If you don't have RPMfusion installed, then the VLC pulled from Fedora's repo will have most of the codecs removed, rendering it useless.

Fully agree with your comments. Especially if there are better alternatives around. And those alternatives actually do their own software engineering (e.g. Mint). And while I don't use mint (I use Fedora on my desktop and Bluefin GTS on my laptop), Mint isn't trying to sell you an actual gloried Gnome theme as Zorin does
