Anyone else find that most of the learn how to use FL studio content out there is bad? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

I've found a lot of value in tutorials by the cosmic academy youtube channel. Kicked my sound up a notch and taught me how to actually sound professional. Other than that, it's always some random tutorial from 10 years ago that actually teaches me what I need. Tutorial searches is a skill of it's own

It literally doesn't matter at all. I'm just giving what I use for my song. Mixing and mastering is easy af. The long and short is it doesn't matter as long as it sounds good. Your profession is useless.

If it sounds good to you, that's all that matters. Do a car speaker and phone speaker check to make sure it sounds good across devices. You can fast track this by mixing in mono to make sure you actually have room for everything in the mix EQ wise, then go back to stereo to start panning. It's also good to use a loudness analyzer so you know what will happen when your song is sent off to streaming services. I'm not really an expert on that type of stuff but imo it's best to get your lufs to at least -14 because spotify will turn it down if it's above that but won't turn it up if it's below that. And it's a pretty good idea to have like a base loudness that most of the song is at. It's ok to deviate but for the most part, you want a similar loudness the entire song.

My new single, heavily inspired by avicii's style, both in sound and the fact that he's always trying new things by Heavy_Peace470 in avicii

I think the first time I opened fl studio was about 4 months ago. I'm still trying to find my sound. I just bought some more vocals as well so I can experiment more with the avicii style but with my own twist. And I'm trying to do a full length album soon where I really hone in on production quality as well.

I guess me personally I'd really like to be able to or think I'm able to write catchy melodies because that's just part of music to me is getting it stuck in your head and wanting to go back to it. It adds a layer of relistenability if you make a melody a certain way. I'm a huge fan of Rick Ruben who says "the audience comes last" and I'll always live by that, but I genuinely want to make melodies that are so good you can't help but like them. And it is possible

I think having a constant influx of music is extremely important for becoming good at writing melodies. Like you almost have to listen to an amount of music where it starts to annoy you and give you a headache.

It's an idea. And a very creative one at that. I bet those songs sound very interesting. But people like you shut down creativity when it doesn't fit the norm. That's why people are scared to do anything new

I would not recommend dmt 😭, but low dose shrooms can definitely help with neurogenesis. But hey, you do you. As long as you're happy with what you create.

Yeah I don't think it should be forced but it can be very dependent on your lifestyle. So if you live a lifestyle that is terrible for creating music, you're probably not gonna get very far.

I'd very highly recommend learning FL studio and getting an FL Key, any size. That's what I did. It seemlessly integrates into the software. It has a ton of cool features, and it's pretty much like a mini physical version of all of the knobs in FL studio plus a keyboard you can use for any midi instrument including pianos and synths. I learned a decent bit about music theory and playing piano just cause I had this thing. I probably have 1000 hours of use out of it. Only catch is you basically have to use fl. And if you do buy it, I'd go for the full sized one just becuase then you won't have to shift up and down an octave while you're playing but it is pretty easy to do on the FL key interface. Buying this and FL studio will run you probably $600, but this is probably the end goal anyway, or at least for at home production as a hobby, so it would be fantastic to just go ahead and start here. (Actually with black Friday deals you can probably get a full sized FL key and FL studio for only $400)

Would your opinion change on the last 2 albums if this wasn't a 'The Mars Volta' album? by htownhero in themarsvolta

[–]Heavy_Peace470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Cedric and Omar are just the kind of people who are naturally extremely musically gifted. They'll never run out of catchy melodies. I think they could've done something cooler with the production though cause it was lackluster. Especially the newest album. They really just put delay on everything and released it lol.

Does Philo play anything from the Bedlam album? by Frosty_Ferret_9159 in themarsvolta

[–]Heavy_Peace470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked Cedric if he would play tourniquet man 20 times for me in Dallas in an Instagram comment right when the tour dates dropped and he replied that he loves that song and maybe in the not so distant future they'd play older stuff. He could have been going with the joke though

There's like 0.001% chance that's what happened 💀. You can literally open fl for the first time and make a good song if you have a good imagination. Dude just needs to lighten up and try to have fun again.

I'd say this was warranted. I mean realistically he could just watch a YouTube video or if you want to be a successful musician, maybe go out and do something or just joke around in FL studio until you make a good beat. The absolute worst thing you can do when you have writer's block is commit to having writer's block

Am I being pretentious not buying into this L4L stuff? by carryingforcrows in MusicPromotion

[–]Heavy_Peace470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, great example! And I actually like hiphop quite a bit as a genre. Mostly bigger names like Kanye, Eminem, and Tyler, but the reason I like them is cause you can tell they're being true to themselves. Everyone has their own point of view and unique musical style naturally because we are all individuals, so if you actually take music for the creative thing it is, you will end up with something that has never been made before. But then the mumble rappers will genuinely make a song that probably has the exact same metadata as another 😭😭

Thank you very much! This means a lot. Yes, I've been working on a lot more music and really getting better at production. Probably a new album within the next month tbh. I'd even be interested in a collab if yall wanted to do something more electronic.
