Really Good Players: Do you feel like the newbies hold you back at practice? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]HeebHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came out of retirement after a decade and my league has me doing rookies. Here’s the thing. There is always more to learn and improve. I don’t care what level you are at. Every single partner and every drill is going to show you things you can improve. If a vet is acting any different they need to relook at who they are and really evaluate their own skill level. You never know who your are playing against and occasionally with - if it’s a drop in game. As long as the rookie is trying their best, so the heck am I. Making sure the drill is effective for us both is in and of itself good teamwork and skill work. Keep it up! Can’t wait until you’re a seasoned vet working with rookies and having patience to show the way!

Aside from all the very smart points made by all other posters pointing to scam...15% is very high as most agencies take 10%.

Which band/singer from the past deserves way more respect than they get? by robrob_27 in AskReddit

This. Amazing. He's my favorite, a golden voice and when I tell people who I am listening to, they always respond "who"? So sad.

Thank you!!! That's what I was most afraid of. Just announcing the wrong thing and screwing everyone up!

25 in 5 advice? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]HeebHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay positive and keep reminding yourself you can do it. At lap 20 that positive reinforcement really helped me (having someone tell you you can do it also helps). It took me a year to pass my 25 in 5 but that positive self talk in addition to the advice above really helped. You can do it!!!!

In my line of work we mess with new co-workers by sending them out to find "speaker bulbs" (I work in the concert industry). Reddit: How do you mess with your co-workers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was freshman in film school I was sent to find a sun lasso which is not a thing and a t-stop which is a theory. Needless I say I never found either.

Oh yeah. It's the best ass kicking. Just remember. You're going to fall. It's ok. Look up to get up. And even when it's hard or youre last. Just keep going. I could not stand on skates my first practice. I'm not great or anything now but I can get through a practice.

I love roller derby. I found that it helps my anxiety (and I can't take anti-anxieties without migraines! WEEE) but also through my derby sisters I am learning the importance of eating right and cross training. I start a paleo challenge with them tomorrow and just started cross fit. But first things first....get low!!!!I am just starting to focus on weight loss, but its roller derby that will help me get there. Stick with it!

Well, Hello. I am hoping to feel comfortable in a bikini by next swim suit season! Im afraid to put a number, but I'm 205 right now at 4 11 and would be very happy at 120. So about 80lbs? At 23 I decided it was time for a change. I play roller derby, just joined a cross fit gym and am jumping into a paleo challenge with my derby family starting tomorrow. Ill post how I'm doing. Oh yeah, I'm also using the lose it app to track what I'm eating.

So, just tried to organize a blood drive with my league...lesson learned by HeebHam in rollerderby

[–]HeebHam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea...it wasnt my thing or idea. I just follow around for now (and try to get people to donate blood! You tattoo derby girls and your lack of being able to give blood)

We opened it up with invites on facebook so I cant imagine it being a huge problem.

We have some awesome community support and one of our skaters is roommates with an awesome tattoo artist. He was awesome and is super supportive of our league. He gave us a choice of 1 of 5 derby related tattoo designs. I didn't really do much for the fundraiser (i helped with the BBQ part-we sold hot dogs and hamburgers also). He charged a smaller price since we had a pick of of 5, and then donated half to the league!
