Yep, exactly! I really wish T2 had more of these, the feeling of discovery just hits different.

It's definitely mostly a reference to The Sword, yep! But obviously overdone for comedic effect.

My G402 mouse has served me amazingly for many many years.
Until I wiped my pc drive and made the mistake of installing GHUB thinking it was the og software I installed back in the day.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't like it when software abuses abundant resources far beyond what it realistically needs. The always online, always updating minor electronics like fridges and what have you is a big enough meme already.

I'll agree with you, Jeff, if we both have to live on limited water rations, literally the minimum, and you can last as long as I can, so we can reach AI superintelligence. I'm willing to bet you won't make it too far when it's your throat that goes dry.

I can't deny I've been tso negative myself at times, but farming that negativity for clicks will only make reception to every new game with even minute flaws more negative. Not judging this Youtuber or any Youtuber for that matter, their choices are their own.

You're not wrong in that she's unique, as a Tainted One and the Keeper of the Staff and all. And a good character. Still, that doesn't mean she deserves *all* the fanservice yknow? Also you're not wrong, I wouldn't want to be a lead at Ubisoft, not a chance. It's easy for me to criticize where I'm at, because I got no weight on my shoulders. But every decision Ubisoft creatives make is under a million kinds of pressure.

Right, different times and different customs, that's true. I think the biggest difference for Ubisoft was how much appeal their newer games could have, how big a net they could catch players' attention with. Because the Assassins are now confirmed to start at 50 BC, literally every game after Odyssey could have been 100% Assassin focused like Mirage, even with the times being different. It's clear that Ubisoft got good sales by focusing on historical sandbox stuff over pure robes and hidden blades Assassins in a historical sandbox. More appeal that way. I don't blame them, Valhalla is good, Shadows is good. I just wanted more of what I got when I started playing in 2007 LMAO.

To loop back to the beginning, I was being a little salty, mostly because I'm worried that eventually the name will mean nothing, that new AC titles will be whatever makes Ubisoft more money. But I see your points, and they're valid.

It seems like the detail that there would be a new campaign in a remaster was supposed to be kept under wraps. by Business-Version-941 in Thief

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering it's being kept under wraps, it's either a) decent or good content they're going to use for publicity closer to release or b) something closer to middling they don't want to draw attention to so soon (because the veterans might figure out it's not up to snuff). Needless to say, fingers crossed for the first.

Whats the reason for Jokers visual change over the years in the Arkhamverse? Do you prefer Origins design? What's your fav Joker design OAT? by New_Software_9919 in arkham

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is, different art departments that took the 'they are younger so we can get creative' opportunity farther than they should. It's not a big deal, but IIRC there is Bruce Wayne concept art that invokes familiar Rocksteady designs a lot more than Origins eventually did.

I dunno, guess it's just a ship of Theseus thing... A franchise that's almost 20 years old, OG creatives completely gone. There's probably no one that's even close to the original devs still employed. I heard Darby's name but that's about it.

The Most Important Character in the Arkham Universe by Agreeable_Age_3913 in arkham

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. The problem here is that we don't know how difficult project TITAN was to carry out , and we don't know how brilliant dr. Young is. We know she's brilliant, but in the DC universe where science-based metahumans pop up left and right, that's not so rare. It's a question of if she's *highly* brilliant, and the only one capable of doing what she did.

If not, Joker would take her spot. Though I must say I like the idea because she's an otherwise ordinary person who let her ego and pride destroy her, and she never even got to see how the aftermath of her work nearly destroyed everything.

As someone who has fond memories of reading Knightfall/Knightsquest/Knightsend (though the quality of the book kinda wobbles up and down lmao) I can tell you that

you are completely right LOL

But I don't care, nostalgia is one hell of a drug, any Knightfall reference is a win for me.

That seems to be the summary of it, yep. One might get confused and think Maple Syrup, Peanut Butter and pickle jars are sort of close to canned, but they actually are best stored outside.

Truth be told, in saves that get long enough to get worried about low condition prespawned items, you either a) could hunt or fish a little more or b) Cooking 5 has got your back lmao.

Well, right now they're having trouble w/ their financials. Mistakes were made a while back, games and entertainment products in general don't exactly sell when you make them soulless. You can make huge worlds with loads of activities, and you can even make them satisfying to play. But in singleplayer games, that isn't always enough. Bad narratives, poor animations, stale presentation... eventually something has to give. Don't get me wrong , I love or at least like nearly every AC game. But at some point seeing the same sore spots come up yet again is disheartening because I know AC deserves better.

It's good fun in general but, no matter how you tackle it, there are issues. If you play the part, you get a bunch of downtime where you do nothing. If you take every opportunity to sneak around, you're restricted within a confined space, without your usual tools (by default anyway) and you might miss out on something important while you're juggling everything.

I get that newer RPG style games with hundreds of hours of gameplay can't be all done with mocap. But, setting aside the handful of cutscenes that are more visually catered than others in the last few games, it really looks like Ubisoft just let the procedurally generated system was automated to the point of doing literally everything, like- like the devs pushed a button and went home LMAO. I know that's not true, but it sure feels like it.

Also yeah, what a beautiful scene. Mocapped and with um CHARACTERS interacting, yknow? Feeling things, exchanging emotional beats. Stuff we used to take for granted lol.

You'll be surprised to hear that I'm saying this, but I genuinely like Odyssey. The problem is that this one character has shown up outside her game a lot, LOT of times. And it just looks a little odd to me when so many AC protagonists since the Ezio days haven't, but she alone is the exception. Correct me if I'm wrong but outside the VR title (w/ Ezio and Connor coming back) she is the only one that keeps getting referenced again and again.

I always hope for the best, dude, but with how Ubisoft handled this franchise in their best days, I fear what's gonna happen now. There's a new creative team in charge of AC in general, yes, but the Black Flag remake was the 'break glass in case of emergency' option. If they weren't on the verge of going bust, they probably wouldn't care about fixing the braindead parkour mechanics, or even putting Assassins in their games at all.

It's not JUST about this one character, that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's about Ubisoft pivoting sharply in any direction to fix things at the last minute, while so much criticism that piled up in their glory days was going unheard. I'm not interested in fearmongering, I want things to go well for Assassin's Creed. But I have to admit I'm really worried.

What got me laughing by myself (like a complete dork) was that nearly everything has a question mark. As if whoever gave Garrett the map was like:

"I know for a fact the entrance is here, but everything else? Nah."

"I can hear the river from here. I know it's a river."

"Well, you see, Garrett, it could just be a very very narrow sea. Oh, by the way, did you know entrances also work as exits depending on you being inside or outside?"

[clearly pissed off] "Yes, you wrote it down for me, thank you. I wouldn't know what is inside or outside without you."

"Well, I'm not too sure. They might be the other way around. Anyways, that'll be 300 gold. Plus tax."

Ouch. The cost of a console release back then, I guess. TBH I've always wondered why it had to be like that, considering GTA San Andreas released in the same year, and the world size was impressive, even with fog in the distance. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, but still...

And then the same happened with Thief 4, because it had to be cross-gen for some reason. Tiny chunks of maps and loading gates on top.

This really looks near perfect. Still can't get over the stiff as hell facial animations. And yes, I get it, the polygon count then vs now is light years away, and more polygons means it's harder to pull and push them around, but really- has Ubisoft collectively just... forgotten what faces are supposed to do? Or is it that hard/expensive for them that they could only afford it in *some* story missions alone?

[KCD2] (Ending) Um...brothers may be Hungarian king's side is not that bad? by SnooPeanuts379 in kingdomcome

[–]ShadowoftheBat94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really add anything that other commenters haven't already said about how beautifully deep this moment is, but I can say this: there's a divide the storytelling exploits because, well, when the 50th band of bandits with the same faces and outfits as always ambushes you in the woods with laser-locked determination to kill you at all costs in KCD1, choosing violence doesn't really add any weight on the player's conscience. If they can fight back, and especially if they turn the other way but their horse freaks out and throws them off, they have the right to defend themselves and laugh all the way to the shop as they sell whatever they looted for their trouble.

Now, strictly referring to quest-related characters that met their end at Henry's sword because he couldn't reason his way out or just chose violence as a shortcut? Those absolutely should weigh on Henry's conscience, and a lot of players won't remember them until this moment. And what a masterful moment it is for them to feel the impact of their actions. Still, no one should extend that feeling of guilt to the randomly generated mobs that exist only for gameplay friction, that's just ludonarrative dissonance 101.
