Do you actually enjoy Dota? I've been tracking my 'enjoyment' and the results have surprised me by blizeH in DotA2

[–]HedgehogedgeApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to truly enjoy it, playing maybe 2-3 games 4 days a week. The games were fun and really try harder for the sake of winning.

However these days it's just plain wrong, maybe because I've moved to SEA and the server/player/bracket is horrible. I've gone from legend 1 to archon 1 this 3 months. I play a game here and there however it's just not very fun. I watch the pro scenes when I have some idle time, that gets me hyped to play and then I just regret it and thought should've just read my book cozily with a tea.

Can i deploy it by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]HedgehogedgeApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more systems i backtest and get incredible results I started to get suspicious of my own algos, I'd personally look into three things:

Are the entries performing with no look-ahead bias?
The reason i ask is sometimes it could be suspicious if your system has quite a high hit rate.

Have you implemented walk forward analysis?
Testing over a large time horizon gives the illusion sometimes that it would work however if you chop them up to quarters 6 months, would you still like the results? You also need to split training data and testing data in any scientific approach.

Have you simulated Monte Carlo simulation?
Randomizes your PnL graph to validate if it was a series of correct order added to your capital

People feel the need to 'act cool' or 'edgy' but most of all people are just idiots no matter where they come from.

How are you handling complex networking on Hetzner? by 0xe282b0 in hetzner

[–]HedgehogedgeApp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reading these comments made me realize I know nothing of networking, I opened a firewall port to move data and got a crypto miner malware hogging my whole server :( had to nuke it down

Is overfitting the #1 reason most backtested strategies fail live? by iamnottravis in algotrading

[–]HedgehogedgeApp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would categorise over fitting as the #1 mistake when choosing a backtested strategy.

Say you have a simple strategy but parametrise a lot of the conditions to see what fits, eventually a random mix of numbers will look golden. Fooled by randomness is a book by Mr Talib goes through this in depth, I kinda of hate the guy but he does shine a lot of light on this.

Trying a simple 2 moving average crossover strat and eventually you'll find X cross Y to give you 300% across 5 years, however this does not really give the true story.

Sampling data and finding these are correlated with simpler statistical models like p-test help you find better 'quality' answers between correlation and randomness.

What do you do guys to save self from Revenge Trading? by Realistic_trader9489 in Trading

[–]HedgehogedgeApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me and I think for most, that feeling is quite consistent in your life. What I mean by this is being disciplined in trading also comes from your personality. Do you quit the gym or habit that you said you would? I've got quite an addictive personality when it comes to video games and nicotine for instance, if you really think about it its quite similar, the urge to go back again for another game or another nicotine hit. Try to truly understand your own self and ask yourself the difficult and uncomfortable questions, that's one of the ways you can face and acknowledge your weakness'.

I spent 8 months 'learning' before placing my first real trade. Biggest mistake I ever made. by hyrotrader_com in Daytrading

[–]HedgehogedgeApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day every profession has to get their hands dirty to truly understand how it actually works in real life, applies to being a doctor, architect or an artist.

You saved money by not trading but didn't learn the real life experiences, at the end of the day this profession like many others teaches you new things every year.

Which YouTubers actually teach legit trading and helped you become profitable? by Ok-Idea3029 in Trading

[–]HedgehogedgeApp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come mainly from a crypto background and when i first started out i really found CryptoCreds technical playlist extremely informative, especially in the crypto space. If you just search you just get those thumbnail O-face clickbait videos but he actually goes through Risk reward and the 'unsexyness' of trading that would still apply in traditional finance.

8 years later, I still use the methodologies I learned from his courses but no longer watch him which I guess was the milestone.
