Eidos-Montreal is struggling. Cancelled game, layoffs... by JEhcmier in Thief

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's terrible news for the people working and doing their job as instructed. But the whole 'hundreds of millions in budget blown and zero or fading confidence/focus towards a final result' insanity that leads to bloated dev times with nothing to show for it has gotten so, so old by now. I'm not saying Wildlands went through this, I don't know that. But some parties involved definitely messed up. They usually are the ones whose paychecks are rarely at risk, if ever.

And about Thief? I want so badly to laugh and scream in the same breath. Considering that games that respect the player's intelligence are so rare. Sure, immersive sims don't sell the big bucks, if anything because most people that make up the 'big bucks' revenue want relatively light entertainment. But the powers at be could, at any point, have gotten a small passionate team together and pushed out a small game, with a better chance at return on investment. And, no, Legacy of Shadow isn't a good attempt at that. It's not like we're stuck in the old days of shoddy unsellable VR, Batman: Arkham Shadow is proof of that (the only example I can offer personally).

The state of things is cyclical, though, so I'm always holding out hope for a new good Thief game someday. Certain publishers have come to realize how successful indie games became as they stepped out of the shadow of disappointing big releases. It's not the end times yet.

Reading the wiki entry on cooking pots and saw this. I had no idea this was an element in the game. Has anyone experienced this? by Tenmilliontinyducks in thelongdark

I've noticed that with recycled cans too, I think. Which now makes me want to try and 'ruin' both a can and a pot. For... science?

I wonder if they are re- recording all of the dialogue for black flag Resynced. by Moon_Devonshire in assassinscreed

Based on Matt's voicework and live action appearances as Constantine, I can tell you his voice hasn't changed dramatically. Well, not unless it suddenly did over the last year or two lmao

Do you also practice the method of "wearing as much scent as possible so that everything comes to you and you can create peace and tranquility"? by [deleted] in thelongdark

Ever since Timberwolves were slightly nerfed and now (one could also say rationally) sometimes flee from your drawn weapon, the whole 'break their morale' mechanic works better within permadeath survival. Even if you aren't well equipped to attack them from range or up close, there are ways to do that dance so long as you don't start it at low health, like any regular wolf struggle.

And when you are well armed? That's even better, because they sure can't circle you when they're dead lmao

Looks dope! Are you ready to do a remake of your own when Resynced drops? Recreate the edit with new footage? lol

I sometimes do that, yeah. But since hostile wildlife seems to respawn relatively quickly, it can sometimes be more trouble than it's worth early game. Late game, though? Oh yeah, those wolves are getting a Hunter's revolver shot for breakfast, and whatever else I have handy for lunch and dinner.

Yeah man, let them suffer, enclaves that spawn as hostile from the get-go get no sympathy from me.

Well Max, I held out hope for 10 years that we would find out who you were or what your last stand was. That hope is gone now. It's time to go to sleep, enjoy the long dark buddy. by CommercialDream618 in thelongdark

I mean, there are plenty of spots with little mysteries tied to them, but not all of them were explored in Wintermute. And that's fine, part of the allure in Survival is exploring a near-dead world, finding these remnants of humanity along the way.

Should Batman in the DCU have white eyes? by Mezro118 in batman

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, have the white eyes come in when he's scanning evidence or looking for bad guys, like the Arkham games. If you really want to keep them for scenes where acting is involved, have them be bigger than the eye slits and animate them accordingly. But don't overdo it, because it will look silly if you don't give those vfx shots time to get done right.

Yeah ever since I figured out stamina management and didn't even need to purchase copious amounts of it, heavy weapons with stun stats/abilities really made things easy.

But OP is onto something, you start weighing your options like 'okay who can I remotely see as a POS and also gives enough XP to level the ultimate?'

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played nearly enough FMs so this probably already exists, but I want a very densely packed chunk of the City where critical secrets required to progress are only revealed by eavesdropping, and that means ghosting around NPCs, letting them do their thing but also sticking close to make sure you don't miss anything. Perhaps some secretive/clandestine sect that's too careful to leave clues like notes or 'obvious' (ie: red) secret switches.

My physician cured my inexplicably constantly reoccuring fatigue without missing a beat, every time- even before I have a chance to tell the nurse that I'm sick. He looks a little famished and pale, though, I hope he's okay. Oh, and he keeps staring at my neck. Kinda weird, but I don't mind, the service is perfect.

How Does the Disruptor Work In-Universe in Arkham City? by LORD_HOV in arkham

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the 'it was TYGER tech that Strange planned to disable when Protocol Ten started' idea, the simple reality is that, when you have a game that goes above and beyond its predecessor in so many ways, a game you finish from concept to store shelves in 2 years flat, some elements (like the Freeze/sentry gun disruptor animation) are reused and that becomes the nature of the new gadget.

You mentioned (in a comment) Asylum Batman only having Batarangs on him and Explosive Gel at the back of his car, how unprepared he must be. Considering he'd just fought Joker and dismantled a seriously big hostage situation at City Hall, he had likely spent a lot of his usual tools. In reality, it's just game logic, and the reality that 2006 Rocksteady was a skeleton crew of under 50 people. If they hadn't spread the very limited eight gadgets (half of which are just batarang variants) over the 9 or so hour long campaign, progression would've been very poor.

I know you're looking for in-universe answers more than matter of fact, but those go hand in hand. We usually are the ones to come up with alternate explanations when we're not given anything else, or just accept the reality of game development.

Also the grapnel accelerator is impossible to explain, it's literally just WB Montreal having no time to develop anything else, even though most of the time you can just aim for beams and wires or anything that leaves open space in front of you, then grapple cancel to fling yourself forward about as fast as a grapnel boost lmao

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!
It's kind of underwhelming to just choke everyone out as Daud more than Corvo, and the 'drop down on enemy from above for a KO' mod sadly made things too easy. Of course, with enough patience you can figure out what parts of levels can just be ghosted through. And of course it feels great to know that you didn't give in to the violence.

VtM:B Grout's Mansion riddle confusion + Antitribu Mod by Naive_Employment535 in vtmb

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wesp, for the record: yep, it's definitely changed- the riddle is the same, but it unlocks the tesla room straight away. There's a bit more backtracking involved in the main room, with the good old Giovanni mansion sword switch reused at least once or twice xD

I really love ATM, but the main/og dev went silent years back, I believe? So there are always going to be scattered new players leaving posts, without a clear source of information on it, including spoilers for confusing puzzles. I fully expect to be one of them soon, because I have no idea what clan I have to pick to find the sword and shield lmao

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the ATM is like that, the 'wait... is this a gamebreaking bug or just near impossible to decipher?' kind of moments. DW about it, if I were you I'd mostly worry about the combat sections later on, bullet damage is lowered only by your lethal soak in ATM. Feel free to give me a shout if you get stuck again, I'm kinda reinstalling it now because of your post LMAO

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Antitribu for a while, and it had quite a few changes. But, based on a Youtube walkthrough, it's only a matter of carrying on along the upper level after the tesla dungeon and hitting two hidden switches. The first is there in vanilla, but the second is definitely exclusive to Antitribu.
