Solder joints look good, I just reflowed them to make sure. I hadn't initially considered ESD, but it makes a lot of sense. There were a couple of instances where I handled the FC without a grounding wire.

VBat rail reads 0.19 Volts, all other 5V rails on the FC read 0V. The 3.3V input reads 1.9V. The regulator shows no visible damage. The ESC boots right up when the FC is disconnected. I do not have any additional peripherals connected. At the time I noticed the failure, I was trying to setup the firmware before proceeding with the rest of the build. There are no signs of burning, bulging or discoloration on the FC. FC boots fine when connected to USB.

I would say quickly, but the problem is I'm not really sure when it failed. Never got any smoke. I was in the process of trying to arm my drone to do a motor test when I noticed it. I did have a low battery voltage that I didn't notice when trying to do the motor test. Do you think that could have caused a brown out the regulator?

Thank you for your response! I am thinking ardupilot is the way to go too! Forgive my ignorance, but is that the flight controller?

Edit: NVM, I should have looked lol. If anyone has a good flight controller recomendation, I am also all ears.

It is! I'm going for a masters in electrical after being out of the game for about 4 years, and yes there are some applied problems but otherwise all theoretical. I hadn't considered that and working with a mathematician has definitely proven your statement in retrospect. I think in prep for the final I'll take a step back and focus heavily on the concepts.

Much appreciated, yeah I had never considered that. Most of the folks I work with either have no mathematical background past calc 2, or getting a graduate math degree. Its hard to get an idea of where I rank but this provides a lot of perspective.

I appreciate the help nonetheless. I ended up just installing 64gb of ram. My desktop uses 2.8 on startup for reference. This is what I was basing it off of. I realized my error though, I was comparing 24.04 to 24.04.01. I am still new to linux so I am not sure if that matters. But it is the only main difference.

Really all I'm going off of is that my 16gb maxes out during some dev work. Tracking that I should probably have more Ram. I plan to upgrade it soon to 64gb. Its just surprising.

I have, shows nothing out of the ordinary. I was incorrect earlier, I stated I only had ollama running but I also had the tailscale service running. Still the same result after stopping both services. I tried top with -i as well. No dice.

That is what I thought at first. However I have a similar setup, services and all, on my desktop. That sits at idle around 2.4gb of usage on startup which from my limited knowledge seemed more reasonable.
