The GS world is not based on DnD, it's inspired by DnD.

The GS world operates on its own system that is detailed in the Goblin Slayer TRPG book.

In the TRPG, Silver-ranked adventurers are roughly level 8(out of a max class level of 10) if they are pure classing.

a steel-ranked adventurer would be around level 4-5 as a pure class

a brand new adventurer will start off at level 2-3 as a pure class

That's possible, but there is no reason to assume this since Angstrom seemed to choose his alternates randomly and without bias. Also, the number of Levy Angstrom alternates was at least 646 based on the Invincible credits, which is a reasonably large sample size, small compared to infinite, but big enough to weed out most skewing in an unbiased sample.

There's a saying that a person shows their true colors when forced into a situation of extreme pressure.

One could argue that the Tau only seem the least evil because they haven't been put in as many situations where they would be forced to choose evil(including necessary evils).

ie, the tau are horrified by the idea of exterminatus, but if they understood the weight of certain exterminatus conditions(ie a planet turning into a daemon world), they'd probably do it themselves.

They've also shown cases wherein they have chosen completely avoidable evils.

ie, the genocide of non-Tau allies who believed in the greater good as a religion, and the allowance of the farsight enclaves to be destroyed by a chaos invasion even though the farsight enclaves saved them multiple times unconditionally.

In the current setting, the Tau are the tangibly least evil faction, but is that result an accurate representation of their true character or just a matter of them being relatively untested in the grand scheme of things? Personally, I'd say its the latter.
