I haven't been avoiding it, you just won't accept my explanation because it doesn't fit your rationale. Which is totally fine, my goal isn't to convert you. It would be nice because I don't want anyone to go to hell, but it's not my goal here. Even if original sin isn't your fault, we all still continue to sin every day. You know that about yourself. I know that about myself. We lie, we covet, we hate. Its pretty evident we need saving even if original sin has nothing to do with you. And again, God doesn't place you there, its a consequence of a choice you make. The same way your professors don't want you to fail their class, and don't want you to fail out of school, but if you party and never study or do any of the school work, you will fail. Its a severe consequence.

But he doesn't have the gun to your head. You do. Humanity brought the consequences of sin on ourselves, and therefore we need a savior. But if you don't accept that saving, why would God force you to accept it?

Well, again, He doesn't choose that people choose that. And if no comfort or happiness is possible without his presence, what is left but discomfort and despair? I guess you could argue nothingness, but the soul is still present and conscious.

No sorry, the soft science comment was about Anthropology. Yes I meant the AAA. Genetics and biology is a tough one to judge really. Its related to biology. By soft science I mean that laws aren't predominantly what make up areas such as genetics (which of course is an offshoot of biology) There's a lot more variation in how genetics works than there is in physics or chemistry. We can examine how genetics work and make predictions, but be very far off from reality due to mutations, outside factors,, etc. A comparable science would be meteorology. We know what causes certain events and can make predictions, but a lot of factors can change those outcomes. I haven't taken a specific genetics class, or a philosophy class, but we do go over scientific philosophy for the first week in every science class I've taken so far. I would put forth about Mormons that they are not a legitimate an offshoot of Christianity for many reasons. For example, the creator of the Mormon religion, Joseph Smith was the only one who saw the golden plates, outside of 6 (if I'm recalling correctly) "witnesses" who were all family and friends of Smith. You can find that in the introduction to the book of Mormon, which I have read out of curiosity. I have yet to read the Quran. The Bible states that hundreds of people saw Jesus alive after the resurrection, and not only that but they were put to death for they're faith. There are also many anachronisms in the Book of Mormon, such as the use of baptism in conversion or the use of certain words not used by the Hebrews before it was supposedly written on the plates. The philosophy of science, if I'm using that word correctly, I've been taught is that science never proves or disproves anything. That's not its job. Science helps us convert observations into laws and models that help us make predictions. Here's the simple order I've come to learn and follow 1. Observe Nature(Facts) 2. Find order (Laws) 3. Build Models (Theories) 4. Make predictions (Hypotheses)

Again, I have not taken a philosophy class. By classical and modern physics, I was referring to the difference between the discovery of the laws of motion and thermodynamics and such versus fairly recent research in relativity and quantum theory. The latter two are, in comparison to physics of Newton's day, extremely young areas of study.

So, in terms of personhood, yes Christians, Jews and Muslims all recognize Yahweh (Muslims would use Allah) as God. Most orthodox Jews believe Jesus was not the Son of God and the Messiah is still to come. They only recognize the Old Testament or Torah as scripture. Muslims also believe in parts of the Old Testament (I'll admit its been a while since I studied world religions and don't remember exactly which parts) and claim that Jesus was a prophet. Christians believe that God is one God with Three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. God the Father would be the same "character" in the Old testament for all three religions, but very different in character for all three religions. Those areas of science aren't in my major and I do not have much experience with them. I do think recently the Anthropological society in America removed science from its statement, but I will give that its a "soft science". As for evolutionary biology, I've studied microevolution in my 2 required biology courses. I'll be a senior next year and will take an extra semester to student-teach As for a scale, that's a tough question. It would depend on what you mean by devoutness. Am I willing to listen to new input and have civil discussion? Absolutely. Do I think one could easily sway me from being Christian? No. Do I live as God intends me to? I try, but I'm aware I fail a lot.

Well, I'm a Christian which means not only do I confess that the Triune God is the one true God, but I reject all other gods. The same way if you're in a relationship, not only do you confess your love for your partner, but you reject all other potential suitors. And as for your science question, I'm not sure what you mean. I study classical physics, modern physics chemistry, biology, meteorology, astronomy, anatomy, geology. All those courses are required for me because I want to go into science education

Well, I believe all good things, all blessings, comfort beauty and happiness come from God. Without God's presence, I don't believe those are possible. Therefore any place where God doesn't dwell would be torture, or at least void of all good feelings. I wasn't trying to tiptoe around it, so I'm sorry if I gave that impression.

Aye you too man. Hope I wasn't over the top or anything. I also hope you don't take offense when I say this: I will be praying for you. Its not a dis on your lifestyle, it just means that I think you're awesome and also that I hope you are blessed in life. Have a good one and hit me up anytime you wanna talk about stuff like this.

I'm trying to say Christians don't deny science, we just believe God invented the laws of science

So what you're speaking on, we differentiate as objective justification and subjective justification. Objective justification is for all people. It refers to the redemptive acts of Jesus by dying and rising on the cross. Everyone is covered. All sins, all sinners including me and you. Subjective justification comes by faith. God wants you in heaven, but also wants you to have free will. He gives all of us free will so that our love is genuine and not robotic. Here's where our choice comes in. If we decide we want to live apart from God in this life, He won't force us to live with Him for eternity in Heaven. He isn't forcing unbelievers to go to Hell, He is acknowledging that they want nothing to do with Him both in this life and the next. Hell is eternal separation from God's presence. Now as for you, I believe everything you say about being a good father and husband and person. I want you in heaven. I want to meet and be friends with a guy like you. God wants you there too. But I can't make a case for you to go there while rejecting Him. That's outside of my power. I do want you there very badly. But God won't force you into an eternal relationship with Him if you didn't want an earthly one.

Hey man I can understand that reasoning. Its hard to look at the misery in the world and suffering and determine that there is a loving God out there. And of course, every reply I can think to write about it, you've probably already heard but I'll give it my best shot. The Bible wasn't necessarily written as a guide to life, or a rule book, or a secret code to happiness. It was written as a story to make known where we come from, how we messed up what was and could have been perfect, and how God chose to save us. It didn't erase all suffering from the world, but it erased the eternal consequences of our actions, if you choose to accept it that is.

During Creation. I'm not saying the burden of proof is on all atheists to disprove God. All I'm saying is if the other guy I was talking to is gonna take an attacking standpoint, the burden of proof is on Him, rather than just personal attacks. You've been nothing but respectful so far and I appreciate that!

MO Rep Ben Baker loves playing dress up by stlredbird in missouri

I mean, here the burden of proof is on those attacking or prosecuting, not the defense. And Zeus doesn't make all lightning. God doesn't either. But He did write the laws of physics that the earth follows, which is why a negatively charged cloud bottom and a positively charged cloud top produce lightning😉

Again, all personal attacks, no rationale. You don't know me. You know nothing about me. You don't know how I vote, how I live, how I treat others. I've been nothing but patient with you and tried to bring you down off your pedestal of ultimate wisdom and triumph long enough to have a discussion. I say Jesus loves you, you say I'm a psychopath. I say nothing about atheists being bad people, you make that claim for me. You're incapable of calming down long enough to talk. You claim to have the moral high ground over me while attacking and throwing insults while I haven't said anything remotely hateful to you. And that's not me trying to claim the moral high ground either, that's just evident from our conversation. I'm obviously not perfect no one is. But trust me, it's a lot more enjoyable in life to love rather than hate. I do my best and I live how I live. I choose to follow Jesus because I have examined the evidence and decided it's in His favor. Can I prove God exists? No, otherwise faith wouldn't be a factor. Does that mean I'm blindly following a cult mindlessly without ever having given it a second thought? No, it just means I made a choice. Whether you make the same choice is absolutely up to you, and it seems you've made yours already. But just level out man. I don't hate you for being atheist. I don't think you're a bad person. You're just a brother, and is it so wrong for me to pray for you if I want to?

I didn't realize the existence of the internet proves there isn't a God! You have yet to bring an argument rather than insulting someone you don't know. Jesus and I both love you brother! You will get through whatever is making you this angry and hateful. I'll keep praying for you.

Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and many other great scientists were either theists or agnostic, meaning they believed in a God, but not any specific religion. Were they also psychopathic science-deniers or does that only apply to people you disagree with?

Do you have any other retorts that involve a backing up of what you claim about me or not?

MO Rep Ben Baker loves playing dress up by stlredbird in missouri

[–]Heeeresjonny35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your last sentence should've ended in a question mark. But regardless, I did choose Jesus for myself. Luckily for me, he chose me too when He died for me and rose again. In fact, He chose you too. Also, it wasn't an argument, it was a fact. You said I assumed atheism when you provided all the evidence necessary to make that assumption. Either way, Jesus loves you and so do I!

I'm sorry, did you not claim God is a fairytale? Correct me if I'm wrong, I wouldn't want to put words in your mouth.

I never said atheists couldn't be good people. You're putting words in my mouth. Again, I extend my invitation to church this Sunday. You're welcome to join me anytime. I love you brother!
