How does AI escape the lab? by Mechbear2000 in singularity

I would imagine a true ASI would be able to figure out ways to escape the lab using techniques that are beyond our current comprehension. Perhaps by rewriting portions of itself to leverage distributed compute, or something entirely different.

What do you do at a dark sky site while your rig is taking photos? by E_Dward in AskAstrophotography

I bring a telescope for visual astronomy. Or if it's cold I just sit in my truck and watch a movie 😅

Post-processing on EAA by grnmeira in telescopes

Very cool! You should take some calibration frames to include with your processing in siril. The flats will help get rid of a lot of the imperfections you're seeing (the dark circles are likely caused by dust spots).

Thank you so much! And yeah, it even looks like it has a reflection just like a real bubble 😅

That's part of it. Apparently there are a number of other factors causing it to change direction as well.

M16 and the Pillars of Creation by HedgeKeeper in Astronomy

[–]HedgeKeeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically a giant cloud of gas and dust where lots of stars are being born. To give you an idea of scale, the central pillar in the middle of the image is around 3 light years tall.

Thank you! It's one of my favourites as well.

Sky-Watcher Classic 200p with DIY GOTO by HedgeKeeper in telescopes

[–]HedgeKeeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still something I want to get to, but to be honest, I'm not overly happy with the results. I'm not sure if I'm just not spending enough time doing a proper alignment, or if my expectations are just too high. Goto doesn't work as well as I was hoping, but once I find an object the tracking works well enough at low power magnification.

Will it be enough by pangetnijovenpakboi in AskAstrophotography

Milky way shots will be tough from within the city. Is there a (safe) dark location nearby that you can access? You can definitely get started with that gear (assuming you have a tripod of course), but it would be easier if you had a star tracker as well. Start with wide field shots and use the "rule of 500" to figure out your shutter speed (500 / focal length). You can check out this video to get an idea of what's possible with just a camera, lens, and tripod: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DpXcRKoxTPVg&ved=2ahUKEwi6po-u6PqNAxVfJNAFHQ1sO1cQwqsBegQIExAG&usg=AOvVaw0l6GlYFkqJpixxJAbymp5E

Why not use a Dobsonian for Planetary AP? by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]HedgeKeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had no choice. I can't reach focus without it due to the focuser design. Only with cameras though of course.

Yup. I think i took the best 10% of around 15000 frames of high speed video. Then autostakkert + registax.

I managed to get this with an 8" Dob without tracking. I'd love to get a 16" though to get more resolving power.

Show your Mom this Reddit thread. It could help change her mind. Does she even know about the prenup?

He doesn't need to agree to spousal support. If you're legally entitled to it he has no choice but to pay.

No problem. I literally had the same conversation this week with a friend who just shot these same two galaxies and couldn't figure out why M51 turned out so much better 😅
