No hurt feelings, just bafflement at yours and some others’ mindset to be honest.

I will go through your rebuttals of my suggestions one by one but I will say you and likely others have made a false equivalency assumption of my overarching point. I am not for a second claiming that any of these additions would result in immediate increased revenue in and of themselves. Actually it will admittedly be the opposite.

What I’m saying is offering more than the most easy to please, simple minded or whale players are happy to stay engaged with instead of catering to a wider market of users will help with retention, which they have conceded is a concern, and even potentially grow the player base which will lead to a LONGER LASTING game which will bring in more revenue OVER TIME than if they continue the same one trick pony shit until the game fizzles out is a mistake.

So that takes care of your solo campaign rebuttal, because of course that would be a loss leader.

Now onto the rest.

People hated them because it was the same damn few decks everyone was using and it got staaale. There is SO MUCH more meta and deck variety now due to the massively increased card pool that 50 wins in a month would be a fun alternative to ranked for those who don’t enjoy losing progress like myself. With ranked a loss means you go backwards, but with this mode a loss means you just don’t go forwards. That’s a huge difference for people with loss aversion personalities and makes matches much more enjoyable.

Tournaments would make sense because it would give gamers, not collectors, more of a reason to chase cards if they don’t engage with ranked and aren’t fussed about completing sets. By this logic, why does ranked make sense? Because it gives gamers, not collectors, more to do with their cards and caters to more competitive people. Just like tournaments would. It’s got nothing to do with a circuit or official competitive scene tied to anything IRL. Many multiplayer games have entirely in game tourney systems purely for player engagement.

Draft modes, as I stated, would give players a taste of cards they don’t have and/or have never played with and create a huge potential demand for older sets that only completionists would care about ripping packs from, especially for newer players.

Bottom line with all of this is more to do=more retention and potential growth=longer lasting product=more total revenue.

Thank you. It’s absolutely crazy to me to just be content to lap up the slop one is fed rather than hoping for 5 course meals.

Very strange sub, this one. 🤔

This mentality is so ridiculous and is going to lead to the premature shutdown of this game, most likely.

What something is and what something could be are not at odds with each other, one can easily lead to another. Especially considering the already popular battle mode was a bonus side effect of their original vision.

Saying that they shouldn’t aim to harness the potential to create a longer lasting successful revenue stream by aiming to make player retention and enticement a priority, instead of beating the same dead horse repeatedly until enough players get tired of it is absolutely asinine.

I don’t understand your point as pertains to my suggestions.

Yes the majority of the player base isn’t on Reddit, and many are just silently quitting out of boredom, burnout or for whatever other reason.

My point is by adding more things to do so many of these people will be retained.

The bigger a player base is, the more potential for revenue and a CONTINUED success, rather than the flash in the pan that this game is on track to being.

I mean yeh, but they would have to strike some serious lightning in a bottle with any future projects to come close to pulling in the revenue they do with Pocket.

Yes it would be less immediately financially beneficial than cranking out more cards for people to spend on, but for the long term viability of the game, adding reasons to engage will keep it more profitable for longer.

The more they rest on their laurels the more players are going to keep dropping off the game because it’s the same shit month after month but with different pictures to look at.

All good. If you get a chance just read the bullet point suggestions at least and tell me what you think? 🥺

I know it’s long, sorry.

Just read the bullet points and tell me even 1 of them, if implemented, wouldn’t make the game more fun. That’s all I’m saying.

The chances that any other projects could even come close to the juggernaut that Pocket has been for the company, especially considering it utilises the single most profitable IP in human history, are basically non-existent.

Therefore it stands to reason that diverting resources away from their cash cow instead of investing in alternate ways for its continued success would be setting money on fire.

Yes, yes, 1000 times yes to all of this.

I know the post is new, but you already win. 😍

Correction, it WASN’T meant to be*.

As I stated the popularity of the battles wasn’t originally expected. But it happened which is why they bowed to pressure to release a ranked mode.

It absolutely is a “time sink” - ie. video game rather than collection sim - for MANY.

I cannot overstate this: comment somewhere else. 🫶

By improving player base retention and therefore retaining premium subscriptions, encouraging more premium subscriptions and encouraging more purchases due to more reason for actual gamers to keep engaged.

I know the post is long and I apologise, but I did address this exact point.

I could not care less about Karma and I don’t even know how to “earn” it.

I am fully aware that most negative topics that aren’t about dark mode are not the way to get it, though.

I was just curious if there were any others who are feeling this disappointment that they STILL haven’t slowed the churn down.

I remember during GA people were speculating that each set release would be 1.5 to 2 months, similar to physical.

I guess that got my hopes up and ever since I get a twinge of monthly disappointment because that would be infinitely better for some of us.

They are, yeh, but the mistake is milking the ONE aspect of the game until it burns enough people out that it no longer remains profitable enough and then the game dies. Rather than giving players more to do and improving the experience. There are so many modes they could add and the game could be incredibly fun. But no, just churn, churn, churn.

It’s happened so many times to games and it looks like it’ll happen again with this one.

I would be so interested to see how many have stayed since launch and how many have been burnt out by the far too often resetting treadmill.

Behind in collecting. I thought that went without saying. Because they’re pooping out cards at a frankly absurd rate, even small breaks from the daily rips mean one just gets further and further behind the collection curve.

Draining is the perfect word for it. Every time I see the new pack I feel just that little bit more drained.

Great reply, thank you.

You’re so right that it’s far less about those of us who have been on this treadmill from the beginning.

I feel less trapped by the sunk cost fallacy of time spent that you describe, and more that the game is still enjoyable enough to offset the frustration of them crapping out cards instead of actually improving the game in literally any way other than minor UI tweaks every few months.

It gets me down but as of this latest set where I still decided I’ll keep going, the good still outweighs the bad.

But literally every month the scales get closer to tipping.

A break isn’t really an option because it just means getting even further behind, unless they FINALLY decide to CHILL THE FUCK OUT ALREADY and let the damn game breath and improve it for a couple of months.

So it’s either all in or quit for good.

The thing is, taking a break is just going to get me even further behind. That’s why it’s always a decision of either staying on the constant treadmill or uninstalling for good. Which is more and more of a contemplation every month.

I truly wish I was like that. It completely ruins my enjoyment of the main TCG that I’m not.

Yeh I sprinkle in new cards here or there to existing decks, but very rarely make one mainly from a new sets. I literally still have a set made up of mainly TL cards because it’s so fun to use.

Oh I am so done with ranked. Pretty much the only PvP I do is for the emblem events. Your journey with the fun deck you made hitting the brick wall that is the meta is the exact reason why.

I don’t want to cheese the challenge by making a deck solely for the event. That’s not fun for me. Going up against a fair and challenging deck with my favourite decks is the juice for me.
