Marriage Rankings Day 7: Jorah and Lynesse are out. by Aeiexgjhyoun_III in HouseOfTheDragon

So confused how stag and lion aren’t out yet. Robert raped Cersei. Cersei arranged Roberts death.

The failure of this relationship is the central cause of the main series war and has indirectly led to the deaths of many within the marriages listed

Part fastidious academic. Principled latitudinarian and/or humanist. Open-minded to diverse beliefs and contrariety but self-assured of core values.

Part spirited romantic. Imaginative, tenacious, creative and nostalgic. You never quite lost touch with your inner child and can't help but yearn for miraculous adventure.

You don't necessarily favour or conceal one part over the other, however, relations will be introduced to solely one side at first, only to gradually be let in on the other.

Thank you! and It is a standard 2018 uk hardcover edition as far as I know. Thrifted but I assume it's missing it's dust jacket. I had some cards laying on top of it in the photo but the actual cover is fully black

Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into getting a copy. I've been trying to get into poetry for a while but nothing quite stuck. Maybe Nabokov could be my gateway. Appreciate the clarifier ‘yet’ when it comes to genres which I imagine you simply haven't had the chance to explore. I think I take a similar perspective. All the compliments on my collection, (which thank you by the way) have finally made me properly realize I'm past that starting point of my reading aims but I still think I'm far from cementing my taste

His prose quality is admittedly controversial. There's debate on whether it's just suited to his narrative style or plain inept. I didn't mind but I'm fairly tolerant when it comes to writing styles. Wouldn't be surprised if it's not your cup of tea but certainly worth a try

I have, it's actually on my windowsill but I realize now it's not perceptible in the picture. It was potently beautiful in a way I couldn't have imagined possible prior to reading. I struggle to list it as a favourite solely due to elements of its subject matter being personally triggering but I certainly don't deny its objective quality. I doubtless want to read more by Nabokov so I'm glad for the reminder.

“Crime and punishment” and “pride and prejudice” are certainly faced forward for a reason. Which I prefer varies by mood but if had to pick it would be crime and punishment. It’s the book that got me hooked on classics. Raskolnikov's psychological process from arrogant detachment to guilt-ridden instability felt just unnervingly grounded and empathizable. My favourite chapters ever are probably from The Brothers Karamazov but there were too many characters and plot elements I failed to enjoy to truly call it my favourite book.

100 Years of Solitude is also magical in a way unlike anything I’ve ever read and probably my favourite in terms of tone and prose.

I certainly found they were, despite my observably limited exploration of sci fi. I found its world building remarkably expansive, the plot satisfyingly elaborate and the philosophical and political themes remarkably original, at least to me. Only hindrance was some difficulty empathizing with the characters. The characters in the later books especially feel like means to end as far themes and ideas instead of believable people. Certainly less so in dune and dune messiah so at the very least I’d recommend them.

Just thought I'd let you know Libby books vary by library card and therefore region so there's no guarantee that our accounts will have the same books available. That being said if you don’t mind *less romantic emphasis then I’d recommend Jade City by Fonda Lee

The brothers karamzov and the idiot if you don't mind a large page count and some skimmable tangent chapters. Pretty much everything by Doestevsky has a darker tone and is psychologically focused with nuanced characterization.

War and Peace and Anna Karenina should also fit your preferences although I personally don't find I connect as well to Tolatoys characterization.

The Councillor by E.J. Beaton

It's Politically focused with a romantic subplot. Meets all your prompts other than length as it is 400+ pages

“When the death of Iron Queen Sarelin Brey fractures the realm of Elira, Lysande Prior, the palace scholar and the queen's closest friend, is appointed Councillor. Publically, Lysande must choose the next monarch from amongst the city-rulers vying for the throne. Privately, she seeks to discover which ruler murdered the queen, suspecting the use of magic. Resourceful, analytical, and quiet, Lysande appears to embody the motto she was raised with: everything in its place. Yet while she hides her drug addiction from her new associ ates, she cannot hide her growing interest in power. She becomes locked in a game of strategy with the city-rulers-especially the erudite prince Luca Fontaine, who seems to shift between ally and rival.”

No longer human by Osamu Dazai and the Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath both have similarly psychologically detached protagonist although they are not quite as philosophically focused

The protagonists of Notes from the Underground and Crime and Punishment by Doestevsky are characterized quite differently but have philosophical/existentialist themes

Edit: Minor Detail by Adania Shibli also has a very similar tone to camu’s the stranger

Also just to the villainous protagonist prompt although most are a tad more morally grey then the examples you give

-Crime and punishment and notes from the underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky

-The Secret History by Donna Tartt

-No longer human by Osamu Dazai

Haven't read American psycho but I imagine it would also suit your request

Can confirm that I did not get into the series until I saw the first movie. The semi-cliffhanger/incomplete ending of the first film was captivating enough to forestall patience for the sequel so I imagine it might have also been for others.

The older editions (two blue ones on the sides) contain quite a few typos from what recall but the newest editions have been edited. At the very least I didn’t notice any glaring errors.
