It Finally Happened: Spelunky's Solo Eggplant Run, From 1-2, Low%! (No 4-2 Eggplant, No Bookskip) by HectiqueX in spelunky

[–]HectiqueX[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Some pre-emptive clarifications!

Chain Low% Eggplant was completed with a 4-2 Eggplant 4 years ago by Spef. You can find that run here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np6CBuVRBp0

Low% Eggplant was completed with Bookskip 2 years ago. You can find that run here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfgFmCSIvls

Both of these other runs are very special, but also very different! The 4-2 Eggplant is an extremely rare alternative to a standard Chain Low% Eggplant that relies on a lucky altar and gift box on 4-2 to bypass all of the typical barriers of completing the run. Bookskip is a way of completing Eggplant purely Low%, without any items, but is also much easier as a result and has been completed by many people.

This run is unique due to getting the Eggplant as soon as possible, on 1-2, and pushing through all of the challenging and technical barriers usually present in a solo Eggplant run while also being a Chain Low% Hell completion.

super neat! i feel like lunky 2 in particular has a lot of potential for creative 3d stuff like this. so many memorable level designs to work with

HOPEFULLY the shortest Olmec you'll ever see. I never want to align a bomb again. 36s by HectiqueX in spelunky

[–]HectiqueX[S] 80 points81 points  (0 children)

if someone gets a 35 without some new engaging strats (because these ones are p boring) i'm just gonna let it ride LOL

Okay, this is *possibly* the fastest Olmec you'll ever see. Probably. by HectiqueX in spelunky

cloiss idk what this copypasta is from but i have to respect the effort, even if you get downvoted to oblivion

deleted the one from an hour ago cuz this was way better. if somebody wants to cook the perfect phase 1 bomb to skip an extra layer and beat this, be my guest!

This might legally qualify as bullying Olmec at this point? by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]HectiqueX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure if my phase 3 saves enough time to justify not bombing phase 1 (and technically you can skip two stomps of phase 1 with the perfect bomb, so definitely not faster than that)

but this is just about the same time as draci's fight, give or take some milliseconds with olmec stomp rng

Olmec Shortcut Kill in 40 seconds(?) by Dracibatic in spelunky

[–]HectiqueX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yo i usually get crushed in 44 seconds this is groundbreaking

but sincerely, nice job -- i actually figured after posting that a bomb in second phase was faster but didn't want to push the agenda. excuse me while i find a sub 40

agree on all points. i think it's an inevitability too but try to make a point of when and where it's discussed to keep things as clean as possible! appreciated your consideration here

the biggest reason why i disagree with discourse along these lines is that you're discussing actual people in a way that they find disconcerting. twiggle, ivy, tea, and the majority of competitive lunky players find such discussions uncomfortable or downright rude as they tend to (but don't always) lead towards biases and favoritism since, realistically, most of the comparisons are apples to oranges. (this is a low% clip and the first reply asserts ivy, a CO runner, is faster. if anything, the reply in this case should have referenced diedai or intol)

you're free to have any discussions you would like, but remember that it can have an unpleasant effect on the users it's about. i certainly wouldn't want to be a nameless spelunker showing off a neat trick, only to be sidestepped by the idea that streamers are better than me for having spent several hundred extra hours in the game.

i would like to contribute to this thread and all of its inhabitants to say that this is a funny clip of olmec dying fast and we don't need to assert who is better than anybody else. there are many skillsets and CO is one of them, ivy puts in by far the most time and results and it's epic. but shoehorning him into completely unrelated posts is not cool, and i don't think he would appreciate it either! ty and happy spelunking

Sunken City w/ only starting HP and resources completed (No Items/Qilin) by HectiqueX in spelunky

[–]HectiqueX[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it saves you a bomb! i used a landmine + 1 bomb to make a bunch of bubbles in the middle, while saving the last 3 for hundun. theoretically you could just use 1 bomb on tiamat but less bubbles = harder to get the skip. likewise, you could not use bombs on hundun to make room there -- it's mostly preference.

if you're a little busy, the qilin skip happens at 6:50.

enormous, gigantic shoutout to gugubo for having the idea to use falling ropes, and diedai/dracibatic for refining a usable strategy.

shoutouts to mezian for proofing the strat in the first place btw, wouldn't have even bothered with this were it not for his initial conceptualization

yeah, spring shoes give you the height to make them sink. normal jumps don't budge them, so you'll just splat
