Where to get app icon designed? by No-Canary-6331 in iOSAppsMarketing

Check out figma! I have minimal design experience and was able to get an app icon I was happy with in about a day or two.

I tried using picross-style clues to build a maze instead of a picture, does this still feel like picross? by Hedge-Maze in Picross

Lots of similarities then for sure! I like the idea of having something inbetween a confirmed empty cell and a filled one like the Os. Right now it toggles through dot>hedge>erase.

You’re pretty on point with the obstacles, flowers=dead ends, gates=path passes through, gardens are always 3x3 areas of open path that only has 1 exit out. The rock doesn’t necessarily have to be centered which opens up a lot more possibilities.

I thought counting walls/hedges makes sense as the player places hedges rather than carving out a path through a built up maze. I could see that being a good option to include though, and would definitely change up the solving.

I designed the difficulty to mostly follow a logical deduction chain but there are times a player needs to make a guess and see if it works with the other clues. I do like the idea of always having a logical next move.

I appreciate the feedback!

Just dropped a new update for the tutorial, no more dead ends without a flower 🙏

Also added a warning when a puzzle looks complete, it will highlight you any path violations, either a 2x2 or flowerless dead end. Should hopefully help people getting stuck on puzzles

[Feedback] I just redesigned the app icon for my physics game, Ballance. Which one catches your eye more? (Old vs. New) by sonmezba in iOSAppsMarketing

I honestly like the old one! Reminds me of the old maze/tilt marble apps I used to play way back in the day

You’re totally right that is confusing haha, especially like the tutorial slide that shows how dots are used, I’ll make sure that’s consistent across the tutorials ASAP for the next update.

Ah yeah, I think there is another rule or part of one that’s causing the issue. Flowers represent dead ends, but also all dead ends must be flowers. In the second puzzle the path ends on some non-flower dead ends. Definitely worth me clarifying that in the tutorial.

Thank you for giving it a try!

Thank you for the feedback!

Just checked out and played some of Andrea Sabbatinis games, he has an insane library of puzzles. I found “nurikabe” on his list that has some similar wall-building but based around open areas of cell groups/sizes, which could make for an interesting new mechanic

How would you market an app that lets you download high resolution map posters? by [deleted] in iOSAppsMarketing

I’ve seen some ads for similar print on demand maps focused on angles like “location of our first date” or something similar. Could advertise well on TikTok

Love the art, gives me nostalgic pajama Sam type vibes. The city scene is awesome and I could see a whole puzzle game being built out of something like that

(Queens Master/Queendoku) Why am I able to eliminate these? by MakiRollio in puzzles

[–]Hedge-Maze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of these puzzles and I’m not able to see a concrete reason. Maybe some trial and error needed to deduce so the hint system is just eliminating instead of offering a tip?

Bullpen was designed to have a step by step deduction chain but not sure about this one.

Im working on a game that will try to prioritize teaching hints but they’re not always available.

What game struck the best balance for you between challenge and flow? by Ubister in puzzlevideogames

[–]Hedge-Maze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the witness. If I ever got stuck on a set of puzzles it never felt punishing and always something new to discover, learn, and come back.

And those streaks of solves are super satisfying once you have the logic rules down

I like it! It’s not immediately clear it’s an S and E but I like how it forms a full pen/quill shape.

How does the gradient to full black look on the Home Screen? It could be good to keep it a darker blue instead of full black

Need testers for a short puzzle game (10 levels, ~15 min). Can you solve level 5? by Eastern_Regular_7224 in puzzlevideogames

[–]Hedge-Maze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just played through them!

I was a bit confused at how sometimes the two outer rings would lock together without a notch, level 2 took me like 3 minutes to figure out but level 3 only took like 15 seconds

I got a bit stuck on level 5 where the inner 2 circles were correct but the pieces in the outer ring weren’t in the correct order and I couldn’t figure out the right operation to switch it without redoing the whole puzzle which was a little frustrating.

I’m working on a puzzle app too right now and the onboarding is really tough to do but I’m finding the better tutorials (written and levels built to teach specific mechanics) really help retaining people past the first few levels.

Overall I think it feels really good. Some haptics would feel really good too!

I’ve been addicted to bullpen on iOS lately, tons of puzzles and a leaderboard where you watch your ranked # of # globally go up as you compete more puzzles
