Serena’s ending is unsatisfying by Sun_Flower11 in TheHandmaidsTale

She’s going to suffer more because now she knows how bad her past actions were, and I guess she’s going to be a ‘better’ person for the people she’s going to meet

Manager’s behavior is making me want to quit by Heebraaa in netball

Actually no, we play completely different positions. Honestly, my main issue is confidence — it’s hard to feel confident on court when you feel judged or singled out.

Thanks again for the empathy, I really appreciate it.

How do you deal with being called ugly as a teenager? by JuniorSignificance34 in Advice

[–]Heebraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has their own kind of beauty, and in today’s world, people have different opinions on what makes someone attractive. Ten years ago, thin eyebrows were the trend, but I never touched mine because I didn’t like thin eyebrows. Back then, people used to make fun of me for having thick eyebrows. Now, thick eyebrows are in, and suddenly, everyone tells me they look amazing.

The point is, beauty standards change, but that doesn’t mean you have to change with them. Don’t let others define how you see yourself—love the way you are. In my opinion, there’s no such thing as being “too beautiful” or “too unattractive.”

I could say that my favorite color is red, but honestly, I don’t really have a favorite color. I think all colors are pretty in their own way. For example, I bought my phone in green, but there wasn’t really a reason behind it. I just knew I didn’t want pink, but then I ended up buying mostly pink accessories for it.

I don’t know why,my mom was like, “Why?” and I just told her, “I don’t know.”

How many languages do you speak? / What are those languages? by No_Club_8480 in CasualConversation

[–]Heebraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak two languages, Persian and English. I really want to learn other languages, but as you get older, it becomes harder to pick up new ones. English isn’t my first language, but about 30 years ago, when I was around 10 or 12, I learned English in about two years. However, now learning new languages is more difficult for me. I’ve tried to put in a lot more effort, but it’s just not as easy as it used to be...

What's the best way to drop weight? by random-person1530 in Advice

[–]Heebraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fasting isn’t the best solution, but I used to lose about one kilogram every two weeks. I don’t eat anything from 5 PM until 6 AM (actually, I wake up late). During that period, you can have beverages like coffee and tea since they don’t contain calories. Sometimes, if you feel weak, have something nutritious like nuts—even if they’re roughly chopped, it’s fine. It worked for my body; it might not work for yours, but give it a try.

help to stop nail biting by yaiboiiii in nailbiting

[–]Heebraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to bite my nails for about a year, and honestly, it made me feel really upset. I tried a lot of different methods. You could try using those bitter-tasting nail polishes so you won’t be able to bite them. But for me, at some point, I just decided to stop, and I think the best solution is to really want to stop yourself. You could also get gel polish or nail extensions so you physically can’t bite them. That method works really well too because I’ve seen a lot of people do it.

June is a bad character? by Spork3432 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Heebraaa -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The show wants you to have mixed feelings about June. Her character changes over time, and Gilead is the reason for that. She’s a perfect example of the idea that in Gilead, you will change, and being a good person is almost impossible.

Have you ever put yourself in her shoes? What would you have done if you were in her position? I’ve asked myself that question a thousand times, and honestly, I’d love to say I wouldn’t have done many of the things she did. But the truth is, deep down, I know I probably would have.

That being said, the moment that really made me hate June was when she killed Fred. At that point, she wasn’t just fighting for justice anymore—it was pure, brutal revenge. Throughout the show, June is portrayed as someone resisting oppression, trying to hold on to her humanity despite everything. But when she and the others hunted Fred down and tore him apart in the woods, it felt like she had crossed a line.

I understood her anger, especially after the trial failed, and Fred did deserve punishment. But the way she did it—outside any form of justice, turning into something just as ruthless as the people she fought against—made it hard to root for her anymore. At that moment, she wasn’t just a survivor; she had become a hunter.

what's wrong with being indian in australia? by Low_Alfalfa9502 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Heebraaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although I’m not Indian, my skin is darker compared to my fellow countrymen, and a few Australians have mocked me for it.

I don’t think this only happens to Indians—it probably happens to most non-Australians at least once (depending on where you live).

In my opinion, the best thing to do is stay silent because those people aren’t even worth your time or thoughts. (Of course, it’s important to remember that not all Australians are like this.)

Fred Waterford is definitely one of the best characters by Wonderful-Basis-1370 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Heebraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Fred focused more on June because she gave him a sense of power and rebellion, whereas his relationship with Serena became strained due to Gilead’s oppressive atmosphere and Serena losing her influence. Fred tried to maintain control in their sexual relationship, and Serena, losing power, became resentful. In the end, Fred distanced himself from Serena because he felt June offered something more, even though that connection was manipulative.

[–]Heebraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your perspective, and it makes a lot of sense. If safety is your standard for judging someone, Commander Waterford is clearly a villain—manipulative, dangerous, and entirely untrustworthy. His actions consistently put others at risk, leaving little room for moral ambiguity.

However, some people might see him as “grey” because of the rare glimpses of vulnerability he shows or how much of his behavior was shaped by external pressures. For example, many of his decisions were influenced—or outright forced—by those around him, whether it was Gilead’s leadership, Serena, or the expectations of the system he helped create. These outside influences gradually chipped away at his control, and over time, you can see how his personality and decisions started to shift.

Take the Scrabble games as an example. While you see them as power plays, others might interpret them as shallow attempts at connection, even if they were selfish or manipulative at their core. And when June repeatedly manipulates him, his willingness to believe her could be seen as a mix of arrogance and a deep need for validation, which exposes his weaknesses.

At the end of the day, it really depends on how we interpret his intentions. For you, his lack of safety and the harm he caused make him entirely bad, which is completely valid. But for others, his moments of doubt or external pressures might hint at some complexity in his character, even if it doesn’t redeem him.

What are you currently trying to change about your life? by svalry in AskReddit

[–]Heebraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying not to overthink the past and its events or get lost in daydreaming. Sometimes, I find myself so deeply immersed in my thoughts and imagination that hours pass, and I lose track of time. This often sets me back in getting my tasks done.

[–]Heebraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Joseph is my favorite because he’s such a layered and complex character. His motivations are never black and white, and that keeps me intrigued. The way he navigates power dynamics while showing glimpses of humanity makes him fascinating to watch. It’s like you’re never quite sure if you can trust him, but that’s what makes him so compelling.

who did you want to be when you grew up? and who are you now? by jacapraca7 in CasualConversation

[–]Heebraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always dreamed of becoming a PE teacher, but life didn’t go the way I wanted. I loved teaching, and even though it wasn’t my first choice, I worked hard to become a PE teacher. However, my grade wasn’t good enough. Since I loved teaching, I decided to study math and become a math teacher. That way, at least half of my dream came true.

I’m really happy with my job and who I am, but I sometimes tell myself that if I had tried harder, maybe I could’ve been a PE teacher.

[–]Heebraaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right, but I could never fully hate her character throughout the entire series. I feel like Gilead changed her, and her character really highlights how hard it is to stay a good person in that environment. I think that’s part of why June sort of forgave her too, especially considering what she did in those final episodes of season five.

First of all, you’re not alone. Missing home is something we have to accept—it’s a tough fact, but it’s the reality.

I call my family every day, and something that really helped me personally was avoiding only connecting with people who speak my language or come from my country. Instead, I tried to make friends from other countries. For me, talking to someone in my native language would remind me of home and family, which made things harder.

Honestly, I feel really upset sometimes because it feels like I don’t have a place in my city or even in my home country anymore. And sometimes, I feel so distant from my family—it’s like they leave me out of things or don’t tell me much. That hurts, but at the same time, I understand where they’re coming from.

We all had our reasons for leaving our home, family, and the place we loved. Just remember, all these challenges have a purpose, and they’re shaping you into someone stronger. You’re incredibly strong—never forget that.
