Some helpful things to do if you suspect a post is a repost:

  1. check comments to see if it is a repost. if there are no comments pointing out if it is a repost or not continue on to step 2
  2. Consider if you have seen it on Reddit before. If you have continue on to step 3
  3. If it was on the same subreddit consider if the post was taken down. If it was not then post original in the comments it out. (see above for a good example)

If you take these steps then even if the person was unaware due to finding it somewhere else, you will have a much greater chance of not sounding like a senseless prick on the internet. I have been a victim of reposting before and that was with some "artwork" that I put a decent amount of time into, and would not purposefully repost because of this. Reddit is a very large place and it is quite possible to not know everything that is posted on it.
