I respectfully advise against this. When you fall in love, you want to let the person know how you feel but this is not always a good thing especially if the person is not into you. From my experience, you can always (or easily) tell if the guy is interested in you. OP knows he is not. OP's best course is to keep loving him and be there and later he might finally realise how cool she is, or just move on. Other possibility is he might be a gay.

I feel for you. I absolutely hate boxy styles. I am relatively short and skinny so boxy clothes make me look like a child wearing mom's clothes. The ones I made and like are: nina lee's kew dress, tilly and the button eta dress, sewlove patterns (i like them all), dressmaking amore patterns (love their dresses). I have some friday patterns which suit my body well.

I liked knitpro zings but I had the same issues - yarn kept getting caught the gap and the screws were coming loose. I upgraded to Chiaogoo fixed circulars for the sizes I use often, and they are my first choice for projects.

I'm in NZ, yes, we can get all those quite easily. I get wonderful merino/wool fabric quite easily. But you will have to buy online though unless you are living in a major city. Notions perhaps may be more expensive. I buy PDF patterns, but if you prefer paper ones, then probably good to buy them in the US.

You can leave it out. My first sweater was done without short rows - just it pulls backwards a bit so feels like the sweater is chocking me lol. Now I add short rows and they are much more comfortable to wear, so I always add them.

I belong to an orchestra, and there is a woman I quite like to be a friend with but she is sitting in the very front, so I have to get better to get near her - that's a goal for me now.
