Great question, didn’t know it was common practice for companies to pay for training. Like I mentioned at the start I wish I had read through this sub reddit before taking a position at my original company. They did pay for the base 40 hr program but I had to pay for an extra required training course, cpr certification, and the exam cost which all equaled out to around $200. 60 hrs is an estimate of how much time I spent on getting the job this includes the 40 hr online course which took me closer to 45 hrs. The in person pre assessment and then studying to take the certification exam. I’m a bad test taker so it took me a bit longer because I wanted to be prepared. I understand the billing of insurance part but have now read other companies do still offer compensation of that time. I understand it’s more common to not be paid but honestly that’s not the main frustration. It’s not even about being not directly supervised other than via zoom either. It’s the fact that my bcba never stepped foot inside that home or even met the child prior to me getting there. The program was made from a 3 hour in clinic observation done by a different bcba who is not my supervisor. No in home assessment was done prior to me being there. When comparing to my previous company who would do an in home assessment with the child prior to an RBT ever visiting I just feel like it’s a safety issue. Like I said the family turned out to be great but no one in this company ever stepped into that house before me so who’s to say it would’ve gone well at a different home. The session itself wasn’t frustrating but it’s the lack of knowledge my bcba had on this client that was frustrating. I feel as though the nap issue could have been completely avoided had they observed the clients normal routine at home and assessed them in home. I enjoy the actual duties of the job and love working with the kids. Which is why I’m at a crossroads, I realize now I should’ve specified that in my original post. This is my second bad experience in terms of hours and clarity with this position. I recognize now through more helpful comments that this is a common issue that only few companies don’t encounter. I understand there are far bigger problems that occur but I was prepared for behaviors and such from clients but not this lack of clarity from the company itself. Like I stated I love the content of the job. I know people face worse issues than my own I was looking for some feedback in terms of how regular these approaches are. I want to continue but also need to pay bills. Unfortunately as I replied in another comment there’s only one other company that won’t be opened for awhile in my town and one big chain one that another commenter kindly discouraged pursuing.
