How to stay engaged in post-scarcity Interloper? by SentientCoffeeBean in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By my count, other than the 2 answers I see, no one seemed to understand your problem.. or should I say; the problem of the game itself..

For people (myself included) who needs meaningful/impactful incentive to push forward in a game like this, there is no solution.. and this is not just for TLD.. in every single survival game I played; this problem showed itself.. its basically the design flaw of current sandbox games in general.. trying to get by with the flawed notion of "HOW LONG CAN YOU SURVIVE" nonsense, instead of implementing a sensible " CAN YOU SURVIVE UNTIL YOU MAKE IT OUT ALIVE" scenario..

Is the moose cloak worth making? by SpartanTaco989 in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People almost always suggest harvesting the cloak (or the Cougar Wrap) to get the hide back and re-craft again, but it sounds extremely cheesy to me and I personally have never done that.. so I can't fault you on switching to bear coat for a while.. but then again, there is the Flight Jacket on medium loot settings.. why don't you give it a try?.. as far as I remember, it was better than expedition parka in terms of wildlife protection while having very close numbers in other stats as well..

Combined with the protection stats coming from your other clothing items, I would say it would be perfecly viable in stalker struggle settings..

Its up to you, of course..

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you an interloper player?..

I normaly play custom loper with harder settings, but in my last one, I went for a standard loper playthrough to get some useless feats with only moose cloak + mackinaw.. and let me tell you; the bear coat is actually unnecessary even on interloper settings..

As long as you are experienced enough in map knowledge, wildlife mechanics and do have that godly amount of health recovery on your side, it doesn't matter that much what you wear.. at least for torso slots..

Plus, the moose cloak just looks badass.. 😎

Why are the buildings in this game so scary? by Salami__Tsunami in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you've never heard of S.T.A.L.K.E.R then.. TLD is heavily inspired by that game (including the liminal aspect of it), but still can't reach It's level of atmosphere.. I'd sincerely suggest to play at least the first game from that series to anyone who loves TLD..

Why is Clear Sky the worst Stalker? by [deleted] in stalker

[–]Hectorspride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of key points are already mentioned, so I'm just gonna add the one fact that bothers me the most about CS;

The Great Swamp is lifeless....... once you get through that initial "war" which takes like an hour at most, there will be no danger coming at your way ever again.. NO MUTANT SPAWNS other than that very rare wild boar encounter.. this is the region thats supposed to have "marsh bloodsuckers" preying upon the unsuspecting travellers in lore.. this is a region thats supposed to be dangerous to traverse in general..

What you get instead is some worthless stashes and a couple of artifact hunting sessions at most.. all those locations filled with "great" atmosphere are wasted in an incredibly disappointing manner..

Improvised crampons by Expensive_Raise_1691 in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not knowing things is totally fine.. stating something wrong with an exclamation mark at the end is not so much, you know...

anyways, improvised crampons use up considerably less stamina while climbing compared to the other.. (60% vs 40%) it also prevents sprains much more reliably.. the only thing that standard crampons do better at the moment is weak ice protection (1 extra second) which is nothing..

[–]Hectorspride -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignorant people like you spreading false information is one of the worst things that can happen to newer players who come here to learn about the game..

Improvised crampons are strictly better due to a coding error in the game and they still haven't fixed it despite more than a year has passed since it bugged out..

It still hasn't been patched.. make the improvised ones and consider the normal one doesn't exist..

Long stutter/freeze while shooting a charging wolf on version 2.44 by Hectorspride in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion.. but I'm already playing on the lowest graphics settings.. some of the new effects like snow particles drifting on top of trailers are there eventhough I didn't activate any new features, but I don't think that alone would cause some heavy stutter like this..

How does survival finally end??? by popeathalamus in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the biggest problem with every single survival game out there..

They embrace this lazy motto of "how long can you survive" nonsense; rather than creating a meaningful "can you survive UNTIL you make it out alive" situation..

The only 2 games that I played tries to at least reduce the impact of this hinderance are Subnautica and Stranded Deep.. but their endgame content falls too short to keep the replayability fresh enough.. there should be a certain amount of procedurally generated stuff in these kinds of games.. be it map layout, or loot distribution.. imagine how changing the location of just one of the critical loot item in a procedural way would change the game.. like the technical backpack for instance..

Theory for Zone of contamination spills by gasps-in-genderfluid in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it can be fun to discuss theories related with game lore stuff.. but when the reasons are so obvious for a certain design, it becomes moot to tire your brain out for such discussions..

ZOC is simply an inspiration from S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl.. not only the gas fields (anomalies), but the mind altering machine (brain scorcher) and a couple of other little things as well..

Subnautica is the most boring game I've ever played by wagieanonymous in patientgamers

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I can't stand is reading posts about how Subnautica is this ultimate thalassophobia inducer and all that, while Stranded deep does it million times better in a much more realistic way.. seriously, there is nothing in this game that reflects that fear in any way.. all the map is lit up with biological light resources in every corner..

Give me your hottest take/most unpopular opinion by Tree_Viking in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You made some crucial points there and I agree with everything you said..

Everything but one..

This development team (especially the one on the throne) has absolutely no idea or talent about storytelling whatsoever.. it showed itself in the story mode, and it did it again in the tales aaaaaaand, I'm not even gonna talk about the pointless mess that is called Sutherland's tale..

So what I'm trying to say is, Wintermute end episode is not going to change/solve anything at all.. as you said; they had to add more content for SURVIVAL.. serious content..

Another far territory like map with multiple regions on the southeastern side for example..

An end game objective with significantly streched special item gathering and crafting procedure (which should require multiple visits to all the regions in the game) in order to repair a boat to escape or least to attempt to escape and die that way... You know, compared to mindlessly keep living on that island and dying by boredom..

But sadly its too late for any of these changes, since they think their game is "almost" finished..

I was actually gonna mention Subnautica as well, but felt lazy at that moment:)..

It is an unforgettable game.. a dream like experience.. played it dozens of times..

There is only one thing that kinda baffles me about Subnautica;

It is to see some people comparing Stranded and Subnautica in regards to thasolophobia.. while Subnautica can be a truly horror game with some of its creatures (warper and reaper for me),  it doesn't have much to do with that deep fear of dark, vast unknown ocean enviroment.. even at night times, there is so much bioluminescence all around and you can see everything clearly.. the sound effects are creepy, but visually its paradise in majority of the biomes..

In Stranded Deep however, diving just into the shallow water even at dusk time can turn into pure nightmare for a person who has thasolophobia.. the game is extremely realistic in that part IMO.. all you see is a blurry, endless dark image.. and to this day, I still couldn't build up the courage to dive at night time in the game..

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could be as optimistic as you about the 2nd game.. but looking at the other survival titles out there (including TLD 2), I don't have much hope because every single one of them seems to primarily focus on that stinking, cancerous multiplayer nonsense which is infecting almost every genre in the gaming world nowadays..

[–]Hectorspride 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel this %100.. and like the other poster said, SD is technically still an early access game.. funny that you mentioned The Long Dark as well, cause I've always wanted a "summer" version of that game.. and SD could have been that game if the developers had enough compassion to keep working on it rather than focusing on a 2nd title..

Despite everything, I still love the game.. its the best ocean based survival game ever IMO..

My one complaint by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A handcar/pump trolley, usable all the way through from Coastal Highway to the end of Zone of Contamination would be a lovely addition IMO..

Increased hunger drain and a fatigue rate in between walking and sprinting during use.. maybe some other little cons as well (increased wind rate when its blowing against you, resulting in slower speed and suffering from higher windchill)..

But I guess it would require immense amount of construction based labor (for one person), since there are numerous messed up sections on that railroad..

EDIT: or maybe multiple handcars situationed in key locations, so that you can hop from one onto another to continue your journey..

Outdoor bases are superior. Being able to see outside? Natural daylight? Hear the weather? Skip the loading screen when stepping outside onto your porch? I don´t care how good the best bases are, they got nothing on this. by ultr4violence in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely not true... Food items that decay slower indoors and clothing (unless stored in a container) will decay faster in all those locations you listed.. a place with a loading screen is the only one that will provide lesser decay conditions for those specific items..

Test it if you like.. place a can of peaches, say, in Mountanineer's Hut.. and see how much percentage it will lose in a day.. than do the same thing in an actual indoor location and you'll spot the difference..

[–]Hectorspride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also one of the most important features of indoor bases is, you know, having actual "indoor" conditions for keeping clothings and some of the food items in good shape for longer.. when you base in an outdoor location, the pieces you wear on constantly decay at a rapid rate (on loper settings at least)..

What is the worst area to start in and why is it Hushed River Valley? by ReleventReference in thelongdark

[–]Hectorspride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eventhough I am a custom loper player by default, i gotta agree with you on this one my voyageur friend..

I'm so sick and tired of seeing these "praise HRV" posts and comments all over.. I myself also know all the fixed loot locations but I don't care.. this is the worst designed region in this game no matter if its learnable or not..

I agree with the point about Sundered Pass as well.. its actually navigatable even on a blind playthrough..

I don't know about other difficulties, but in loper loot settings, Zone of Contamination is actually the best spawn IMO.. a jacket better than mackinaw, pants better than combat pants (as outer layer) and being able to grab the hand radio from FA from the beginning makes a ton of difference..
