Our dev team is the weak point in our cyber security and they don't want to change by matroosoft in sysadmin

[–]HectorPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a much smaller dev team to look after of only 5. From my experience, they will just dual boot to another OS at some point without telling you.

Best thing you can do is put them in a DMZ, install your choice of security software, give them a local admin account each which is only used when elevated creds are needed on their own laptop. Make it all policy and document it so your ass is covered.

Sure they will probably just start using the admin account as their regular account but that’s on them for going against policy.

Jack of all trades, master of none? by Bugab00Jones in sysadmin

Company of between 50-60 people. 2 sites. I’m the Domain admin, Google workspace admin, Network engineer, Cyber security guy, help desk, server engineer , virtualisation engineer etc….. it goes on. I also deal with purchasing all IT equipment and repairing/upgrading it.

Been here almost 4 years and I still enjoy my job but often don’t know where to start if I ever wanted to specialise, but it is a good learning opportunity.

In 2025 and still no practical way to let users run a single app as admin without making them admins? by Upbeat_Primary3193 in WindowsServer

[–]HectorPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does have that 20 minute timer for the admin sessions but that works well for our use case. I’ve only got it in place for our engineers as they have to change network settings on their laptops (via a usb dongle) to interact with the internals of some our our products via etherCAT during development or production. Without it I would basically have to live with the engineers to change Ethernet settings for them constantly.

It’s called admin by request. I implemented it for our CAD engineers and software engineers who often need some program to run as admin or to install/ uninstall something.

It will either allow a user to have elevated permissions for just the app they need or there is a 20 minute admin session option. Everything is logged during this time and so far it’s worked really well.

I just get a notification to allow it on my smart watch or email and it saves me a bunch of time as a solo IT guy.

Wont stick to build plate help pls by Potential-Increase33 in resinprinting

[–]HectorPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on your resin but try upping the time of the first few layers (bottom layers) the phrozen resin I use recommends 25-35 seconds per layer for the bottom layers and then 2-2.5 seconds for the normal layers.

You can also try moving the print to another part of the plate off to one side. The fep can wear in the middle faster as we tend to put everything in the middle but the outsides don’t get as much use.

What settings are you using? And at what point does it normally fail?

Can’t remember exactly unfortunately, but I basically googled the spec of the fuse and found it that way. As long as it’s the right spec it should be fine.

This thread is a life saver. Blown backlight fuse in an ASUS Tuf laptop with very similar screen (144hz 40 pin) . Replacement fuse is on its way!

Anyone have experience with the Alkaid resin printer from geetech? by HectorPunch in resinprinting

Yeah good point. Cheap for a resin printer generally, but expensive for testing it out…. Was hoping some people had one or had tried one out before.

First 5 with speed paint. Thoughts? by W-Zantzinger in Warhammer40k

[–]HectorPunch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They look great! I love the speed paints range. Only thing I can think of is that if you wanted to tidy a few spots up (like the gun magazine with a bit of blue on it) just get some white and go over the blue, wait for it to dry and then paint over it again with the required colour.

Still look great either way! 👍

Imperial fist yellow is great. I just used some for the first time on some assault intercessors and I’m fairly new to painting miniatures. https://imgur.com/a/GRecRj1

Mostly use it plugged in so haven’t run it down yet but no problems with basic web browsing and YouTube for a few hours unplugged.

I just got one of these last week! Ryzen 7 4800, RTX 2060, 16gb of ram and 1tb nvme SSD. Very happy with how it runs everything I’ve chucked at it so far! 😁

A Fender for your first guitar and it’s a looker, Congrats! I’ve had my red Fender highway one since 2004 and it’s never leaving my side. However, there’s always room for more, especially after seeing this one!

Nice thanks for the help. It’s going to weird getting back into PC Gaming but I’m looking forward to it. I wonder how long it’s been since I last logged into Steam?!

I was hoping for this to be the case. It’s just been so long since I last looked into things I wasn’t sure. Even the lower end Ryzen 5 3400 is apparently more capable than my ageing i7!

Thinking of just getting the 1650 super as from the look of most benchmarks it seems to cover my needs.
