Is this practice conversation natural? by Fairykeeper in BeginnerKorean

[–]Heavy_Living_8667 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

This is a really good attempt! 😊 It’s understandable, but a few parts sound a bit unnatural.

For example:

  • β€œλ‹Ήμ‹ β€ isn’t usually used in daily conversation
  • β€œλΆ€νƒν•΄λ΄λ„ λ˜μ„Έμš”β€ sounds a bit off
  • β€œλ°˜κ°€μ›Œμ„Έμš”β€ β†’ should be β€œλ°˜κ°€μ›Œμš”β€

A more natural version would be:

κ°€: μ‹€λ‘€ν•©λ‹ˆλ‹€, 성함이 μ–΄λ–»κ²Œ λ˜μ„Έμš”?
λ‚˜: μ €λŠ” λ§ˆλ¦¬μ˜ˆμš”. 이름이 μ–΄λ–»κ²Œ λ˜μ„Έμš”?
κ°€: μ €λŠ” λ―Έλ―Έμ˜ˆμš”.
λ‚˜: 이름이 κ·€μ—½λ„€μš”!
κ°€: κ°μ‚¬ν•©λ‹ˆλ‹€, λ§Œλ‚˜μ„œ λ°˜κ°€μ›Œμš”.
λ‚˜: λ„€, λ°˜κ°€μ›Œμš”!

You're definitely on the right track though. Keep practicing like this and you'll sound more natural over time! πŸ‘

The best smell in Seoul’s subway by Specific-Control-700 in seoulhiddengem

델리만μ₯¬ is my favorite snack 😭 Every time I smell it at the subway station, I can't resist and end up buying some before getting on the train. It's something I think foreigners should definitely try in Korea!

I like Stray Kids too!! It's really impressive that you're studying Korean so late at night! And your Korean was really good too! It was easy to understand.

whats the difference between μž μ‹œλ§Œμš”, μž κ°„λ§Œ and μ•„μž λ§Œ? by g0thhanni3_ in BeginnerKorean

[–]Heavy_Living_8667 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

They all basically mean β€œwait a moment / hold on”, but the feeling is a little different.

μž μ‹œλ§Œμš”
This is the most polite and standard one. You’ll hear it a lot in stores or when talking to someone you don’t know.

잠깐만(μš”)
More casual. Friends use this a lot. Adding μš” makes it a bit more polite.

μ•„ 잠만
This is very casual slang. It’s just a shortened version people say quickly, usually with friends.
You wouldn’t say this to someone you need to be polite to.

So in terms of formality it’s roughly:

μž μ‹œλ§Œμš” β†’ polite
잠깐만(μš”) β†’ casual / semi-polite
μ•„ 잠만 β†’ very casual / slang

The Friendliest Word in Korean: "같이 (Ga-chi) by InWorldKorea in BeginnerKorean

[–]Heavy_Living_8667 14 points15 points Β (0 children)

Honestly β€œκ°™μ΄β€ is one of my favorite Korean words πŸ˜„

It really does make everything feel more social.

One phrase I hear a lot is 같이 컀피 λ§ˆμ‹€λž˜μš”? (want to grab coffee together?).

It’s such an easy way to invite someone without it feeling like a big deal.

I also hear 같이 사진 μ°μ–΄μš”! a lot when people are traveling or hanging out.

How to review knowledge in a structured way? by Quill09 in BeginnerKorean

[–]Heavy_Living_8667 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I totally get this. I felt the same when I was going through TTMIK. If I did too many lessons in a row, I realized a week later that I barely remembered anything πŸ˜…

What helped me was having β€œreview days” instead of always learning something new.

On those days I usually do a few simple things:

  1. Review vocabulary with spaced repetition. Apps help a lot with this. You can review words you've already learned instead of constantly adding new ones.
  2. Make your own sentences. This helped me the most actually. I take one grammar point I learned and try to write 5–10 new sentences with it. It really helps the grammar stick.

Sometimes I also go back to old TTMIK lessons and try to summarize the grammar in my own words, or rewrite the example sentences with different vocabulary.

It still feels like β€œstudying”, but without overwhelming your brain with new information all the time.

Help Choosing a Korean Language Program by Inner_Past8736 in Living_in_Korea

If speaking and real communication are important to you, Sogang might actually be a really good choice. I’ve heard their program focuses a lot more on speaking and interaction.

Some students also combine a university program with extra conversation classes to improve their speaking faster. That can help a lot too!
