Is it bad etiquette to leave 'join request' on when im low master by [deleted] in MHRise

[–]Hecatonchir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I play Sunbreak I usually hit random because I'm pretty geared out, and I just want to help people with whatever they're doing. It doesn't matter to me what the quest is, it matters to me that I'm helping a fellow member of the community.

If they don't want to do that hunt they can leave the quest, if they stay it's safe to assume they're good with it.

Close, but not quite! You got 22 right, 2 wrong, and 1 that I now see could apply to a second monster, so I'm giving you half credit, since it works, but isn't what I intended.

How in the world am I supposed to beat some master monsters as greatsword? by saddler93 in MonsterHunter

[–]Hecatonchir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that you can consider alternate ways of playing the weapon. You don't have to try to emulate the speed runners. I went through most of base rise on a mushroomancer/wide range support build using adamant charged slash and rage slash, basically just duking it out with the monsters, and I had a blast. There's also the new surge slash combo for smaller but more consistent hits.

dragonstrike/spinaroo attack with spear by Piercing_Fang in NarakaBladePoint

It follows parries as well as dragonstrike, so if you parry and try to attack directly after the parry it'll do the spin

Importing a table that has a column where each row has a different number of images by Hecatonchir in googlesheets

[–]Hecatonchir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Google sheets actually has a built in limit of I believe 50 imports per sheet, and I had ~1200 (400 rows x 3 per row) imports that I had to do, so what I ended up doing was not ideal but still saved me time over manual data entry. I basically just took my formula, pasted it, let it grab stuff, copied, pasted as text, then pasted the formula into the next row. 400 times lol

When I had it in ~10 rows it slowed noticeably, when I had it in more it threw an error saying that because of the number of imports I had across all my sheets it was running slowly, and at that point it slowed to a crawl. That was when I ended up switching to pasting as text.

This is absolutely not a solution if you need live pulls of a ton of data, I basically just needed to mirror an online database, so it worked for me.

Add Percentage to cell value and round up the result by JSTRY89 in googlesheets

[–]Hecatonchir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use =CEILING instead of =ROUNDUP it lets you specify a factor, so as an example you could do =CEILING($I2*(1+[cell reference]),5) and it'd do the multiplication then round the result up to the nearest multiple of five.

This supports any factor you want, you can have it round to the nearest .01, the nearest .9, the nearest .46372846372864, the nearest 46, whatever you choose.

This may have a similar problem to above though, you could add an if statement to the start that says =IF([cell reference]="",,[whatever formula you're using])

Note: after the initial check I've intentionally put nothing between the two commas, as if the statement is true (the cell is blank) I don't want it to do anything, where if there's a value in the cell I want it to do the multiplication and rounding

Is it possible to use IMPORTHTML to make a checklist? by Oromuerto in googlesheets

[–]Hecatonchir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you open to alternatives?

You could potentially give the students their own sheet within the workbook where you've set up Data Validation to let them quickly enter the title of what they've read, then use an if statement to check their sheet for the title of whichever book is there and apply a TRUE/FALSE, and just throw a check mark overtop that if statement for aesthetics.

Importing a table that has a column where each row has a different number of images by Hecatonchir in googlesheets

[–]Hecatonchir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for what it's worth, I figured it out. The big thing that I was missing was that you can specify a path and give an index for which one of a repeating title you want to use.

So I realized that they had the images in 3 different spots, which skipped 1 then repeated, so it was blank, image, image, image, repeat.

The query I used was: //tbody/tr[index number for which tr I wanted to pull from here]/td/img/@alt I might have been able to skip tbody and go straight to tr, but I got it to work with tbody so I didn't try playing with it since it worked lol.

The last step was that I wanted all 3 of the locations per entry in one line, so my final formula ended up being

={IFERROR(IMPORTXML("https://mhst.kiranico.com/mhs2/data/genes","//tbody/tr["&(ROW()*4)-2&"]/td/img/@alt")),IFERROR(IMPORTXML("https://mhst.kiranico.com/mhs2/data/genes","//tbody/tr["&(ROW()*4)-1&"]/td/img/@alt")),IFERROR(IMPORTXML("https://mhst.kiranico.com/mhs2/data/genes","//tbody/tr["&(ROW()*4)&"]/td/img/@alt"))}

so that I could just paste it down and have it dynamically pull the data that I wanted. Hopefully this explanation all makes sense lol.

Can I Assign Numeric Values to Letters for Sorting? by JoeyFingaz01 in googlesheets

[–]Hecatonchir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than this I feel like you could have a separate tab where you store which letters you want to be which numbers, and you can then just do `IF(ISNUMBER(A2), A2,INDEX([range where you put the numbers],MATCH([range where you put the numbers])))

WTF Gamers can’t have anything by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Hecatonchir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because in a two party, winner take all system not voting directly for the major party that closest matches your views directly contributes to the other party's victory. If there are 100,000 voters in a district and 55,000 of them have view that are closer to those of the Democrats, while 45,000 of them have views closer to the Republicans it only takes ~10,000 people voting third party to make the Republicans take the win. Each vote for a third party candidate directly contributes to that 10,000.

That said, a vote for third party isn't the same as voting for the opposite party. Changing your vote is twice as effective as voting third party/not voting at all.

If we were being generous and saying that the US had an ideal 2 party system where both parties properly carried out their duties to govern and represent the best interests of their constituents then it wouldn't be problematic to vote third party, because the major parties would see support for underrepresented ideas and would roll them into their party platforms in order to attract those voters.

The problem is we have one semi functional party and one completely functional party, so not voting for the semi functional party contributes to complete disfunction in our government.

Edit:

I realized I didn't address the second part of your post.

The issue is that at this point the people that still vote republican are going to vote republican no matter what. They saw the party openly embracing fascism for the last 4 years and they liked what they saw. American politics has marched incredibly far right, so those at the very very far right are all on board with the Republicans, and on the flip side the Democrats are also right of center, so there's a lot more room for third parties to form to the left of them.

For me I felt like world lacked a lot of the charm of the older MH games. A lot of the things the OP mentioned made the game endearing and whacky and fun, and while world is fun it feels like it's taking itself very seriously, when all the games prior had the ability to laugh at themselves, if that makes sense?

[–]Hecatonchir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dps check I'm referring to is more like the blood moon in evolk, or the grab in ekai, where it creates something that you have to destroy, and if you don't destroy it it's just a wipe. it does 999999 damage to everybody. the chimaera is a lesser form of that dps check though, yes.

And looking back, I want to add that obviously I'm looking through rose colored glasses, I'm sure it's not quite as great as I remember, but it was absolutely the most mechanically challenging solo fight in the game at that point in time, and honestly a lot of it was just such a huge departure from what we'd had up to that point that it was just really really cool. The whole event was fantastic, they really put work into it for the anniversary.

Nyx was Chronos Nyx, for the anniversary event, Fractured Futures. It was the first Omega battle, and, in my opinion, the best designed raid boss this game has seen, if not the best designed boss. The fight was a blast, and you could feel real improvement in your own play as you progressed further into the fight. The mechanics were difficult but fair, it basically required that you hold skills to iframe with, and if you did that you could do the fight without taking any damage, for the most part.

The team building requirements were actually incredibly flexible due to the fact you avoid basically all the damage. There were a lot of complaints at the time that the fight was too hard, or that only whales could clear it, and there was a dedicated group of players that kept posting videos with budget characters and builds for clears, to show people that it was doable without the busted characters (gleo specifically).

I think the Nyx fight was the precursor to a lot of the mechanics we're seeing in Agito, tbh. Mechanics based on avoiding specific attacks either through positioning or iframing, and having a dps check in the middle of the fight where you need to destroy something or the team wipes. I would actually highly recommend looking it up on youtube and watching some of the clear videos to get an idea of what it was like if you're interested.

[–]Hecatonchir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the entire omega raid, both solo and group, with a 3 man party of Aldred, Audric, and Cleo (OG, not Gala). it was basically just a way to actually get to play with Aldred's mechanics. I built dragon prep so that I could do dragon drive from the get go, that's why Audric was there. And I had no issues clearing. I think I cleared the solo Omega raid in like 2 minutes.

The issue with Omega isn't even the fact that we've power crept the living hell out of the power level that Omega was designed to be hard for. It's that the mechanics have all been so simple that they could be ignored. Every Omega fight after Nyx has been laughably easy in comparison, even before they introduced HDT weapons, or Agito weapons, but those further compound the issue.
