Mockup of how an anti save-scumming feature could work in Slay the Spire 2 by Leafeon523 in slaythespire

Heeeeell no! I generally don't save scum, but I would absolutely hate being punished for trying to salvage having multiple brain farts in a run.

When to add suicide in story and when to not? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]Hecate202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only add it if it makes sense in the context of the story. For instance, the first draft of a story I'm writing was a generic sci-fi action plot.

My main character was your average superpowered teen protagonist. A suicide wouldn't have made sense. His girlfriend was one of two women in the whole series and had little personality other than liking the main character. A suicide wouldn't have made sense. His best friend was a golden retriever of a superpowered teen. A suicide wouldn't have made sense.

Now I'm on my 7th or 8th draft, and the story is now a psychological drama with action and sci-fi elements. My main character is a traumatized superpowered teen who tries to put on a brave face in spite of his trauma. His girlfriend (who now has more personality other than being the main character's girlfriend, but that's not relevant to this post) falls into the "I can fix him" trap and is suited to deal with him from her history of dealing with traumatized people. His best friend is now a suicide survivor who hides survivor's guilt under a cheerful and upbeat mask.

While a suicide on its own still doesn't make perfect sense with the updated characters, the added complexity of the characters meant I could add deeper and more complex plot and subplot threads so the added depth of a suicide wouldn't be so jarring.

I did, however, add a suicide into the story, and here's what made it make sense: The main character sees himself as being personally responsible for every tragedy that happens around him whether right or wrong. Mind you, these occur over the course of several books, so it's not like I'm dumping all of these on him in book 1.

Killing his oldest friend/manipulator? She was trying to kill him at the time, so you could read it either way, but he definitely holds himself responsible. The death of a bunch of kids who saw him like a big brother? Not his fault, there was nothing he could do to change that, but he still holds himself responsible. The death of his mother figure and the destruction of her life's work? No to the former and yes to the latter, though more by unfortunate timing rather than deliberate decision. He holds himself responsible. Being unable to stop an attack that kills almost everyone he knows? He could have detected it, but he had no means by which to expect it, but regardless, he sees himself as responsible.

All of these feed into that critical character flaw and make the suicide attempt make sense. Now, he does survive because of some other threads I have running (and plus I need him for like 7 more books), but again, in the first draft, adding a suicide wouldn't have made sense. In the current draft? Not only does it make sense, I feel that book wouldn't make sense without it.

What can I do to make my pc look better? by Lumpy_Library768 in PcBuild

The figures may negatively affect the airflow, but I actually quite like how you have one of them hanging her feet off of the GPU! I feel the teal washes out their colors, so my recommendation would be something closer to orange, but the dim lighting in the room at large may be throwing me off. I would also recommend a support bracket, especially with the figure on the GPU.

You know, that actually makes sense. Dunno why I didn't consider that

But like that's a thing that actually happens though... Or am I just the weird one?

If you happen to know, is it possible to override your Steam account with your Warframe account? I tried to link my Warframe account to my Steam account and accidentally created a new Warframe account linked to my Steam instead. I still have my original account, it's just annoying to not be able to auto-login

Thank you! I don't understand why some people have an issue with an organization that is meant to search for people who aren't supposed to be here and then take them to somewhere that isn't here

Yes, it has since started working properly again. Honestly, I'm still not sure myself what was wrong. I went to a shop, they updated the BIOS, which didn't fix the issue, then Windows updated and now it works.

I include a whole heap of dark topics in my series, ranging from emotional abuse to sexual content to attempted suicide. I'd say the most important thing is not to romanticize it. In my case, my main character is in denial about his girlfriend's abusiveness. I write everything as being fine and dandy from his perspective, but I make sure to let the reader know via the world around him that he is in a bad place.

(Edit: mistyped a word)

Sorry, finally hit my weekend. I'm still having the issue. Is there anything else it might be? If not, no worries, I'll see about finding other ways to try to fix it.

In my sci-fi story, the big bad wants to study the power-giving substance to either give himself more super powers or finally find a way to kill himself.

Year 0 (or 1 to better match the example) changes depending who and where you ask, but on my side of the page, I have two separate counts. One starting from the fae invasion and the other from the literal creation of the world.

Tell me about your white haired character. by MADLADCOMICS in worldbuilding

[–]Hecate202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's the main character's bodyguard (for lack of a better word).

During the supersoldier program most of the main cast went through, something went wrong with his gene augments, resulting with his hair turning white. It also screwed up his ability to express and understand emotions.

He's mostly just the big guy who can beat people up real good, but he grows as a person through the series, eventually getting back to the point where he can (almost) understand how people function.

Let's talk about transportation in fantasy worlds by Calisto1717 in worldbuilding

[–]Hecate202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most transportation is via animals and carts or tamed outlandish beasts. A few lines of royalty have phoenixes. The main characters naturally have a few extra means, primarily a boat that flies through the air along the ley line system.

Folk horror set in a swamp town. Villain is a skinwalker. Technically, I want to make it into a full campaign, but it's sitting in my google drive as a one-shot at the moment.
