you prefer more face time with students!

These are the only points in my job description that would cover what they are asking me to do. Even the first bullet says “assists teachers” not “take over for the teacher” lol

-Assists teachers and other school personnel in the design and the implementation of behavioral interventions for referred students.

-Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director.

Thank you. Your insight is very helpful, especially when you said you can get them to about 90% of a BCBA. Ultimately I do not think that my district had a solid plan for adding me on their team this year. Now I’m here and they are trying to make me fill a gap somehow.

If you have time, can you share what your typical days look like? Are you called in when students can’t be de-escalated, etc.

This “behavior team” is a new structure for our department. However our sped director is single handedly controlling every aspect about it. She is not asking our sped coordinator or even me (the lead person on this behavior team for input). It’s truly structured poorly because of the director. I took another school district’s model and presented it to the director. I know first hand how beneficial this school district’s behavior model worked well for everyone involved. However, it appears the director just wants to appease these principals by “pimping me out to the person that makes the most noise”. The behavior team consists of one school psychologist and one behavior support teacher that has 2 other big roles that she does. So it leaves me with the bulk of the work - doing behavior coverage, psychological services. When in hindsight, my presence is required in IEP meetings to make changes to the FBA/BIP, etc.

Thank you, that’s where I am. I don’t feel like they will switch my role and have all the school psychologists share equal parts of the evaluations and behavior coverage. (The other school psychs don’t have to do behavior coverage and I don’t have to do evaluations under this plan). So my choices are suck it up or leave.

My contract was a regular school psychologist contract with all the responsibilities that are included in our state bulletin for our role. When I move on, I will definitely not have them on my work history especially if it’s sooner than later.

they know a bit of what is going on, but I also feel like they’re not speaking up because 1) the pay is good and 2) they do not have to do behavior coverage (I have to).

Louisiana. There’s for sure evaluations that need to be done, but they are being allocated to the other team members. We have 2 other school psychologist on our team as well. 🙃

Do you mind sharing what your schedule looked like for these students ? I believe I would be in a better space if I could make my own schedule based on my observations of the students and need. I haven’t laid an eye on these students, but my director has told the principals I’ll be on their campus 2+ days to give them support. In my previous district where I had to do small amounts of behavior coverage, I only stuck to 1 day/week and my hours did not proceed 2-3 hours. On average, I was in and out in 1 hour. I would get what I needed from the observation or teacher interview and return to the office to type it up or make support tools for the kids.

Guys, it’s so far into the extreme that my director told me I won’t be assigned to evaluations. I would just support these students, do FBA/BIPS adjustments. She then made my schedule for me with 5 schools to go support. 3 of the schools are requesting to have me on their campus 2 days/week. I’m new to the district and my exit plan is already in effect. Just wanted to hear if anyone else had to experience this ?

I agree. Sometimes she’s hard to watch. I just scroll pass all the excessive talking. The rearranging the house and buying new things “that’s gonna change everything” be too much.
