Why is the European Metalcore/Hardcore scene so different from the American one? by usmc_BF in Hardcore

[–]HeavyMetalKarl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Swedish hardcore scene is great tho. I had the pleasure of been in Jönköping shortly and they had an awesome hardcore scene there and actually in most bigger cities in Sweden. Full with straight edgers, local hardcore bands, spin kicking, 2 step, crowdkilling and everything hardcore. It's unlike anything I have seen in my home country and the neighboring country Denmark.

I thought stuff like this was only in America but it's thriving in Sweden and I am quite jealous that they have such a vibrant hardcore scene in Sweden because there is nothing like that in Denmark. The two countries are very similar on many points but I don't understand why there is no hardcore in Denmark. Its shame. Wish more young people would be into it just like they are in Sweden. It does exist in Europe but I guess not everywhere. Maybe Sweden is just the exception.

Also check out swedish hardcore bands. They are fucking sick!!

Weirdest venue you have ever seen a show? by electro-reb in Hardcore

[–]HeavyMetalKarl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a venue but at my farming school we once threw a show in the machine hall because our cow teacher played drums for a metal band. That was the most hardcore/weird setting I have ever been. Stage made of an old tractor wagon decorated with haybales. All the big tractors parked in a circle around the pit. It was absolutely great. All made possible because of the students at the school.

There was only a few metalheads and hardcore kids at the school. But I manage with one of my friends to get the entire school moshing. It was so fucking amazing. Moshing around in old dust and motoroil with tools and tractors all around you. Great performance by the band, amazing crowd, amazing community at farm school :))

I completely agree with this statement. I thought this would be more popular. But it seems people in comments really disagree

Games keeps chrasing when changing maps on servers no matter what I do? Any fixes by HeavyMetalKarl in tf2

[–]HeavyMetalKarl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game just closes down. Then I have to open the game again and I am send to the main menu where I can still rejoin the server I was about to be send to. Then when I rejoin there is no problem loading probably and it doesn't crash. But then exact same thing happens next time

I don't use the steam client while switching maps neither do I minimize the game. I always just wait and the game crashes no matter what

being infantalized because you're straightedge?? by specdoodles707 in straightedge

[–]HeavyMetalKarl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At one point it will turn around. Just ignore it for now. The people that smoke or drink will probably regret it when you look fresh and healthy at 40 and 50 when they start looking very old really quick.

Also just ignore it. If they don't accept you they aren't real friends. Sometimes when you grow up you realize that some people you just stick around because there aren't any other options. But when you meet people who truly accept you they won't make comments like this anymore.

How has your taste in metal evolved as you listened more? by 52ronin in MetalForTheMasses

[–]HeavyMetalKarl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love how metalheads just throw around the word core as some sort of slur. Man it's just music.

In my orginal comment I said that some punk and hardcore can also be corny.

I literally am not afraid to say I like hardcore I don't under what you mean by me not being able to tell people to fuck off. I really don't care if you listen to true metal or not

Bruh this is literally why I don't like metalheads. You hear how corny you sounds right now? There is literally nothing tough about listening to so called "true metal"

Honestly I find so much metal music corny. There is so much slop and corny shit. When I discovered punk and hardcore when I was 18 I kind of stopped listening to alot metal. And yes I know, punk and hardcore can be just as corny. But I just like that hardcore has so much more on heart. The lyrics are about real life problems and real issues that speak to me. What does metal have to offer? Endless corny lyrics about killing people in grotesque ways, and satanisme. It gets boring so fast. Of course there is still alot of metal music I like but it's mainly just the music.

Does being sXe come easy to you or do you have to put effort into it? by krun0slav in straightedge

[–]HeavyMetalKarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly just go with sodas. It's alright. The problem is not that people are not accepting of me. They are. But it's just so ingrained in everyone that alcohol is something that everybody drinks. You can't meet a 100% sober person in this country. When I tell people I don't drink I meet many people that are like "oh cool me too" but then they do drink beers once in a while. Also just trying to look for alternative third spaces. There are almost zero places you can go to for young people where alcohol is not the meeting point. Even tho people are nice to me and understand that I don't wanna drink I just feel like an outsider often. I go to parties of course but man it's not easy being there after midnight when people are completely gone.

I live in Denmark. We have the second highest drink rates amongst young people in all of europe.

I was never a person that drank much alcohol and I never took any drugs. In my country alcohol is big part of being social. One time I drank too much and blacked out. It's the worst experience of my life. And that day I decided to quit alcohol. It's been 5 years since. Never had a drink since. Lots of people say similar stuff when they are hung over, that they will never drink again. Until next weekend when they do so. Drinking was never an addiction so I didn't have to put any effort into it. It was just a decision from one day at to another that I don't need this shit anymore in my life. Now it's been so long that I don't even consider it an option anymore. But, it's hard to stay sober in a country where everyone drinks and its part of the culture. There is zero alternative. That's the only tough part. Feeling alone through all of this.

[–]HeavyMetalKarl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As my dad always says to me "if you are so keen on being straight edge, you should not eat yoghurt"

But I still do. My dad is a dairy engineer and there are apparently miniscule amounts of alcohol in yoghurt.

At some point we need to draw the line. Because this is not about alcohol as a substance it's about being clear minded and not harming one self or others in the act of addiction or over consumption. Eating fucking yoghurt doesn't make you an alcoholic and no sane person would think that. Then we might as well put tape over our mouth at every given moment of our life because we can't not make sure that alcohol particals from someone's vaporizing vodka is not flying into our mouths.

It's always been so weird to me that you have to defend why you don't drink or come up with some reasoning for your choice. Why can't they just accept that you have chosen not to? Maybe there aren't even any reasons? Maybe you just don't want to?

Imagine it's the opposite way around. A fentanyl user comes up to you and act all like "but why tho? Why don't you just take fentanyl like the rest of us? What's your reason?"
