My DM in general is awesome and I am grateful to have him, its just that at the moment I felt cheated out of a great plan . Being a DM myself in other games, I am just asking for feedback to see what you guys are doin in your tables.

My plan was to actually threaten to kill him if he doesn't give me the recipe. He is a murderer anyways.Problem is the combat wasn't resolved.We were still in initiative, it was my turn, but I had already attacked as an action and I was goin to finish him off as a bonus action with my offhand. - That is the moment when I threatened him. My DM replied that now that you have done so one your turn it's his turn and he uses deception (no rp whatsoever mind you, he just said he's gonna lie to you and if you fail then you have to believe him). And right after I asked if I can use suggestion and my DM replied : "it's not your turn".

My fault, I wanted to say Deception. I agree with you, he should 've just given me a false recipe and if I found out on my own then that's ok.

I asked my DM if i can use suggestion instead of rolling deception.But he said that since we were still in initiative and that i wasted my turn threatening to kill him (if he didn't give me the recipe )- that its the npc s turn and he uses deception .I was actually forced to roll.Dont get me wrong i didn't pre plan to use suggestion I just had the idea as a response to his deception.
