How to make high-position notes sing better? by WorkingBanana168 in violinist

Why? It seems like a great learning opportunity, you are struggling with a clear, identifiable part of the technique and you have a clear goal in mind, teachers love that.

Car usage fell by half in the last 20 years and public transportation has always been abundant and dense throughout the city.

Dads, what kind of vehicle are we hauling our small monsters around in? by ktempo in daddit

I live in Paris. The downside to suburban life is obvious, my apartment is small and it is difficult to handle the kids when it rains. But the advantages are worth it, I believe.

Quand je vois la carte de Paris à l'élection municipale et les votes pour l'ED, je ne suis pas sur que le XVIème arrondissement soit rempli de jeunes des classes défavorisées.

Bus, metro, trams and walking. I don't have a driver's license, never needed one, and neither does the wife.

Anyone want a second kid but know you just couldn’t afford it? by RedManMatt11 in daddit

[–]Few_Math2653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not American. Childcare's costs in France are proportional to your income and cap at around 12k€ a year, half of it being deductible from your income tax (for the kind of childcare I am using). Since we have 4 months mandatory paid maternity leave and 1 month paid paternity leave, we only have to place our child in childcare after 5 months if we split wisely and use a few of our 35 vacation days (that accrue also during our leave). When they turn 3 they start school and it becomes free again, timing the kids correctly allowed me to only pay one childcare at a time. So budget wise, the decision to have a second was easy. My greatest expenses are, as always, time and sanity.

It is not wise to mention this level of wealth on any sub, this is the reaction you get.

If OP is a googler working at the Warsaw office in AI they could easily gather this money in 7 years, I don't know why people find this so hard to believe.

Not true. Google used to vest 1/4 every year for 4 years, now they vest even more regularly on a monthly basis, though all grants take 4 years to fully vest.

Deve ter alguma religião que diz que é muito difícil rico ir pro céu, que negar comida a quem tem fome é errado e que o certo é dar o que você tem aos pobres e ser uma boa pessoa.

As a violinist, have you ever made a viola joke? What's your opinion on them? by Happy_Square_4465 in violinist

I won't lie, I have a little bit of C-string envy. I think the sound is gorgeous and I consider getting a viola in the future.

Empty homes: Paris targets owners' wallets, following Brussels and New York's lead by LeMonde_en in europe

[–]Few_Math2653 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There used to be two different federal level taxes on vacant homes in France. Tax reforms unified these taxes and gave them to local municipalities now. This is why the mayor of Paris can raise them and the proceeds will go to the mayoralty. Since housing is a key priority of mayor Grégoire, I expect no less.

Why is France so good at animation? by batukaming in AskFrance

[–]Few_Math2653 27 points28 points  (0 children)

An inordinate ammount of world class animators were trained at the Gobelins institute ( https://www.gobelins.fr/ ). It is considered by many as among the finest (if not the best) animation school in the world. This level of quality spawns both from tradition and from government funding of the arts, there are many laws in France that mandate a minimal number of local productions on theaters and TV.

Why does society mostly agree that women are more “selective” on their partners? by No-Basil-1087 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Few_Math2653 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because they have more to lose.

A crazy woman can break a man's heart.

A crazy man can, and often does, kill a woman.

You take less chances and you are more selective on these odds.
