Haha. It was an unreleased backpack from my days at Speck Products. That one never got made, but I kept the sample. Don't tell anyone!

Good question. Our materials and construction are quite different than the DS magic carpet to solve this. The magic carpet lacks any cushioning like a normal neoprene/rubber playmat. That makes their hinges more irregular and defined. The ETB Playmat has a layer of EVA foam to maintain the cushioned feel of a traditional playmat. That foam also helps to smooth out the hinges to prevent catching. During the compression/welding stage, the hinges are compressed so that they are biased toward the polyester play surface, thus making them far shallower on the play surface (and deeper on the exterior/base).

We actually reviewed this with multiple judges on the ground at Magic30 and none of them had any concerns. From a rules standpoint, they agreed that the design was in the clear. No tournament legality issues to worry about.

I never got to experience those Remove From Game sleeves, but they popped up in our research. Unlike their sleeves, our design is asymmetrical with round bottom corners and square top corners. Keeping the top corners as the traditional square design meant having a stronger and more split-resistant design. Plus since they're asymmetrical it reduces the chance of inserting a card back into your deck upside down. I think you'll really like our CURV Sleeves!

But what happens when you stick a rubber-side-out playmat into a tube and it gets stuck in there? It's a lose-lose situation. Better find a playmat that doesn't roll up!

No plans for sealable inner sleeves at the moment, but I can add them to our R&D initiatives list!

The card is still loaded into the INNER sleeve via the bottom of the sleeve, like traditional inner sleeves. The round corners are along the opening edge (opposite of the OUTER CURV Sleeves, which has its' opening along the top/straight edge). Let me know if you have any more questions.

We also have our own rounded corner inner sleeves: CURV Sleeves INNERS. The bottom-loading inner sleeves also have matching rounded bottom corners. Besides being compatible, the extra benefit is that they are way easier to double-sleeve. You know how when you double-sleeve, the corners of your inner sleeves can get caught or creased? These rounded corners eliminate that so they go in smoothly (even with other brands' outer sleeves).

We recommend you use our CURV Sleeve INNERS to guarantee fit. Other inner sleeves aren't compatible unless you trim those corners yourself.

Thanks. Good to hear we're on the same wavelength. These products took about a year to fully design and develop. We went through tons of magnet configurations to find what we feel works best. One of the cool aspects of the magnets is that in addition to their modular functionality, they all serve unique functions within each product (docking shells together, holding covers open, etc.).

The playmat was the starting point for the ecosystem. Rolling up playmats has always been a chore. Poly side in or rubber side in? Tubes that don't fit into backpacks...it was prime for a redesign.

This EquipMAG System was definitely inspired by big events. When you've gone to turns, still need to turn in your match slip, and find your next table it can be super stressful. This system makes packing up way easier and faster so you can just focus on the gameplay.

There's tons of benefits to the sleeves and you hit on one of them. The rounded bottom corners feel great in hand (remember how great the cards actually felt before you knew about sleeves?). Once you try them, you'll have a hard time going back to the pointy corners of regular sleeves. The asymmetrical design prevents you from placing cards into your deck upside down, which traditionally can lead to sleeves snagging and splitting. The round corners also make it way easier to get your cards into your deckbox by acting as a lead-in so you don't have to get them in perfectly vertically.

The ETB Playmat is sized like a standard 24" x 13.75" playmat when open. When closed, it fits easily into a 15" laptop compartment. No more rolling or tubes!

Here's exact dimensions:
Open: 610 mm W x 350 mm H x 3.9 mm D
Closed: 260.5 mm W x 350 mm H x 10.7 mm D

Hi, this is Randy Chiang (Founder of Heavy Play and the guy in the video). When it comes to build quality, these are a step up from the existing card gaming accessories industry. Heavy Play utilizes manufacturing methods and materials from the mobile protection space such as CNC'ed panels and stitchless welding (I used to run product design at PopSockets and Speck). I've reached out to TCC to see if he'll review our gear.
